Mary Steinmetz was born 18 Aug 1842 in Germany and 8 Sep 1906 in Houstonia, MO. She is buried in Longwood Cemetery, Pettis County, Missouri. She was married to Jacob Epple who was born in Germany also. They were married in Fayette, MO and lived in Saline County, MO before settling in Longwood, Pettis County, Missouri. My grandmother was Stella Bell Epple Tevis and before her marriage she spent time in Glasgow with members of the Steinmetz family. One of the cousins was Mary Steinmetz Meyer/Meyers and she had a daughter married to a Dr. Kitchen and they had 2 sons one was a Dr. Also near Glasgow at one time was a village named Steinmetz but all that remained when we were there was a schoolhouse, abandoned. There are still some Steinmetz around Marshall, MO area. I would appreciate any information you have on the Steinmetz family.

I have some from the missouri area. John Steinmetz b.24 nov 1828 knox county ohio(later changed to Stimatze) is buried in McFall missouri. He married 28 nov 1852 Elizabeth Mary Chanell b.20 oct 1829 newkirk, licking county, ohio. She is also buried in McFall. I am having problems find ancesters because of the name change. If you have any info that would help i would appreciate it. John would be my gggg grandfather.

Hi Tim,
My Steinmetz came over later than yours from Germany, about 1881, and settled in the Newark, NJ area. But if you're looking for possible origins over in Germany I can tell you that my Steinmetz family came from Hesse and specifically from the town and area of Eschwege-an-der-Werra. They were in Eschwege at least as far back as 1832.

Maybe your hired soldier Steinmetzes were Hessians as well.

My name is Tim Steinmetz. My family is mainley from the southeast MO area coming to the area early last century. Our family origins in the U.S. came from the revolutionary war when they turned on the British who brought them from Germany to fight as hired soldiers. They sided with the colonists.

Curious about all these Steinmetz from Alsace...I'm assuming they were of German descent. Does anyone know where these families migrated from prior to settling in Alsace? (perhaps at the urging of the German government after Germany acquired the territory)

My German Steinmetzes all came from the Hesse area near Eschwege and Waldkappel.

I had a GG Uncle John Steinmetz who lived in Maryland according to his sisters obituary. I have found nothing about him to date except that he may have went to Valdez, Alaska with his brother Peter in 1889. His brother sold his claim in 1900. I don't know what happened to either of them. I found a John Steinmetz on a census who was a paper hanger in Baltimore, Maryland. That John Steinmetz is not related to me......webhillwalkers@charter.net

Jeremiah Steinmetz married (1) Harriet Cherrington and (2) Rebecca bef 1870. His children were with Harriet.

I am not quite done researching this family branch and can use some help.

The Steinmetz I have records on came from Alsace, France - born in 1794 and 1814. Jacob Steinmetz married to Catherine Bliss. Both died in France. Children ended up in Ohio (Jacob and Jaen George). Let me know if you still have interest in my records.

My Steinmetz search is for Nicholas. He was born
1846 and shows Germany. I am trying to find out who his parents were. He married in 1875 in NY to Josephine Verchot. They moved to N.J. and he is on the 1880 census as a baker. On the 1900 census,
I find an Alfonsis (Alphonse? ) Stienmetz, born 1877,
as a boarder at the Stiehler home on Dubois St. in Union City, N.J. He is a relative, I'm sure. Thanks for any info you have.

Anita Steinmetz, daughter of Waldeck, Germany immigrants William Rudolf Steinmetz and Cornelia Louise Steinmetz, was born in 1875. Her father William was a surgeon in the U.S. Army who served the Union in the Civil War and died in 1908 in Baltimore. Her mother died in 1914, probably also in Baltimore. Her parents were cousins.

Anita was the only child of William and Cornelia. She was married at least twice, first to dentist Willie J. McMinn and then to Verne W. Black, her husband at the time of her father's death. Any information on Anita following her father's death in 1908 would be much appreciated.

I'm not aware of a Nicholas Steinmetz in my lines (doesn't mean he's not related, though!) I noticed the RootsWeb World Connect project has a Nicholas Steinmetz born in Alsace Lorraine married to Josephine Verchot listed (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...) and includes a daughter Clementine born in Hoboken, NJ in 1877. Interestingly, the FamilySearch.org site lists her as "Crematin" Steinmetz (Probably a bad transcription error from the Census!).

My link from Germany to the USA is Wilhelm Steinmetz (b. 26 Sept 1863 in Eschwege [an der Werra], Hessen, GER; d. 18 Jul 1958 Cranford, NJ). He emigrated in 1881 to NJ and in 1930 lived in Elizabeth, Union Cty, NJ. Wilhelm's father was Martin Steinmetz b. abt. 1833-1843 somewhere in the state of Hessen, GER though not necessarily Eschwege.

It's entirely possible the Nicholas is related to these people but I'm not sure I can tell how at this point. Never having been to Germany to research it first person, I'm somewhat limited.

In the name of God Amen I Charles Steinmetz of Cocallico Township in the County of Lancaster being old but at present of good health Mind memory and understanding (blessed be god for the same) and I considering the uncertainty of this transitory life make this my last will and testament in Manner following Imprimis I recomend my soul into the hands of god who gave it and my Body to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian Like Manner and as to such worldly Estate with which it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same as follows first I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret all my household and kitchen furniture and my two cows and all other articles of my personal Estate.
Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret such of my Real Estate as follows she shal have the New dwelling house were [sic] we at present Live and part of the garden for her widow seat and yearly and every year eighteen bushels of good wheat fifteen bushels of Indian corn five bushels of potatoes twenty pound of [Husked?] flax six pound of wool two hundred pound of good pork one hundred and fifty pound of good beef Vinigar and apples out of the orchard as much as she may want and two cows kept in fodder and pasture and firewood cut and split fit for use brought to her House as much as she may want and the Interest of the sum of sixteen hundred dollars at the rate of five per cent per anum and if in case by age and infirmities it will be Necessary she shall have a right to receive and recover the principal sum or such part thereof as she may want for her support all which I have given her out of my Real Estate in Lieu of her dower during her Natural life to be allowed rendered and delivered to her out of and on the plantation hereafter given to my son David.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son David Steinmetz all that tract of Land whereon I now Live in Cocallico Township adjoining Land of Daniel Merckle John Fry and others containing about one hundred acres be it more or Less and also a tract of Mountain Land in Cocallico Township adjoining Land of John Fry Samuel Keller and others containing about thirty one acres be it more or Less. To hold the said two tracts of Land with the appurtenances unto him the said David Steinmetz his Heirs and assigns for Ever provided that the said his Heirs and assigns shall allow render and deliver out of and on the same to my widow the articles as before Mentioned and shall also pay for the same the sum of Eight thousand dollars Lawful Money of the United States in Manner following that is to say the sum of sixteen hundred dollars shall remain charged thereon during the Natural Life of my widow to pay her the Interest thereof as before Mentioned and the sum of Seventeen hundred dollars thereof my said son David shall keep and retain thereof for and on account of his portion out of my Estate and the sum of eight hundred dollars he shall pay in two years after my decease and then every year next following he shall pay the sum of two hundred and sixty six dollars and sixty seven cents until the whole is paid of [sic] and discharged and if in case my widow should die before all these payments become due then he shall pay every year the sum of four hundred dollars untill the said sixteen hundred dollars charged thereon during the Natural Life of my widow are also paid and discharged in full.

Pleasant Grove Cemetery, a small cemetery located in Green twp, Clark Co, OH has one stone marking the gravesites of 4 children. No other Steinmetz are interred there. I checked for their death records at the Clark Co probate office and evidently they died elsewhere as there was no record. I am not related to this line but thought I would post them as it may help someone.

I'm searching for any info on George Steinmetz and his wife Rebecca. I know George was born in PA about 1822. His wife, Rebecca was born in NJ about 1826. I don't know her maiden name. They show up in the 1850 census living in Camden NJ with their children Peter, Leonard and George. They have two others who live there also, Catharine Steinmetz and Margaret Frick (Flick?) I'm especially interested in finding out about Margaret Frick (Flick?). She is my GG Grandmother. I want to find out if she's related to the Steinmetz family somehow. Later records show two of Margaret's children have Steinmetz as their middle name. If anyone has any info they could share I'd be so grateful!

My great grandmother Agnes Cecilia Lemmer was born in Reading, Pa the daughter of Michael Lemmer and Emma Rebecca Steinmetz. Emma's parents were Anthony Steinmetz and Ann. Anthony was from France. I am not sure how he is realted to Agnes Steinmetz but they could be brother/sister since Agnes married a Lemmer too. And the middle name Cecilia is in you grandma's name.

I am trying to locate info on ancestors for Henrietta Steinmetz b Jun 26 1828 in Wies-Baden, Germany, married
Charles W Lennig on Jun 14 1853 in New York City after arriving on the boat before settling in the Youngstown, Ohio/Pittsburg, PA area. Henrietta died Oct 17 1907. She and Charles had 8 children, including my great-grandmother Mary who married George Daniel Geiger.

I have no info for Henrietta's parents and/or any siblings and have hit a brick wall.
