I wonder if you've seen this interesting file, which indicates your John Stilwell was a blacksmith in Stanton?

http://deltrac.com/archaeology/sr7/pdf/series110/series110_h...

Otherwise, I have no info on this family. It is interesting though that I have an ancestor John Stilwell w/ son Jacob from Penn, about a generation earlier.

Regards,
Neil

Do you have information on Allen Stillwell (1809-1880), specifically his parents? Some accounts have him born in North Carolina, others, South Carolina.
I am a descendant of his son, G. W. Stillwell (born 1845, Georgia), and my family lives in Phenix City, Alabama. Thanks.

I wondered whether this was a distinctly different line or somehow tied to the NJ Stillwells. Thanks for the clarification.

I can document back to David D Whitener marrying Sarah Stillwell on 24 Dec 1829 in Catawba County. They move to Whitfield County, GA just before the War. He dies there in 1863 and she moves to Bell County, TX, where she dies in 1887.

Many researchers have her linked to John Stillwell, but that's too generic and I can't find any documentation to support it.

Thanks,
Irene Hewitt

Allen Stillwell (b. abt 1802, NC>GA>AL)

I would very much like to share information with anyone researching the Allen Stillwell family of Georgia and Alabama, and in particular anyone who might have any information whatsoever on Allen's son, William Stillwell (sometimes shown as William McDonald Stillwell).

Allen was born in North Carolina about 1802. He married Rachel Jemmerson on September 12, 1825 in Upson County Georgia. They were the parents of:

1. Andrew J. Stillwell (born about 1838 in Georgia)
2. John A. Stillwell (born May 11, 1840 in Upson County, Georgia, died May 21, 1914 in Randolph County, Alabama; married Jane Smith with whom he had children, then Fannie Breed)
3. George W. Stillwell (born about 1842 in Georgia)
4. William Stillwell (born about 1845 in Georgia, married S. Elizabeth ? prior to 1880, who I believe to be Elizabeth Wade)
5. Younger J. Stillwell (born about 1847 in Georgia)

Allen's son, William, is living with his wife, S. Elizabeth, near Allen in the 1880 census of Blount County, Alabama. I believe this William and Elizabeth Stillwell were the parents of:

1. Henry S. Stillwell (born June 11, 1882 in Alabama, died August 22, 1945 in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama; married Lula Thomas), and
2. Willie Stillwell (born October 1884; she married Buster Rice).

Henry Stillwell and Lula (Thomas) Stillwell were my grandparents. We know that Henry's parents names were William and Elizabeth (Wade) Stillwell, and that Henry's father, William, died between 1884 and 1887. I have reason to believe that Allen Stillwell's son William is Henry's father.

I would appreciate any information at all anyone can share on this family, and will gladly share the information I have.

[Census locations for this family: Allen's family was in Upson County, GA for the 1840 and 1850 census; Russell County, Alabama for the 1860 and 1870 census; and Blount County, Alabama for the 1880 census, at which time William and his wife were living near him. Allen's son John was in Harris County, Georgia in 1870, at which time William was living in his household, and John was in Randolph County, Alabama, for the 1880 census.]
William Stillwell and Elizabeth (Wade) Stillwell were my great-grandparents. Their son, Henry Stillwell (born 1882 in Alabama, died 1945 in Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama), who married Lula Thomas, were my grandparents.
Our family has stilwell roots in NC. I am looking for the family of an Elizabeth Stilwell who married a Peter Taylor around 1835 and lived in the 1840 census in the area of North Carolina called Burke County on the south side of the Catawba River and west side of the north fork. Peter and Elizabeth (Stilwell) Taylor are burried in the old Hildebrand Cemetery.

I know your post is very old but I have a dead end. My gr-gr-gr-grandmother was Martha Stillwell, born in NJ 1805 ( I suspect she was from the New Brunswick area). She married Cornelius Vanderbilt born in NJ 1803. Does any of this sound familiar to you? I am unable to find parents of either Martha or Cornelius.
