Ernest (Ernie) Stetson, 89,
passed away Wednesday June 10, 2009 at his residence in North East, Pa. He was born on September 20, 1919 in South Ripley, N.Y. a son of the late Thomas H. and Bessie A. Cummings Stetson.
Ernie and his late wife Bettie own and operated Stetson Auto Sales in North East.pa,
He also did building and demolition work. He and several friends built Sulphur Springs Speedway located on the family farm in Mina, N.Y. Ernie and his brother Harold built and established Bess Center Plaza in North East.pa,
Ernie was well known as a Jack-of-all-trades and master of all. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice (Bettie) Stetson in 1996, two brothers, Harold and Herbert Stetson
and three sisters, Nellie Green,
Edna Greenwald
and Mabel Rose
and his son-in-law Donald Perkins.
Ernie is survived by two daughters, Margaret Beers and her husband Fred .
and Sue Neff and her husband Victor all of North East,pa,
his companion Arlene Rothenberger,
one brother Carlton Stetson and his wife Georgiana of Westfield, N.Y.
and one sister Melissa Traylor of North East.pa,
Also survived by eight grandchildren, Ernest Beers and his wife Chris,
Martie Holtz and her husband Kevin,
Fred Beers and his wife Jen,
Rebecca Wheeler and her husband Rick,
Karla Dascomb and her husband Scott,
Vanise Shea and her husband Bill,
Korene Neff and her companion Tim Hanson
and Vic Neff and his wife Laura,
16 great grandchildren, Traci Thompson and her husband Gary, Tanya, Trysha and Tanner Wheeler, Lynn and Jeffrey Holtz, Matthew Dascomb, Angus and Lydia Beers, Brie, Halie and Makena Shea, Grayce Beers, Makayla and Makinly Hanson and Levi and Mason Neff,
and one great, great grandson, Rhett Thompson.
Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received
at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, Pa. on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Monday at 11 a.m. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
