Thank you for your message. I did order birth records for the Reformed Lutheran Church in Mulheim from 1808 to about 1824 and found many Heiden and von Heyden (and many other spellings) families but no Wilhelm for 1816. I think that Mulheim is the right area I just can't find the right first names. Let me know if you come across anything else.

I have the flu right now, so hope this makes since. Thanks again for your help.

Judie

Hi Judie,

Well, I didn't find exactly what you need but you may be on to something. I looked at the microfilm of marriages and did not find any listings for HURMIERER/HURMIER or KOELLING. But there were several listings of HEIDEN/HEYDEN in the index. It would probably be to your advantage to order some microfilms of church records for Mulheim an der Ruhr for the dates of your ancestors. I bet you will find them there. If so, I have the older films and can look up more names/dates for you then.
Good luck!
Peggy

Hi Judie,

I was reviewing your info in preparation for my trip to the FHC tomorrow but I don't think I'll be able to find what you need. The date ranges for the films I have are too early for your listed ancestors. I still will look but it's unlikely that Wilhelm and Anna Maria were married before 1839. I may pick up her previous marriage or at least see if there are von Heidens living in Mulheim an der Ruhr. I'll let you know what I find.

Peggy

Hi Judie,

You are correct -- I added an extra 1. These are Reform Church Records. Microfilm # 1336814: includes a marriage index 1718-1839; marriages from 1610-1839; a burial index 1773-1806; & burials 1674-1720. The prior film has baptisms but they are all too early and the last film has burials -- again too early for you, yet. I'll see what I find and will get back to you.

Peggy

HI:

That was a fast answer. Yes, please check them out for anything that looks promising. Did you make a typo error however. The last one has an extra 1 in it. I haven't looked at family research to see what records those are. What parish or church denomination are they?? Catholic or Protestant??? Civil registration, births and marriages etc??? What specific dates??

Judie

Thanks for your reply. I have the following microfilms from Mulheim an der Ruhr -- #1336813, #1336814, #13316815. The only film that may help you in your time frame is the middle one since it contains marriages up till 1839. The other ones are too early. My day at the Family History Center is Thursday afternoons so let me know if you'd like for me to check it out.

Peggy

HI:

You are an answer to a prayer. I am researching Wilhelm Von Heiden (various spellings) who was from Dusseldorf and born in 1816. The last documentation I have from the family is after they immigrated to America. According to his son's will, his son Henrich was born Feb. 22, 1849 also in Germany. The signature on the will looks like von Heden. He died Oct. 18, 1908 in Wisconsin, USA. His mother was Anna Marie Hurmierer (maiden name). She was born Oct. 15, 1817, also in the Dusseldorf area of Germany. She immigrated with Henrich in 1854. Anna Marie was married before marrying Wilhelm von Heiden to a Koelling (German spelling unknown) I don't have a birth date for this marriage or a date for when she married Wilhelm. So I don't know what last name Hinrich's birth would be under. Wilhelm von Heiden immigrated before his son and wife, probably around 1849 or 1850.

I do know they were Lutheran so I have Taufen for 1807-1818 Film #490072 presently. I have looked at it twice and found lots of von Heiden's and von der Heiden's This microfilm is for the parish records for the Reformed Church in Mulhei (Ruhr) Rheinland, Germany, including many of the small nearby towns. Their are lots of Wilhelm von Heidens, von der Heidens, ober Heidens etc. from this area. But none that are specifically 1816. What film number do you have??? Is it Dusseldorf Civil Records or what???

I have looked at film number 0489888 for Taufen 1810-1861 for the Protestant Church. I found nothing of much interest on that one. I also looked at film 999908 Civil registration of births, for 1810-1852 for Dusseldorf, Rheinland, Germany. I found nothing of interest on it either.

But I was mostly looking for Wilhelm born in 1816. If you see anything for any of the three people I am looking for, please let me know.

Wilhelm Von Heiden born 1816
Anna Maria Hurmier, (Koelling), Von Heiden born Oct.15, 1817
Henrich Von Heiden, Koelling, Hurmier born Feb. 22, 1849

Remember the spellings are unknown because by the time they got to America, spellings could have changed drastically.

Let me know if you think you can help. I have been looking for years and years with little luck.

I have some microfilm on indefinite loan at our local LDS library for Mulheim that goes back to the early 1700s to mid-1800s. I would be happy to look up records for you if you have names and approximate dates.

Peggy

John,

My name is Steven Joseph and I am a distant relative of yours through Cecilia Cogan and I have been doing my complete family genealogy, including your line. Cecelia or 'Cellie' Cogan died on March 19, 1921, as per the second marriage record of Charles F. Steinkamp to Lauretta M. Schu (nee Zorn).

Her first husband, Anthony J. Schu, died on March 25, 1922.

Charles and Lauretta were married on July 26, 1925 here in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

I have the marriage date in 1900 for Charles and Cellie too, but not readily remembered in my mind at the moment.

I think the date was May 2, 1900, shortly before Viola Steinkamp Decker was born in June of that year, as per the 1900 census record. If you would like, I can get you a copy of the marriage records from downtown Pittsburgh at the City-County Building.

Let me know if we can help one another.

Steven

Gertrude, and most of her ancestors, lived in Mulheim an der Ruhr. She married Friedrich Kleinholz and it was their daughter who immigrated to the U.S. If we can find a connection, I do have Kleinholz info back to the 1700's. I've been told that this family was quite prominent in Mulheim an der Ruhr. Let me know how I can help!
Peggy

Your ancestor is not in my database but he could be a nephew/cousin of our ancestor. I will be going to our local Family History Center where I have the church records from Mulheim an der Ruhr. Since you gave me birth and date years, I will search these records and will let you know if I find anything on Fredrick. The timeframe is correct, so we might get lucky.

Sharon Conroy:
Well, finally. I've been waiting with baited breath for your responce to my several messages. There is obviously a connection here. I think my Grandfather George is one of the five "Steinkamp children" you mention. My wife recalls my father saying that George was from Oldensburg. As I mentioned I checked the city directory of Norwalk and found several Steinkamps. I've just returned from vacation and must get back to work at the nursery here in New Scotland, New York(just outside of Albany).
I'm very excited by your message though. It may be that Johann went by August or that August was his son. There is some confusion. Also, I am not sure all family members were listed in the City Directory. Many of the steinkamps may have move to Harttford, as my Grandfatherdid, probably for greater opportunity. I will check here further. I would love to return to the Norwalk Library. There are other good souces in Ct. and maybe I'll get to them

Carolus / Carl STEINKAMP - Pittsburgh, PA

Karl/Carl Steinkamp/f Lived in Pittsburgh Pa in the 1870's. He was listed as Charles in the PA 1880 census. He was listed as Carolus Steinkamp (died 1884) in the death records from St Michaels in Pittsburgh. He married a Maria Massmann (Her second marraige and his second marraige)and they had several children who lived in the Mt. Oliver, Mt. Washington, and Allentown area of Pittsburgh.

Carl married his first wife Sophie Massmann in Bielefield Germany in 1862. They had one child. I have a lot of information on this branch of the steinkamp family but am interested in getting more information on the other branches of the family such as the Heberts, Mary's, and Massmanns.

James and Anna(Hannah) Herbert are listed in the 1880 census along with their children-John, Elizabeth, Kate, and Nellie.

A Frank and Mary Steinkamp are also in the 1880 Census along with their children Lena, Esse and Emma.

I have located a Phillip Steinkamp/Steincampf and Anna Wentzel in the 1910 PA census.

A Bernard and Catherine Mari/Mary sre listed as the parents of the Maria Mari Massman who married Karl Steinkamp st St Michael Monastary in 1871. Believe they stood for Maria but were not parents.

All these names are tied togehter and I would be glad to receive and also share any information on the steinkamp and other names mentioned.

Steinkamp Family in Quincy, IL -- Henry STEINKAMP

Hi Ingrid
I have a Stienkamp family in Quincy,IL also. His name is Henery Steinkamp.
He and his wife Mary Catherine Ricker were both from Germany but married in Quincy
in 1849. They had 3 children Henry, Anna and Theresa. Henry died at age 20. The
girls married a father and son named Motzenbecker. Anna, my greatgrandmother
married the father Anton and Theresa married the son Charles. The naturalization
papers in the Sdams co court house say Henry denounced the king of Hannover Germany.
Could your family be from Hannover?
I,ve done a lot of research in Quincy and there was another Steinkamp family down the
block on Kentucky from my family. They could verywell be related. Henry was a brick
maker and own the houses at 817 and 819 Kentucky. By the way my Anna was born in Quincy
in 1855. Hope we can make a connection.

Thank you Pat Hogan

His wife's last name was Deering, I don't know anything about her. Their son Leslie is my grandfather. He was born in 1909 and died in 1975. He was married to Myrtle Gay. They had 4 living children: Otto, Robert, Shirley and Donald (my father). I have come to a brick wall and nobody seems to know this family. If there is anybody with any information at all, I would greatly appreciate it. I need some help. Thanks

Re: Henry Steinkamp in Quincy, IL

Hi Pat,
Thank you for replying to my query.
Since I last posted, I have gotten some more information on Herman and Anna Wehling STEINKAMP.
According to Herman's tombstone, he was born 10 Jan 1839 and died 22 Sep 1906.

The following information was sent to me:
"Herman STEINKAMP, schneider, age 30 years, father koetter at Stevede ksp Coesfeld, parents dead - married Anna Margaret WEHLING, age 26 years, father John Henry WEHLING, a leibzuecther at Gross Reken, on 18 Feb 1868 at St. Lamberti Church in Coesfeld. Sponsors, Henry Buese & Henry Lutke-Bomert."

Evidentally, not long after they were married they emigrated to the United States, because the 1870 Quincy, IL city directory shows Herman Steinkamp, tailor, residence 920 Oak.

The family moved to Moberly, Randolph Co., MO in 1876. They lived there the rest of their lives, and are buried in St. Mary Cemetery in Moberly.

According to Herman STEINKAMP's obituary, he still had 2 brothers, Bernard and Henry, living in Quincy at that time. "Bernard was at his bedside when the end came, but Henry is ill and unable to come, but his wife cme in his stead." The names of the parent or any deceased siblings were not given.

That's all I know at this time. That doesn't really help either of us make a connection yet, but I am hoping to find out some more before too long, and I will let you know when I do.
Again, thanks for answering.
Ingrid
He was born in Germany in 1839. My great-grandmother's name was Anna, born in Germany in 1843. I don't know when they came to this county, but Anna was their oldest child. Our family records show her as being born in Quincy, IL in 1871, but the Randolph County, Mo census of 1900 list her as being born in Germany. In any case, their second child, William, was born in Quincy in 1875, and the family moved to Moberly, Mo in 1876.
Herman was a tailor by trade, having learned the profession in Germany.

Anna was my grandmother. Her father's name was Herman. I don't know any more than that, but I would like to find out. Her family moved to Moberly, MO in 1876. She married Anthony G. Thieman. Anna had 2 brothers, Will and Herman and 3 sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, and Louise. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Ingrid

I am looking for any information relating to a Charlotte Steinkamp (or Steincamp) who was an 20 year old woman (b. 2/24/1860 in Huelhorst, Westphalia) working as a servant in 1880 for a family in York, PA. She is my grandmother. She emmigrated to the US in 1873. I have no information on how or who with. I am currently searching through passenger lists and church records from PA but have found nothing of her ancestry. I was hoping she may show up in records from Germany.

George Kottmeier

Well, here is what I found at ancestry.com but I'm not sure if it is the same person since you posted no dates and no date ranges with the names.

I only found some info for Roger, none of the other names you listed.

If it is the same person, you might try requesting the death certificate for Roger. If it lists the cemetery where he is buried, maybe the cemetery will have other records. (i.e. maybe some of his family is buried with him.) You might also try locating a copy of his obit.

========================================
U.S. Federal Census:

1930 Illinois
Adams County
Riverside Township
District 61

Roll: T626_405
Page: 7A
ED: 61
Image: 0451
========================================
Joseph W STEINKAMP
Head of Household
Age 38
(Age at 1st marriage: 28)

Laura C.
