Are you still looking into this? Did you ever find your relatives?

I'm looking into my family (also Stefan from Germany); and so I was wondering what part of Germany your family came from? Mine are from Westfalen...is there a connection?

George Stefan

I am looking for immigration and naturalization on George Stefan. According to the 1930 census he came from Hungary in 1912, married Rose Schomberger around 1918 and settled in Dayton, OH. It also says he had his 1st papers by 1930. He was born around 1893.
He had two children Alex born 1924 and Steve born 1933. HIs children are unaware of him having a middle name and claim he came to the states by himself, and did not have to go through Ellis Island.
I can not locate him on the 1920 cencus and I have gone to the county court house and they do not have record of his naturalization. They say he may not have finished the process.

Joe Stefan (OHIO)

found the following entries in my husbands

grandmother's address book, and hoping to find the

connection into the family:

Her name is Elizabeth Molnar, and she married Andrew

(Andras) Stefan. They were both born in Hungary, and

married in Bridgeport, CT (USA) in 1913.

Andras was born in Jakfalva Hungary, parents were

Mihaly and Julianna (Brerviak?) Stefan. I cannot find any

info on the parents, especially Julianna.

Andras (b@ July 9, 1891) had several brothers and one

sister. Names I've been told are: Istvan, Jozsef (b@1887),

Mihaly (b@1885), and Teri. Andras worked in the coal mines and traveled around alot, if I recall correctly his brothers did as well.

The entries found in address book are:
Mr. Tony Stefan
K.H.D. 1 Box 62
Leechburg, PA

Anthony Stefan
108 Floral Ave
Leechburg, PA

A. Stefan
319 W. Berks Street
Philadelphia, PA

There is another entry for:
Joe Stefan
Tontoganog, Ohio

and a Jessy Stefan
10 ave. 239
Mountvernon (No State, possibly NY)

If anyone has any of these Stefan's in their family trees

or can find additional info on them, it would be nice to

figure out how they fit into the family/relationship to

my Stefan family. I don't know the entry dates, it is just

a small notebook with names and addresses added at

random.

I've asked Elizabeth about them, but she does not

remember who any of them are (said she does not

know them), which means they would have been

relatives of her husband Andras, who died in 1969 in

CT. Elizabeth is 111 years old, and has a great detailed

memory. If I can find more info out on these

individuals, they may trigger her memory!

Thanks to all!

Hello - I recently found a Baby's Health Book in an antique store that belonged to Ernest Louis STefan, born August 11, 1923 in Portland, Oregon. Parents are listed as Amelie Lechelt Stefan and August Ernest Stefan. Maternal grandparents are Henrietta and Ludwic Lechelt. Paternal grandparents are Anna and Ernest Stefan. I am not related or researching this family, but would like to see this little book returned to the Stefan/Lechelt Family. I'd be happy to scan and send upon request. Sincerely, Sue

Hi Nancy ~

This is my husbands family, so I will need to check on exactly where they were from and if any family members were in that village.

From the info I have, the Stefan side was from Jokfolva, Hungary (that was listed on Andras Stefan's Keresztlevel from Hungary (Birth Certificate). Andras was born July 09, 1891.

The Molnar side of the family was from Szabolesveresmart, Hungary (I do not know how to use my keyboard to add the accent marks).
Birth Certificate (Kivonai) all written in Hungarian (Magyar):
a szabolesveresmart felormatus ezyhaz szulottek es megkereszteltek VII szamu anyakunyvenek 23, lapjarol, as 1895 evbol (this paper is signed in 1933, so it may have been requested/reprinted for naturalization papers issued in 1938 in US) Father: Molnor, Jozef; Mother: Taiczi, Paulina (other paperwork I've seen says Polly Tarczy) ~ I have already been informed that I did not "copy" this correctly, the handwriting is difficult to copy when you do not know comprehend the language.

I know there is a "Molnar cousin" in Budapest now. She is the daughter of one of Elizabeth's brothers. Her name is Anna Molnar. I have not contacted her yet, although I want to, for she may be able to help me with the other family members and the family in Hungary that did not come to the USA, as well as help with the info on Elizabeth's parents.

I would like to try and see if we are researching the same Molnar and Stefan Families. I understand these are very common names in Hungary, which makes it much more difficult.

Look forward to hearing back from you or anyone else that may have info on these families!
Hi all you Stefan Family researchers!

I have been trying to trace my husband's Stefan family, and thought i would share with you all that we will be celebrating Elizabeth Molnar Stefan's 110th birthday next week.

Below is what i know, and what i am researching, if you have any information that could help me, please advise. Thanks!

I am seeking info on a Mihaly Stefan, who married Julianna Brerviak. I know absolutely nothing about them other than their names and they were living in Hungary!

They had a son, Andras Stefan, born July 9, 1891 in Jokfolva, Hungary. (there may have been other children, but this is the only info i have) He died in Bridgeport, CT (USA) in August 1969.
Andras Stefan married Erzsebt Molnar.
Erzsebt Molnar was born in 1895 in Veresmart, Hungary, and came to the US in 1913. (She is celebrating her 110th birthday this week)

Her parents were Jozsof Molnar and Polly Tarzcy or Paulina Taiczi (their marriage took place in Szabolcsveresmart, Hungary).

Polly Tarzcy was the daughter of Joseph Tarzcy & ??, and was born in Zemplenegard, Hungary.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate any hints on where to begin looking for info on this info. Thanks for your help!
She lived in the Dysart Sask. area...for sure in 1952. Her father was Peter Scherle he came over also along with Theresa Scherle which would be a sister to maria and Eva Olifkey (nee Scherle) (another sister) and her family, a brother Frank Scherle and possibley another sister named Regina. Peter and Eva and her family also settled in the Dysart area. I'm sure Maria was married when she came over. ..........

Anna Stefan

Hi Colleen,

There may be a connection! But I don't think the name was changed.

The story as I understand it, was my grandmother, Anna Stefan was born somewhere in Hungary on Aug. 20, 1892. Her mother died when she was a young girl and her father remarried. Her stepmother was very mean to her (something like Cinderella I guess). She was sent the live in New York with some relatives (cousins?) and send home money. She work at cleaning people's homes.

I think she may have been about 15 years old when she came to New York, which would put it around 1907, a little earlier then the 1914 you mentioned. She was in Chicago by the early 1920's and got married there. Her married name was Mehr. Does this name appear in your g-gfather's journal?

I know nothing about her brothers and sisters or if she had any. I do know she had a male cousin, with the same last name, living in the chicago area. Unfortunately, I do not remember his first name, but I will find out.

Thanks,

Frank
suerth@surfnetcorp.com

Stefan Family

Hi, Frank. My g-grandparents came from Hungary in 1914 settled in NY. In my g-gfather's journal he lists many surnames, some family, others I don't know who they are,but I'm sure they are Hungarians since ethnic groups tend to stick together when they are in a foreign land. In his journal he mentions a Stefan family and the names he lists are Tony b.8/16/1870 d.6/5/1956, Anthony b.4/3/1903, d.3/23/64, Mary b.1/20/1906 d.?, Arnold b.3/10/01? d.1/26/60, Helen b.8/1/1909 d.? As I said, I don't know who they are but they must be relative I would like to know. By the way, I'm sure this name was changed, as it is not at all similar to other Hungarian names. Please let me know if any of this means anything to you, or if there is even a remote possibility that any info you have might be of use to me. Thanks.

Hi all Stefan researchers!
I am researching my husbands family line, and they haven't been much help in the research department!
This is what i have gathered so far and need your help with:

I am seeking info on a Mihaly Stefan, who married Julianna Brerviak. I know absolutely nothing about them other than their names and they were in Hungary!

Her parents were Jozsof Molnar and Polly Tarzcy (their marriage took place in Szabolcsveresmart, Hungary).
Polly Tarzcy was the daughter of Joseph Tarzcy & ??, and was born in Zemplenegard, Hungary.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate any hints on where to begin looking for info on this info. Thanks for your help! Please write subject name in emails to me -- if i cannot identify mail by the subject, it is deleted unread -- too much spam and virus mail for me to take any chances!
~qntara@aol.com

She was the daughter
