Gjertrud Knutsdtr. Steinsland was b. 27. Jan 1834 in Hjelmeland, (Rogaland fylke/county) probably at the Steinsland farm. Father was Knud Knudson Steinsland, b. 1811 at Steinsland, the son of Knut Knutson Eggebo, b. 1785-1856, that came to Steinsland ca. 1807 from the Eggebo farm in Aardal (Hjelmeland). Knut m. Gro Torjusdtr. in 1834 in Hjelmeland, b. 1807 in Mo, Telemark county. Gro probably the daughter of Torjus Alvson that came to Steinsland from the Vormeland farm ca. 1828 (from bygdebook Hjelmeland I, page 251.
Knut, wife and 5 children left Hjelmeland via Stavanger in 1857. In 1860 they lived at Chicksaw county, Iowa.
I belive Gjertrud and Aanen did live in Dover twp., Fayette county, IA ?.I have listed 9 children ?
Kjerstine Gjorgine, Ingeborg, Anna, Claus, Samuel, Amalia, Thomas, Joseph and John.
Can you help with their spouses - where did children/spouse live

Looking for info on Gertrude Stensland b. 1834

I am looking for any information on my great grandmother Gertrude Stensland (born 27 Jan 1834 in Hjelmeland, Norway) and married Aanen Knudsen Stangeland (born 15 Nov 1825 in Stangeland, Norway.)

Both emmigrated to the US (Iowa) before they were married in Iowa in 1857. I have had no luck finding her parents or siblings.

I am looking for information on Simon Stensland from Brookings South Dakota. The only information I have is from the WW1 civilian draft. It states he was born on Nov. 11, 1873.
He married my great aunt Caroline Blomberg or may be Caroline Foswick as my grandmother Bertine Blomberg Foswick took on the Foswick name after her parents were killed in a accident. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stensland was the name of a farm located near the village of Sorbo on the island of Rennesoy off the coast of Stavanger, Norway. The farms had names and the residents who were born on a particular farm took that name as their surname. No doubt there were other Stensland farms around the country; it mean large rock.

My maternal grandfather came to the US from Norway, Mosteroy island at the age of 3 years... His name was Carl Andreas Stensland and he had quite a few brothers (6 or 7) and two sisters. It may be that your husband is related to my family.

Also searching Albert or Alfred Stensland possibly
Chicago area who married Martha Berentsen and they
had a son, Norman. Martha was born Sweden/Norway
2/12/1885 also believed to have a daughter, Ruth
who was raised in Chicago after Martha moved East
with Norman. Any help would be appreciated.

Searching for Martha B.? who maried a Stensland and had a son Norman and possibly a daughter Ruth. Norman was in NY but I believe Ruth was from Chicago. The couple was married 1916 in Chicago, we think. I know it's not much to go on but it all we have. Any info would be helpful.

and that Martha, the mother, came from Sweden>Chicago>NY.

I am trying to trace my dad's side of the family . His great grandfather was Lars Stensland who lived in Chicago, Illinois back in the late 1800's. He had a son named Hans Stensland who married Marie Kearney. they in turn had a son named Albert Martin Stensland. I don't know who Lars married nor when they came to the US. They were Norwegian and Finnish, I think.
