William Rettig & Marion Steves are my great great grandparents. So looks like we are related- your grandfather is my great great uncle :-)

Sigbert Frank Steves was my great- great grandfather who settled in Fayetteville, TX. One of his sons was Frank Karl Steves who moved to the Cincinnati, OH area. My grandfather, William Henry Steves, moved to Anderson, IN. in 1905.

How do you fit into the Sigbert Steves family tree?

As a result of a recent trip to San Antonio and a visit to the Steves Homestead, I'm trying to determine if there is a relationship between Heinrich Steves and Sigbert Steves.

I'd be interested in hearing from you.

Nancy Steves Cordes

Stivers/Steves in New Brunswick

I'm trying to find descendants of John STEVES (1783-1869) who lived in New Brunswick. He had two marriages -- the first to Olive MALLERY (abt 1805), the second to Sarah BULL (in 1828). John's parents were Caleb and Alche STIVERS.

Descendants of John's brothers who moved to Ontario have been researched and we have a comprehensive family tree of them. One of the living males from this branch has had a Y-DNA test. We now need to discover another living male STEVES descendant from Caleb and Alche in order to validate the family tree.

Cheers, -- Dave

I am looking for the family of Jemima Steves b 1793 in NY, died in Lampton Co, Ontario 1875. She was married to Samuel Burnham. She had a son named Jeremiah--I see that some other people posting mentioned that name.
Since you do a lot of work on the family, I'm wondering if you have ever come across my Jemima.
Also I would like information about the Steves Association in Canada that you mentioned in another post. Do they have a web site?
I would be happy to exchange information with you-feel free to write me directly.
I have some Steves genealogy as I've been doing research for a friend of mine. His line goes like this: Robert Sr, Robert, Richard, Warren,Jerome, Hyland, and then Dorval, his father.
Robert Sr was married to a Catherine and then his son, Robert, was married to a Rebecca Yates. They were originally from Eastchester/Westchester area of downstate New York. His Steves family line eventually ended up in Washington Co, NY. Will share what I have, if anyone is interested. I believe that the original spelling of the name was Stivers. Thanks....Wanda

I am trying to trace our Jerimiah and I have a choice of two. His son was Joshua Stuart Steves married to Sarah Howard. Heinrich Steves is close in age to what I have figured for Jerimiah from census and war pensions about 1762. Could you help me? Kerrie

There was a "Henry" Heinrich (sp?) Steves -- known to his friends as "Bill". He was 2nd generation family that settled in Comfort, Texas. He was probably born around 1896. He passed away in 1980 and was buried in Waco, Texas. His second wife was Ilajo Moncrief, who passed away around November, 1984 and was also buried in Waco, Texas.

He had a brother or nephew in Austin, Texas, but I am not sure of his name. (I believe it was Allen).

His best friend was Guido Ranslaben (sp?) who used to run the small museum in Comfort, Texas. When I visited, it seemed like half of the museum's history was of the Steves' family.

Good luck!

I am trying to locate descendants of Laura Leobelle BIXBY, b 1902, Buffalo, NY, daughter of Ralph Webb BIXBY and E. Bloudene (WESTBROOKE) BIXBY. Laura married 1918, Vernon F. STEVES and they were the parents of one daughter Barbara STEVES, b about 1920. Laura and Vernon divorced. Later (sometime in 1930 after the census was taken,) Laura married Frederic WEINHEIMER.

Laura was my mother's first cousin, but Mother never knew her due to the divorce of Laura's parents. We didn't know of Laura's daughter, Barbara STEVES existence until I found her on the 1930 census living with her mother on Colvin Avenue in Buffalo, Erie, New York.

My mother will be 92 at the end of the month and it would be great fun to surprise her with information about her cousin. I had been thinking about my g'mother's 2nd cousin, Rose Asquith (nee Ryder). I'll never forget when she came to visit us in Colorado (in the 60's)... how are you related to her? I will be happy to ask my dad about how you can get in touch with the Somer's children.
And, I would love to find out about our family line. What little
info. I've got pertains more to the Steve's family--not much on
Ryder.

I am wanting to know if the Jerimiah Steves in my line is the same in your line. I figure Jerimiah would have been born sometime around 1761, his son is Joshua Stuart Steves about 1787 married to Sally Howard, and his son Phillip or Philip Steves est 1807-1816 married to Janet Hartwell to his son Francis Marion Steves married to Jennie Ryder. All except Joshua were born in New York. The family in New York was around Clarkson Monroe, Rome, and Sing Sing counties.

STEVES of Onondaga Coutny, New York

I have been looking to identify the parents of Martha Almedia Steves b. 1846 NY for some time. I have now possitively identified them as Charles W. and Almedia Steves. Below are my findings:

I did a search for an Almedia Steves on the 1880 U.S. Census in New York State. I tried Almedia because it is such an unusual name and was used for three generations that I knew of: Martha Almedia, her daughter Lucia Almedia and her daughter Martha Almedia.

I found an Almedia Steves residing with her husband Charles W. and their son Ross L. in Geddes, Onondaga, New York. Charles W. was 62 years old, born in New York. Almedia was 60 years old, born in New York. Ross L. was 20 years old, born in New York. The ages worked, as Martha was 34 years old in this census year and that would mean that if Charles and Almedia were her parents they were in their 20’s when she was born.

My next step was to check the 1850 U.S. Census for the Steves family. I found Charles W. living with his wife Almedia and their children, Catherine A. age 12, Charles R. age 11, Isaac B. 9, Lovina C. 7, Martha A. age 4, and Frances A. age 1 in Geddes, Onondaga, New York. Charles W. was 33 years old, Almedia was 29 years old and Martha A. was 4 years old. This put her birth in 1845/46.

In addition to the age and name matching, Martha’s daughter Lucia named her children as follows: Lewis Murray, Blanche Lovina, Leslie Grant, Ross Lucius, Martha Almedia, Herbert Wayne, Harold Floyd, Vernon Leo and Russell Wilson.

If any other resaearcher has information regarding this family I would love to hear from you and of course I will share anything else I find.

Andrea,
Thanks for responding so quickly. I knew that my sister-in-law was corresponding with someone, but we really hadn't talked much about it. I have been doing genealogy for 25 years or so, but mostly for my own family. I retired about a month ago, so I know how difficult it is to try to do the family research, work full time, and take care of a family. What triggered my interest in the Steves family now, is that my husband's grandfather, Jay Steves was a professional photographer. We have a collection of his glass plate negatives. I have been nagging my husband for years to develop them. Thanks to a new computer and scanner, he has finally started. So far, the pictures are of family events. I will be very glad to share the copies with you and Kellie, if you want. It is a slow process, but I think you will find at least some of them worth the wait.
Ellen

Hello! I think I have been cooresponding with Philip's sister. Do you know of Kerrie Somers (don't have info. in front of me--not sure I've spelled last name correctly)? She has been doing some very active searching lately from what she tells me. I, on the other hand, have had to put my searching on the shelf for a bit due to work, etc. I'm the g'daughter of Addie Mae Steves-Staggs. Hope to get back into searching in the fall. Since I'm not retired, my time is limited. Very nice to hear from you! ~ Andrea Staggs-Arthurs
