Surnames: Bang/Bangs, Sterling, Scott, Wiltshire, Ammons
I'm searching for information on my great-grandmother, Rebecca Sterling. She was born about December 1872.
Rebecca Sterling married Eugene Bang, later known as Eugene Bangs, September 10, 1887 in Jackson, MS. (On their marriage record they're listed as Eacham Bang and Rebekkah Starling.) They moved to Louisiana somewhere between 1900 - 1910 because of racial laws in MS. Eugene was of Choctaw descent, and Rebecca is said to have been of Cherokee descent.
Rebecca's mother's name was Ann V. ?, listed as Ann V. Loper in the 1900 census where she's a widow and living with Rebecca and her family. Ann's birthdate is listed as December 1848.
Rumor has it that Rebecca was born in Peru, MS, but I haven't found such a place. (Does or did it exist?)
In the 1900 census both Rebecca and her mother are listed as having been born in Mississippi. In the 1920 census Rebecca's listed as having been born in Alabama, and it says her parents were born in Alabama, too.
Rebecca gave birth to at least 13 children, 11 of whom lived long enough to make the census records. They were Sam Henry; Alonzo "Lonnie"; Ernest; Edward Eugene; William Westley; Enoch; Ollie; James Madison; Truman; Lettie Ann; and Jacob.
Do any of you have Rebecca or her mother in your records somewhere? If so, please post here or email me at munsonfly@yahoo.com.
Thanks for any help.
