I am afraid that I have little information on the Stickler Family and even less on the Scott Family. It has been sometime since I actively worked on family genealogy. I am less familiar with this line since it was my paternal grandmother's line...Wanda (Tracy) Richter and have little information. I will review what I have and post what I have. Thanks for your reply cousin.

It appears that you and I are 3rd cousins. Franklin Pierce was my gggrandfather. His son was John Fred Scott, whose son was Forest Frederick Scott, whose son was William Frederick Scott, who was my father. For several years I have been trying to find more information about Franklin's wife Florence Aretta and particularly about her mother Lovina Linn. If you have any info. on either of them, or on any of the Scott's in our line, I would be grateful to hear from you!
Thanks!

The 1860 census lists Stephen and Susan with children: Sarah, Lewis, Charles, William, Leonia and Hester.
I was led to believe that Oscar Stickler was related to a Nathan Stickler who was a brother of my George Stickler. A Mrs. Bob Stickler whose hubby is the son of Robert and Althea Stickler gave me some information many, many years ago. She mentioned a Crane connection.
Nathan Stickler was the son of Martin and Lucretia Griffin Stickler who were buried in Thurston, NY.
I have always thought that Martin and Stephen were either brothers or first cousins.
There are 2 Agnes Sticklers and that is why I needed to sort them out.
Yes, Agnes born circa 1895 was the d/o Lafayette Stickler who was the son of Stephen and Susan Stickler. I think this branch is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Campbell.
The other Agnes was born circa 1863 and was a sister-in-law to Oscar Stickler of Campbell.
These Sticklers are cousins to my line.
There were 2 George Sticklers both born about 1844. Mine died in 1878 in a coal car accident at Ralston, PA. The other was a cousin to him who served in the 107th NYV.
My George had 2 brothers who stayed in the Campbell area; Charles and Nathan.

Yes, Sticklers are buried in Riverside Cemetery and Hope Cemetery in Campbell, NY.
These Stickler, somehow, connect to the Sticklers of Corning and Big Flats. There was a George Stickler (Steakler) in 1820 Corning and I think he was the grandpappy of all who settled in this area.
The Campbell , NY Sticklers descend from Martin Stickler who was born 1812 in Lancaster, PA and died Nov. 1878 in Thurston, NY
Martin Stickler married Lucretia Griffin and they had a large family.
Agnes.....was she married to a Stickler or was that her maiden name?
William Stickler had a daughter F.E. (Effie) who died at age 12 and was buried in the Miller Cemetery, Big Flats. She was born in 1863 and died in 1875. Her stone is now illegible as it does not appear on the 2002 cemetery listing. I was given this info by the Big Flats Historical Society many, many years ago.

Nancy,
About a year ago I gave Helen Earl all my info on the Sticklers from Sticklertown/Caton, NY. It seems they were cousins to my branch that left Corning and settled in Thurston. Each branch has repetitive names and it gets confusing.
There was a George Stickler who resided here and was born 1780-90 and John Stickler was born about then too as his wife Effie was born 1786. They were probably brothers or cousins. John D. had sons John D. and Martin. My Martin had several sons one of which was George born 1844. The other branch had Philip, Stephen and others. I have found George, born 1780-90, George born 1802, Phillip born 1804, Peter born 1804, Martin born 1812 and another George born 1815-20. There was a George who was also born 1844 and was a cousin to my George born 1844.
You must contact Helen...remember there are Sticklers buried in High Street, Cemetery in Painted Post...think one is a Rebecca. There are many buried in the Town of Campbell in Riverside Cemetery.
In the Big Flats cemetery on Main Street there is a little girl buried as F. E. Stickler...Effie???
Nancy,
Thank you!
I have had a hard time trying to figure out the Sticklers, so your information about Effie is a big help.
Do you think the Philip I am researching and your Martin were brothers? Both were born in Pa, Philip about 1805 and Martin 1812, so I have eliminated George as being the father of either of them, which leaves John. At least I haven't been able to come up with another brother in Steuben County.
Nancy

Hi, again!!
I have found some news on the Sticklers and am getting a better picture of the whole gang.
In Pritchard Cemetery in Corning, NY there is an Effie Stickler, w/o John Stickler and she died May 2, 1835 at age 49 so she was born about 1786. They would be perfect as the parents of my Martin Stickler who was born in PA in 1812. I believe John and Effie came to NY circa 1820 and that John was a brother to the George Stickler who was here in 1790.
Pritchard Cemetery was moved when Bob Hooey built an apartment complex on the site. Some graves were moved by the families and a small portion still is nearby the original location. I will check to see if John and Effie are there. There is a young firl buried in Big Flats under the name F. E. Stickler and it should be Effie.
My great-grandmother was, evidently, named for her great-grandmother.
Also there are Gilbert and John Stickler, young children, buried in Pritchard Cemetery. John must have had 3 wives or 2 wives and a daughter-in-law as there are Effie, Harriett, and Lucinda all listed as wives of John. Nancy

The Morrison farm was on the River Road in South Corning and was referred to as the Turkey Farm in its latter days. It is all gone now.
Your branch of Sticklers were the "Sticklertown group" and they were cousins to my branch in Corning and Thurston, NY.
In the Old Presbyterian/Pritchard Cemetery on Corning's Northside there are buried the very earliest Sticklers and I believe all the local Sticklers descend from this group.
There was a George Stickler (Steakler) who settled in this area by 1810 and he had at least one son John D. Stickler. John D. Stickler buried several children and wives in this cemetery. (Unfortunately the graves now lie under a parking lot of a church.)
The Sticklers originated in Lancaster County, PA and some were born in Orange County, NY during the migration. I am convinced that old George was the grandpappy of the clan and he may have had as many as 4 sons who fathered the various branches in this area.

My late mother in law was raised by her grandfather Eugene Stickler, son of William, son of Philip. I found notes she had written about the family. She wrote as a young girl she went with her grandparents to the Stickler reunion at Ira Morrison's in Corning. Ira Morrison's wife was Arabella daughter of Peter Stickler. She also tells of the Stickler's of Mill Creek being there, that would be William Grant Stickler son of George and Rebecca. She refers to them all as "cousins of grandpa Sticklers people". If so that makes George, Philip and Peter brothers.
Hope this is not too confusing. Most of my research of the Stickler family has been nothing but confusing. :)
Nancy

I have a Emma Leah Stickler born 28 June 1887 married to George Birchard born 11 July 1877. Emma's parents were Leander Stickler born in 1856 and Carrie M Shafer born 6 Oct 1862. Leander & Carrie are buried at Knowlton School House Cemetery. These are from my moms side of the family, so Emma would be my greatgrandmother. Does anyone have any info on this line?
