A deed was recorded on September 13, 1782 listing and signed by Michael Steffey, JR., an elder at the church for 100 acres of unclaimed land. This land was used to build a church. St. Paul's Lutheran Church is located west of the New River near Rural Retreat, VA on State Route #699. The deed can be found in Christiansburg, VA at the Montgomery County Courthouse. (I do have copies of his records including his marriage lic. I also have copies of personal property tax paid in Wythe and Montgomery (Old Wythe County). Most of the Steffeys lived on Reed Creek just outside Rural Retreat. John Westley Steffey had a son William "Sisco" Steffey, (my great grandfather) who had a son Leonard Monroe Steffey (my grandfather) who had 17 children, one of which was my mother Bonnie Ruth Steffey Adkins.
I hope this information is helpful, I have a lot more on different branches of the family, alone with the family crest. Copies of the church records and actual photos of some of the graves and tomestones. The family down to me left Wythe County traveled onto Wise County Virginia and then into the Pikeville Kentucky area.
I do hope that this information is helpful. Thank you
