I found www.ellisisland.org, it has 2 male Stenzig, but it only has from 1892-1924. Also, you said she was your ggrandmother, which one Wilhelmia or her daughter?

Well if my research notes were right I was looking in Orange County Historial Volumes and Reference Works by Harold (Hal) Landon Associate Editor their address is 1218 N. Broadway Santa Ana K1 7-8224
Also, this may help a bunch
The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.
The American Immigrant Wall of Honor
The Statue of Liberty put out books of all the names they recorded coming into the U.S.
Don't know if this helps I copied part of my family tree out of a registery book years ago and wrote down exactly like I saw it.

Henry & Wilhelmia (Stenzig) Struck
<they had a daughter- no other children on record>
(they came here in 1881 and Laura married in 1883)

I found through my digging that names were changed when they registered to this country and if last names couldn't be spelled or understood new ones were made. My family line also has alot more females being born than males, so the line could be very small for males being born and carrying on the family name.
Charlotte, I am assuming you are in Europe because there are no STENZIG surnames left in the US. I have just recently found my family in Germany. Please contact me directly. bddopp@rconnect.com and I will share what I have found and just perhaps we are connected.
Barb

steinzig and stenzig

my family's name was steinzeig originally, which my understanding is this means "stoneware" or carved stone, perhaps (I saw it spelled exactly like that under a stone carving in a German art catalogue, identifying the material, not someone's name). There are no more Steinzeig (now some Steinzig) in the US or Europe than there are Stenzigs! it seems. What other information do you have regarding this name, family? My family history is practically buried in mystery. David Steinzeig in New York and later Boston, had four sons. I think the way they dropped off the map must be that they changed their names and fell out of contact with each other. Any info?
