Re: Steyer Family of Garrett Co. Maryland

Yes, I have. I've also looked at the 1860 Allegany Co., MD census showing Isabella M.J. Dulon (age 3) living with George Riley (age 66) and Margaret Riley (age 55) and also the 1870 Allegany Co. census showing Isabella Doley living with Margaret Riley (age 65).
George & Margaret Brandt Riley had two children marry into the family of Achilles Duling. Emmorella Duling married Samuel Riley and Davis Kennison Duling married Isabella Riley. Isabella Riley Duling died in June 1857 (I suspect from childbirth complications) and Davis returned to his parent's home (in the 1860 census). Due to the listing of Isabella Duling marrying Samuel G. Steyer in the "Genealogy of the Brown Family of Prince William Co. VA", I believe that this young lady is the daughter of Davis Kennison Duling. I just can't prove it ...... yet. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Nettie C. Steyer

You are in luck here. You'll want to get a copy of "Genealogy of the Brown Family of Prince William County, Virginia" by James Edgar Brown, Shenandoah Publishing House, Inc., Strasburg, VA, 1930.

Page 295 lists the genealogy of a Nettie C Steyer, b. Aug 25, 1885 m. Ernest Moreland (date not listed). Neither listed as deceased at time of publication (1930)

She was the first of six children born to Charles A. Steyer (b. Sept 13, 1860) and Maria A. Wilson Steyer (married Oct 29, 1884) in Garrett County, MD.

With the book, you'll be able to date the Steyer family back to Boston in the 1700s and the Brown family in Virginia back in 1726 and there is evidence given to go back with the Brown family to 1632, although my recollection of the book is spotty.

My mother had relatives in Cleveland named Steyer. Their relatives included names Elefant and Katz. One of them was Mayor of a town in Ohio, maybe Cleveland. Do you know of anyone who may be a relative of mine?
zigory@columbia.edu
