Surnames: St. Germain, Burgher
Hello Mary - your mention of a St. Germain going to Michigan caught my eye. I am looking for my grgrandmother, Mathilde or Natalie Flora St, Germain who was in Michigan in 1888 with 2 young sons and was a widow ( family lore, not substantiated). She met my grgrandfather, age 17, and got pregnant (she was 25-27). They got married and their child, Earl James Burgher, was born 12 June 1889 in Bay City or West Branch, Ogemaw County, Michigan. She allegedly had to, or chose to, put the 2 young sons by her first husband in an orphanage when she married my grgrandfather, James William Burgher. They named one of their subseqent 6 children Henry. Mathilde or Natalie was nicknamed "Tillie" and spoke French. I have found her death cert and gone to her grave, but do not know anything of her from before she married James Burgher. Her death cert has nothing on it regarding her parents, only that she was born in Canada 18 August 1862 Could there be any connection here with your information?
