WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Freda E. Steen, 100, died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness.
Services will be held at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. The Rev. Frank Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Steen was born Nov. 28, 1899, near Moscow, the daughter of Frank A. and Anna Marolf Duffe. She married Clifton McIntire on Sept. 28, 1921. He died in 1956, she then married Leslie ''Pat'' Steen on June 28, 1960, at the Little Brown in Nashua, he died in 1989.
She worked in the grocery stores in West Liberty, had been a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, worked at the nursing home in West Liberty and as a waitress at the Crystal Cafe in West Liberty.
She was a member of the Wilton Lutheran Church and attended the West Liberty United Methodist Church for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekka Lodge and the Floriculture Society.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Hazel Schmidt of Springfield, Mo.; a stepson, Charles Steen and his wife, Joann, of Bloomington, Ill.; step grandchildren, Marsha Skaggs and her husband, Doug, Steve Schmidt and his wife, Anne, Tom Steen and his wife, Michelle, Terry Steen and his wife, Julie; eight step great-grandchildren; a niece, Marsha Schulty and her husband, Keith, of Tipton; five nephews, Lawrence 'Shorty' Duffe of Wilton, Clarence Duffe and his wife, Judy, of Muscatine, Bernard Duffe and his wife, Maxine, of Tulsa, Okla., Kenny Duffe and his wife, Muriel, of Muscatine and Louis Cooling of Wilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Clifton and Leslie; four brothers, Harry, Walter, Edward, and Fred Duffe; two sisters, Clara Cooling and Ida Marolf; a niece; a nephew; and a great niece.
