Would anyone have any information about Nancy WRIGHT and Isaac STERLING. Nancy WRIGHT married Isaac STERLING 13 Nov 1836 in Connecticut and they went to Matagorda, Texas. Nancy then married James STERRY 02 Sep 1854 in Matagorda. I have not been able to find a death date for Isaac STERLING. Nancy and Isaac had six children, several of the children are listed in the 1860 Matagorda census living with Nancy and James STERRY.James and Nancy had four children. I am trying to find the time Isaac and Nancy went to Texas, and a death date for Isaac STERLING and Nancy & James STERRY and where any on them are buried.
Thanks so much,
Denise

STERRY DNA Project

The Sterry DNA Project welcomes all participants. We encourage you to join today!.

Our project is just getting started, and we expect to have many exciting discoveries.

Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your research of your family tree. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information on the evolution of the surname.

The surnames in this DNA Project are researched as part of the Sterry one-name study. You can learn more about this significant research, and the the associated family trees, by visiting the one-name study web site, or contacting the Group Administrator.

www.sterryworldwide.com

Sterry@one-name.org

The Y DNA test tells you about your direct male line, which would be your father, his father, and back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have one of the surnames shown. If you believe there is a Sterry or variant in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need to find a direct line male in your family tree to participate and represent your tree.

I am still searching for a Stephen Sterry born in U.S. probably CT about 1804. Listed in the Ontario, Canada 1851 census at age 45 indicating born U.S. and listed children Lois, Lenora, Elizabeth and William whose age was listed as 7 years - not sure whether they were Stephen's children or perhaps a brother - also there was a William born in CT about 1805 - wonder if that William and the Stephen I am searching for could be one and the same. Need to know when Stephen arrived in Ontario - numerous Sterry family in Troy area of NY State as late as the 1880's. Margaret

Anne - great to hear from you and would be interested in material from Marina's Will. I am assuming you have read the book by William Burgess Smith and probably know the website of Robert Sterry in Australia. Apart from that, the Stephen Sterry who was my great-grandfather was born in U.S. approx 1804 or 1805, married a gal by name of Sarah Kelsey who I believe was born in Ontario according to 1851 Ontario census records. on that census, he was listed as age 45, wife born in Ontario and then six children, Lois, Lenora (spelling?), Elizabeth, William, all between ages of 17 and 7) and then Albert age 3 and George age 1. In 1861 census older four not listed and Albert and George had a sister Anna. I have now found out what happened to Elizabeth. Stephen got married a second time in 1864 and at that time listed his parents as Stephen and Elizabeth Sterry, which makes me believe that the parents were Stephen born abt 1776 who married Eliz. Etheridge. I want to believe that the William you mentioned born in 1805 and the Stephen I have in Ontario are one and the same person. There were a lot of Sterry families in NY State and in the early 1800's people travelled across the border without any problem and settled wherever. I do have info at this time on Albert, George and Anna and a bit on the Eliz. mentioned in the 1851 census. Stephen also had three girls by his second wife (that wife was only 16 and he was 60). If you have an email address, we would not have to post these messages. Margaret.

Re: STERRY, Silas / KELLAM, Olive

Reading material on WFT written by Walter Burgess Smith on the Sterry Family of CT - reference made to Silas and Olive and lists their children as Parthena, William, Silas Jr., Samuel, Stephen and Daniel. You undoubtedly have this material but if not perhaps this is a help. I am still looking for anything on that Stephen who married Elizabeth Etheridge and had children, one of whom I believe is my Stephen born abt 1804 in CT. Found him in Canada in 1851 census but nothing earlier - anyone who might have info really would appreciate hearing. Margaret Sterry Jones

I am looking for the two daughters of Frank Middleton Sterry and Mabel Rhodes b abt 1902 Victoria BC Canada. They were married about 1926 in Victoria. Two daughters followed 1927-1930. Mabel died 1930. It was said that Frank Sterry took his two daughters to England and that they were raised there.

Mabel Rhodes was first cousin to my grandmother Ruby Bolton (Brown) Martine of San Francisco CA. The two Sterry girls (now in their 70s) would be second cousins to my mother.

Anyone connected with this family please contact me.

Margaret, so good to see the name in print.
It's too late tonight to do much looking but
I do know of one Stephen who was b. about 1776
who married Eliz. Etheridge. This Stephen had
a son, William, b. abt. 1850. I have been
really interested in Wm's sister, Marina.Wm.
had a wife, Sarah, and they had a dau. Sarah.
This Wm. and Sarah had unproven children one
of whom went to Ontario. Can't remember his
name. Marina left a will which I did order.
Stephen was lost at sea. Mother was Olive.
Does this fit anything you have. I still
haven't found my Wm. Williston Sterry- Ct
to NY. Been looking for years. Look forward
to hearing from you. You have made my day!!!
Tell me about you. Anne

Margaret, I knew something was wrong. Wm. was
born about 1805 and not 1850. Kind of makes
a difference!

Susanna Sterry - UK

Does anyone have any information on Susanna Sterry from London, UK. The only thing I know about her is that she took my Great-Grandmother, Lucy Caroline Crocker, in as a baby (the closest thing to adoption, I guess) in 1883. Lucy stayed with her until she married at 17. I can find no mention of her on the 1881 Census and would like any information about her or her family.

Karen Rhodes
