Wayne,
Saw you post about Stigler, Stother, Berry and McConnaha line and would love to discuss. Robert King McConchie and Elizabeth Betsy Stigler were parents of my ggg grandfather George W. McConchie. There are many things I'd like to find out and the Berry/Strother connection is one and you might be able to help me with who Jenny McConnaha's parents were? Also, Robert King McConchie's father was Robert McConchie and he married Mary Ann King. We've been trying to figure out what King family and notice you've also got an Ethel Mary King.
Please get in touch--know your Stigler line must connect to mine!
A.
Hello Harvey, I too research the Stigler line and wonder if your line relates to what I know about mine? I have Stiglers in Ross County, OH about 1845 or so, the daughter Vermilka (Veronica) married B. Jefferson Huffman in 1848. Have always thought her father to be Sylvester Stigler or George or perhaps they were uncles but doubtful, really believe one of them was her father. If any of this sounds promising I have more info and will gladly swap info. Thanks, Vicki E.

She is my great grandmother. Her only daughter, Ida, was my maternal grandmother...married to David Marshall in Cincinnati in 1909.
My husband and I just returned from Cincinnati and I had my picture taken at their gravesites. Her name is spelled Christiana on the headstone which was a surprise to me, but I thought it was beautiful and more German than Christina.
I have just begun to find time to chase ancestors.
I'd like to keep in touch with you.
Dave and Ida and their only child, Evelyn, my mother, moved to southern California around 1919-20.
I live in Santa Ana (Orange County) about 5 minutes from Disneyland.

Your cousin, I trust,
Marsha Howe

Just a few more thoughts.
I was told by my grandmother, Ida, that her mother came to the U.S. with her sister when she, Christina, turned 21. I do not think their parents came with them. Her sister's name was Francesca or Franchesca.
Do you know why they went to Wellman, Iowa before moving back to Cincinnati?
I just noticed that you posted your query in 2001. I hope you get this!!!

I am not related to the Stigler family in any way. I just try to post information that I find in the Pontotoc County, OK genealogical society publication. There is a picture of an Ed Stigler family in one of these publications. It is a man, wife, little girl and baby which I think is a boy. This appears to have been taken in the early 1900's. Thought they might be related to you since yours is the only posting involving Oklahoma.

Thanks very much, Buddy, for posting that info about the James Stigler and George W. Stigler families. A lot of it was new to me!

For some reason, I had thought that James was a brother, not the father, of George. I'm trying harder to be a meticulous genealogist, so I wonder if you could please post your source that establishes James as the father.

Also, do you know which of James's wives--Mary Benson or Catherine--was the mother of George? Given the dates, Mary seems more likely.

Thanks again for your help. I plan to e-mail you later and pick your brain a bit more. :)

Jim
Hi Jim:
My sister and I have been doing research on the Stiglers of MS for the past three years.

George's farther was James Stigler who came to Lawrence CTY MS around 1812 or 1813. DOB 1771 in VA and DOD 5/23/1839 in Holmes County MS.

James had two spouses. The first was Mary Benson. They were married in Fauquier, VA on 4/20/1793. The second was named Catherine was his spouse when he died. I have very little information on Catherine.

George W. Stigler was born 1/29/1795 in VA. DOD 5/24/1870 and is buried in Beal Cemetery in Lexington, MS.

George was married to Catherine Rison DOB 1805 in MS.
Married 12/21/1820 in Lawrence cty MS. The DOB was obtained from the 1850 MS census. It looks like she was only 15 when they married.

We have placed James family in Franklin Cty GA in 1806-1811 and before that we think in Greenville cty, SC. We are trying very hard to trace them back to the proper Stigler family in VA.

Hope this helps.

Buddy Stigler

Christina Stigler IA OH

I am trying to identify the family of my great-great grandmother. She was married to Conrad Semler on 13 APR 1879 in Johnson Co., Ohio. She was born in Germany on 2 FEB 1854 and died in Cincinnati, OH on 11 JUL 1910. Her death certificate only lists the last name of her parents and her mother's maiden name is not legible. Looks possibly like "Amrhurd", but is very unclear. My mother believes that she came from Germany with her family when she was 21 years old. The 1900 census gives the year of immigration as approximately 1876 and in the 1910 census as 1870. She may have immigrated on the ship Rhein on 23 May 1874 from Bremen to New York. It is the closest match I have been able to find and lists 2 passangers as "Stregler, Francisca 22F & Stregler, Christe 21F" but no parents. Since she was married prior to the 1880 census, I am unable to locate her with her parents. After marriage, Conrad and Christina moved to Cincinnati, OH. Any information is greatly appreciated.

In response to Eleanor's message, I have meager info on JOEL BERRY who m. MARY STIGLER, b. ca 1726 in King Geo. Co., Va,. I know they had 6 children but do not know any of the names. Joel Berry sold part of James Stigler, Sr's land in King George Co., Va in 1707 to Enoch Berry.

In the King George Co. Va, Will Book A-1, 1721 - 1752, page 217, I find JOEL BERRY mentioned in the will of HENRY BERRY, (d. t. 1748/9). "..............Sarah Berry came into court and refused to accept any legacy bequesthed to her by the will of her late husband, Henry Berry, deceased. On 8 Septembe 1750, Administration on the estate of Henry Berry, deceased, wil the will annexed, is granted to Joel Berry, the executors named in the said will refusing to act. Isaac Farguson became Joel Berry's security........"

This is interesting, maybe it will help.

Mary

My Great Grandfather was James A. Stigler

My name is Malcolm Gerald Moore. I live in Columbus, Ms. I was born 7 Mar 46 in G'wood,Ms and lived in Itta Bena until 1949.
My mother was Janice Belle Smith. She was the youngest child of William Hiram Smith and
Jessie Belle Stigler. Jesse(sp)was one of 19 children fathered by James A. Stigler. My grandmother Jesses's mother was Sophronia Campbell. I used to be in proud possession of the Stigler family bible until Desert Storm.(that's another story) This will be from memory but I hope it will help. I beleive I have copies of the birth/death records that were in the bible. James Stigler married sisters (campbells). One would have a few children and die. then he would remarry. And so on. Jesse Belle was born in 1881, Feb I think. Lillian Stigler, Auntee, was the last, born in 1889. She is buried in Ruleville too. I was there in June and took photos of all the graves.

I am in Boise, Idaho right now, on duty with the national guard. Will return to Columbus 0n 26 Aug 00. 1-662-327-0070 home phone
P.O. Box 5372 Zip 39704-5372.
"E" mail at my desk is wpup69@hotmail.com
I am not on internet at home but hope to be shortly. I sent copies of family record to cousins--Dr. Jerry Hughes in Bay Springs, Ms
and Betsy Jones in Jonesboro, Ak. I am almost positive I have a copy at home--just have todind it and get you a copy.
I can almost swear that James Stiglers married Campbell sisters. The Stigler family bible's first entry was in 1852. not sure about anything else. Fisty and Loise
Dorrough (sp),I think he was the mayor of Ruleville at one time, were cousins. Until I can locate the copy of the Stigler bible maybe Jerry Hughes can assist with info.
I do hope this was of some help. I took a break but just can't remember any more of the wives names. Get back with me. I'll be here today at this desk until 6 pm your time.

Oz,
Thanks for the reply, but I cannot find any Lonnie Harris in Sunflower Co., MS.. My data is very limited, so that is not to say that there is not a connection. I find so many Stiglers in VA, MS, KY, and all seem to be from the same 2 or 3 brothers who came here long before the Revolutionary War. Wish I could connect. Thanks for your input. I will keep it on file.
Mary

Mrs. James Stigler Smith

I would be grateful if you would be able to help me with data on James Stigler and descendants, or his parentage. there are so many with the same names, that it takes a true detective to be able to sort them out. Also the multiple marriages adds to the confusion. Will wait to hear from you. If you prefer you can e-mail me directly.

Thanks again,
Mary

Looking for info on Vermilka Stigler who seems to have become Veronica Stigler. In her 80's, death certificate dated April 1907 indicates she was born in Germany. She had several children, her husband might have been named George or Jefferson Huffman, known to have lived in Springfield, Ohio and buried in Grandview Cemetery, Ohio.

James & Martha Stigler of King George, VA

Here's my line from James & Martha Stigler of King George, VA:

1) James Stigler m. Mary Martha (Berry/Strother?)
2) David Stigler m. (?)
3) Price Stigler m. Jenny McConnaha
4) James Stigler m. Anna McCarty
5) Sarah Ann Stigler m. Isaac Newton Greene
6) Henry Harrison Greene m. Catherine Strosnider
7) Homer Edward Greene m. Ethel Mary King
8) Wayne Greene m. Edna (my mom)
9) Wayne Greene (me)

I would like to know what the connection is between the Berry family, the Strother family and the Stigler family. I found our ancestor James Stigler witnessed on several Berry Family and Strother Family documents. On two occasions, James Stigler was witness on Grace Berry documents in 1750 and 1757. In 1750, Grace Berry gave a negro slave to her grandson Nicholas Strother witnessed by James Stigler. In 1757, James Stigler was witness on estate of Grace Berry. I believe this is the same Grace married John Berry. Their daughter Margaret Berry married Joseph Strother. Nicholas Strother was their son and he was common law marriage with Mary Harrison. Both Joseph Strother, Ncholas Strother and Mary Harrison are witnesses on James Stigler will dated 1765 in King George, VA. The executors of James Stigler will dated 1765 in King George, VA were Joel Berry and Robert Stringfellow. Coulld our Mary Martha Stigler be daughter or granddaughter of Margaret Berry & Joseph Strother?

I would love to exchange info and ideas with other Stigler family members researching this line!! Thanks,

Wayne Greene
