The link worked for me but you have to be a member of ancestry.com so maybe that is the issue. Anyway it is from a OneWorldTree but the contact for this is listed as "unknown" Anyway what the tree had listing is below:

1 Charles STEINBARGER b: WFT Est. 1851-1880 d: WFT Est. 1905-1965
+ Cora SANDERS b: WFT Est. 1860-1883 d: WFT Est. 1905-1971
2 Ralph G. STEINBARGER b: 26 MAR 1902 Bartholomew, Indiana, d: 3 MAR 1975
+ Twanette WEDDLE b: 19 OCT 1903 d: OCT 1971
Marriage Ending Status: Divorce
3 Living STEINBARGER
3 Living STEINBARGER
3 Living STEINBARGER
3 Living STEINBARGER
3 Living STEINBARGER
+ Living SWEENEY
3 Living STEINBARGER
3 Living STEINBARGER

The names and dates I have for the children were gather by census data, WWI reg, SSDI but for the Sweeney side there is only the data from the above tree. But based on your inputs I'm going to say you should know and probably someone just either accidentally typed in two entries (both are listed as female which also is wrong based on your data). The only other option is that these could have been miscarriages.

If you can send me the obit to my email: jons@cadence.com and if willing any details on your branch that I don't have (names, dates, locations) that would be excellent.

If you want more info on the Sanders side I have a lot of it all the way back to James Sanders 1876. For this branch I don't have as much but hoping that someday Jennifer Sanders checks back in and can share what she has as I believe her husband is a decedent of one of Cora's brothers.

Thanks again,

Jon

Johh Amza's brother Charles Wesley married Cora May Sanders who was the daughter of John P Sanders (Adair, KY) and Margaret Melissa Miller (IN).

Charles was born 9/29/1870 in Bartholomew, IN
Cora May was born 8/1873 in Bartholomew, IN
they were married 2/11/1897

They had four children:
Clyde Elbert
b.10/28/1897 Bartholomew, IN d. 1954
Child no name found
b. 11/4/1898 Bartholomew, IN d. bef 1900
Ralph Gordon
b. 3/26/1901 Bartholomew, IN d. 3/3/1975
Mary Williams
b 1904

Clyde married Mayme Welch 7/29/1920 and they had one son
Clyde b. 11/6/1920 (assuming she died as he remarried, no info on Clyde also other than birth record)
Clyde married again on 10/24/1925 to Lelia Augusta DONAHUE and divorced by 1929 when she remarried.
* Clyde was in jail as apparently he was the safecracker for John Dillinger when marriage fell apart.

Ralph G was married twice I believe, to Twannetta Weddle where there looks to be five children: William G (b. 3/25/1926), Joan and Josephine (twins b. 1928) and two more children. The other wife was Vivian Sweeney of whom two children was born.

I'm tracking the Sanders decedents as Cora May's g-grandfather is James Sanders from Adair KY and the above is what I have on her family so far.

-Jon Sanders

Actually, John and Nellie had 4 children they had two Donalds! Anyway, I do believe you have found my Saul Steinbarger. Any more information you have would be helpful, as I do not have any records on Saul or his siblings. I am planning on going to Bartholomew Co. this weekend. But if you could point me in the right direction (I am new to this) I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I have the following information in my family accounts. All my references to Stein. are from family lineage references to Steinberger. I am very interested in finding out more about the family variants of Steinbarger & obviously Steenbarger and how and where they came about if anyone can help on that.

John Amza Stein. had 3 children (Raymond, Thelma (married Dallas Bott) & Donald F.). John Amza Stein was the son of J. Sol Stein. & Eda J. Smith. My documents have J.Sol Stein. born 1842 and eventually had 6 children however. He was the son of John Milton Stein. who was the son of Henry Stein. who was the son of John Stonebarger, later Steinberger (who was 1st married to Elizabeth Neuman/Norman; then married 2nd to Elizabeth Friermoot/Freymoot. John Stein. was a son of Friedrick & Mary Stonebarger, the founder of my direct line. Friedrick the father and sons John and Lewis Stonebarger served during Rev. War. They are listed in the Revolutionary War rolls Vol.1, page 603 Shenandoah Valley, Va. Militia- under command of Capt & Major Michael Reader.

I also found a reference to a Solomon Steinberger born 9/14/1819 which would be about the right timeframe, he married 2/14/1846 to Isyphene Owens. They had 9 children in my records. . He was the son of Reuben Stein. who was the son of John Stein. who was the same son of Friedrick & Mary Stonebarger above.

I have some 50+, single spaced, typed pages on my ancestral lines of Stonebarger, Steinberger, Steenbarger etc. researched and written by relatives of mine in the Indiana & Ohio region. I've seen a reference by Mr. Tim Pence who apparently also has a similar source. Some of his early references on the family history are the very similar to what I have.

Please email me if additional info is desired.

I was really hoping to find more. I found a Sol Steinbarger b. in 1820.

The closest thing I found in Bartholomew Co. was in the 1870 census:
Steinbarger, Saml (or Saul) age 54, merchant, value of real estate $12,300, personal estate $6000
Mary J. 53
Rebecca 26
Mary J. 21
Samuel F. 16 (probably b. abt. 1853-1854)
Dyson, Martha, age 38
Huber, Alfred, age 24, Clerk in Store

Perhaps this Samuel F. b. 1854, was the father of John Amza Steinbarger b. 1880.

I looked and looked and could not find this family in 1880 census index. I could not find any Sol or Samuel in the 1900 census. I looked at every Steinbarger and Steinberger family in Bartholomew Co. 1900 census on genealogy.com and did not find John Amza Steinberger or any John for that matter who fits the profile. I think what it would come down to is for me to go through the census page by page and see if something is missing from the indexes. I usually have better luck than this.

I will send you an e-mail.

Hopefully you saw my second message, and I do think we are talking of the same Amza Steinbarger.

I don't know anything about his parents but could probably find some things on the census for you if you want. I see that there is quite a large Steinbarger family there in Bartholomew Co. I am quite curious about Jane Smith. William B. Smith married Mary Maria Guffey, daughter of Joshua Guffey and widow Martha Coles Bishop who married Joshua Guffey. Although Smith is an exceedingly common name, I still wonder if she is related to these same Smiths of Bartholomew Co. Martha Coles Bishop Guffey was Nellie Steinbarger's aunt.

I have photos of the William Smith family, and of Joshua Guffey and Martha Coles that a descendant of the William Smith family gave me. And I also have a photo of Nellie A. Coles Steinbarger's parents, Henry Coles and Julia Ann Davis. I am wondering where I got the "Alberta" from for her middle name as I see I did not cite the source for the middle name. I also have a photo of Henry Coles's son Charles Lewis Coles and his wife Mary Mryrthle Calvin. The photos of Henry and Julia, and Charles and Mary, came from the wife of a descendant of Charles.

Oh no, we have the same Amza. The names of the children you gave me corresponded with the names Amza's grandchild gave me. He lived in Bartholomew Co. Indiana near Edinburgh, which is in Johnson Co. on the county line. Do you have any information on his sisters or brother? I will check the obituaries for any info on him or Nellie. Do you know anything on his father, Saul (Samuel) or Jane Smith? His grandson told me interesting stories on him. Contact me on my e-mail address, and I can fill you in.

This is an interesting story about the wives. I can only go by the census and the Bartholomew Co. Birth records. The February 7, 1906 marriage date does fit in nicely with the subsequent births. However, I haven't been able to find the marriage records yet. Anyway, maybe there were two "Amza" Steinbargers? All I know is that my Nellie married a John Amza Steinbarger. Here is what I have:

NELLIE ALBERTA7 COLES (HENRY6, THOMAS5, SOLOMON4, SOLOMON3, DANIEL2, UNKNOWN1)1 was born November 1887. She married JOHN AMZA STEINBARGER1.

More About NELLIE ALBERTA COLES:

Census: 1900, Living with the Sheppard Scofield family in Bartholomew Co. Indiana

Children of NELLIE COLES and JOHN STEINBARGER are:

i. RAYMOND8 STEINBARGER.

ii. DONALD STEINBARGER, b.
I have spoken with his grandson, Michael, who is the son of Donald. Anza was born in Columbus, IN, sometime in 1880. Sister Anna was born in 1872, Della in 1866, no information on Nora. Brother Charles was born in 1870. They are the children of Saul (whose name also appears as Samuel) Steinbarger and Jane Smith. The families are based in Johnson and Bartholomew co. in Indiana. I was informed that his first wife was named Anna. I show a marriage on Feb. 17, 1906. Do you have record of when the children were born? I was told that Anna was the mother of the children and was the first wife. I was also told that some wives ran from him and some died. He was a farmer in northern Bartholomew Co. Any information regarding later wives or information on brother or sister would be helpful.

Thanks. Can you tell me what his birthdate and birth location was and when he died and where buried? Do you have the names of his parents? Also, do you happen to have any of the other wives' names? Thanks again for all of your help.
