JOHN STEINER
John D. "Jack" STEINER, 70, a longtime general contractor of Prairie du
Chien, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in la Crosse following a stroke.
Jack was born January 14, 1936 in Prairie du Chien to Arthur and Kathryn (Rosenbaum) STEINER. He graduated from high school in Prairie du Chien in 1955 and served in the Army for three years as a medic in Germany.
He returned to Prairie du Chien and worked for STEINER Brothers Construction.
He married Mary Elizabeth Balk on February 7, 1959 at St. Gabriel's.
He started his own company Jack's Construction and was joined by his son Tom in 1993, which later became STEINER Associates.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and continued to work until his death.
He is survived by his wife Mary; six children, John (Kathy) STEINER of Rush, N.Y., Susan (Tim) Kronebusch of La Crosse, Jim (Kim) STEINER of Farmington, Minn., Tom (Karen) STEINER of Prairie du Chien, Jerry (Wendy) STEINER of Durham, N.C., Sandy (Brad) Johnson of La Crosse; 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Becky, John, Emily, Jenni, Jasmine, Nicole, Rachel, Cody, Cierra, Andrew, Lauren; one great-grandson Ashtin; five siblings, Ted STEINER of Tucson, Ariz., Richard (Jeanette) STEINER and Mary Kay (Jim) Hannah both of Prairie du Chien, Davie (Linda) STEINER of Pleasant Prairie, and Michael (Donna) STEINER of Prairie du Chien.
A Mass of Christian burial was Saturday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard in Prairie du Chien. The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Prairie Catholic Schools.
