I read your message today on Ida Ann Stobaugh. My father
and Ida Ann were brother and sister. I corresponded with
her daughter, Darby Robbins Payne many years ago, but
lost contact. I do have information from letters Darby
wrote me and would be glad to share them. Perhaps you
could also help my research.
Martha Jane Kirkland

I am also intrigued by this post regarding the bible (my first time seeing it also). I am also a descendant of Sarah Frances Stobaugh and WIlliam Emery Teague. My mother is Muriel Bailey Rogers. Daughter of Cleveland Bailey and Frances Marion Terry. Daughter of George Lee Terry and Annie Teague (sister to Ursy). One of my mother's sisters was named after Ursy Teague. Would love to have contact with anyone researching this line - Stobaughs have been my brick wall for years.

My father-in-law was Estell Stobaugh (b. 1920, Markum, OK), son of James Marion Stobaugh (b. 1889 Putnam Co, MO), son of Jesse Stobaugh (b. Iowa?), probably the son of John Stobaugh (b. Virginia?).
Re: Ann Marie (Anna Maria?) Stobaugh?

The Henry Stobaugh (married to Hiley) was the son of Henry and Rebecca Berry. The Ann you refer to was NOT one of their children. Henry and Hiley lived all their lives in Kentucky, probably in/on the same farm. While Rebecca and Henry had a daughter Anna she was much too old to match the BD for the Ann you are looking for. The only other Ann that I can find is my beloved great aunt, Anna Marie who is too young to be your Ann. I don't know where the source of the information that the Stobaugh's included Indian ancestry, but it is not something I can confirm for my lineage. There is a line of Stobaugh/Slabaugh/Snobaugh in Illinois that I have begun to research. There is also a possibility that research through the Ingram family might pay off since that Surname crops up several times along with Stobaugh's in the printed census'. If you are interested in some my research, write me at redrobin-67003@yahoo.com. Good Luck B in Kansas
Hello Randall,

My Stobart information is slightly sketchy. Some of the names/dates I'm about to share with you might not be right but here goes!

My grandfather was Parmley Stobart. He was born in Barnard Castle, I think, but lived most of his life in Darlington.

I believe my great-grandfather was John Nattrass Stobart. He was born circa 1879 in Darlington. He married a Mary Jane Longstaff. I have him listed in the 1881 census. He is living, age 3, with his Uncle George, two other Stobart brothers, John and William, (one of which is his father. It is unclear which) and his sister or cousin, Isabella. His Uncle/father John and William are both widowed.

I suspect that his father was William. Either way, the father of the three sons living together (that is George, John, and William, all born in Alston, Cumberland) is another John Nattrass Stobart. He, I believe, was born circa 1803 in Whitfield, Northumberland. He married Isabella Parmaley and had his three aforementioned sons as well as three daughters: Hannah, Ann, and Jane. I have their birthdates if you need them.

The father of John Nattrass Stobart is George Stobbart, born circa 1779 in Green Town, Northumberland. He married a Mary Askew.

I would love to know if any of these names ring a bell with you. Most of these Stobarts seemed to work in the railway so we might be of a different line.

Best wishes,
Hannah
I shall be back in a week's time when I promise to dig out my Stobart research and send you a more detailed email.

I'll be in touch soon,

Hannah

Yes, I believe that Robert was the son of my great uncle Floyd. or maybe I have skipped a generation. I have a 2nd cousin still living in the St. Joe area, you might try to contact him. Jon Stobaugh he's still listed in the phone book I believe. He knew a great deal more about that side of the family. I will do some more looking. If Robert is Floyd's son then I have the family history back to the original emigrant. Glad to 'hear' from you always like to find a new friend. B

Barbara Burge-Robinson,
I saw your old posting saying that your great great grandparents owned the land in Andrew and Platte counties in MO so might well as I decided to contact you to see if you are related to the family of Robert and Geneva Stobaugh. I never met them but I remember their son Terry who was Deaf and went to MO School for the Deaf in Fulton for a short time (I think 1967 or 1968. I was a student there from 1959 to 1971.He told me he and his family lived part time in Alaska and in St. Joseph area. I saw the name of his twin brother Gerry's death through St. Joe obituaries website and also mentioned that Gerry was preceded in death by his brother Terry Stobaugh. If you know him, can you tell me about his life? Thank you, Don Cobb

Re: Stobaugh Family History ... Nodaway Co., MO

Hi Barb,
My name is Patrick Murphy. I am a Lacy descendant living in Indiana. One of my Lacy clan from Hancock Co., IN married a Stobaugh. Her name was Martha J. Lacy (ca1857 - aft. 1888). Martha was married to Jacob Stobaugh (ca1849 - bet. 1880 - 1888) on March 16, 1876 in Hancock County. They had one known child ... Iva A. Stobaugh, born in Nodaway Co., MO.
I'm basically trying to find additional for Iva's parents and her maternal grandparents. Martha Lacy's parents were Morgan Lacy and Mary (Adams) Lacy. Jacob Stobaugh's parents were John Foster Stobaugh and Rachel (Unknown) Stobaugh. Jacob was born in Putnam Co., IN. His parents are buried in Nodaway Co., MO.
Morgan Lacy purchased land in Hardin Co., IA during the 1850's, but at some point was involved with the move of the Stobaugh's from Indiana to Missouri. It's a mystery as to where Morgan and Mary Lacy died; and also their daughter, Martha and her husband Jacob Stobaugh.
Anyway, have you previously been in contact with others researching this Stobaugh line?? Thanks for your time, Barb.
Patrick Murphy

Hello,

I too am a descendent of Ann Maria Stobaugh. My mother gave me the information she obtained from talking with my great grandfather, William Cassity, who was married to Ann Maria’s daughter, Viola Ingram. William Cassity said that Ann’s mother was Elizabeth Williams Stobaugh and that she was a full blood Cherokee Indian who had been adopted by a Kentucky statesman. He also said that her father was Isaac Stobaugh. Ann Maria was born in 1837 in Lawrence County, Kentucky. Do you have any of this information? Why is it that the descendents of Ann Maria say that Isaac Stobaugh and Elizabeth Williams are her parents, and descendents of the other Stobaugh children claim that she is not? I don’t think that all of her descendents would have the wrong information, do you? I would appreciate any information you can shed on this as it has been a brick wall for sometime. Thank you for your time, Theri Ashe
I am looking for info on the families and ancestry of Philip Stobaugh and Malinda (Stobaugh) Hitch. I believe that they are brother and sister. They are listed as neighbors in the 1850 census of West Union, Fayette Co. IA. They were born 11/10/1819 and 12/5/1820 in Virginia respectively. They may be the children of John & Margaret Stobaugh. I have a few more details if it helps narrow things down. Please contact me if you have any info or leads.
Paula,
I am so confused and would love to have the correct information on George Washington Stobaugh who married Nancy Elizabeth Bartlett. They are my great grandparents. I've heard so many stories about a George and Martha (siblings) that have gotten totally confused with your Stobaugh family over in the Cleveland, AR area. My ggrandparents George & Nancy lived mostly in the Mt Zion, Appleton and Jerusalem, Arkansas areas. Where the other group lived over toward Cleveland and Scotland, Arkansas. I believe someone has the George & Martha information mixed up.
My Aunt Mable Spitzer said our Martha was married to Wiley Cariker but others say she was married to Willis Freeman.
So with two families having both a George and Martha (siblings) in their respective families, we've gotten their data mixed up and it totally messes up our family tree.
I do know that my great great grandparents (parents of George & Martha, Elizabeth & Lurinda) died and that Doctor James Tate in Appleton raised them.
Could you help me unravel this confusion for me please.
Thanks,
Shirley [Lee] Fagundes

I can't recall the name of it. Is it possible to get another copy of it? I know it was a very limited publication. I would very much appreciated any help you could offer. Rosemary

Isaac's children are well documented and he and Elizabeth Sue Williams did not have a child named Ann?Marie. One of Isaac and Elizabeth's younger sons, Kenos had a daughter with Martha Susan Johnson, their oldest who was named Anna Marie, I called her my Aunt Pie even though she was my great aunt. Her younest sister was my grandmother. Isaac' father Henry and Rebecca Berry had three children when he was killed in 1811. They are listed in a Kentucky census as Anny, Henry and Isaac. I would be very interested to know where your information was obtained since I have an extensive file on this branch of the family. I would be happy to correspond with you further.

Shirley, Yes, I know what you mean about George Washington Stobaugh. You will be glad to know that there were two of them. Your ggrandfather, George Washington Stobaugh was born 1-20-1856 and did, indeed, marry Nancy Bartlett. From what I have learned, though, he was not the son of Samuel Adams Stobaugh; did not have those particular sisters (though he did have a sister named Martha Patsy Stobaugh who married Wiley Cariker; but Dr. James Tate did not raise him (see 1880 Census Pope County - George and his wife Nancy are living with James and Lavinia Tate, but no where else did I find George connected with the Tates.) Here is what I have pieced together - George's father was Annanias Stobaugh, married to Nancy Riley. Annanias was a brother of Samuel Adams Stobaugh, though, so both George's are cousins. Annanias and Nancy had the following children: Andrew J., b. 1845; Louisa R., b. Jan 1848, married to George L. Rodgers in 1867, Lucy J. b. 1849; George W. (married Nancy Bartlett); Martha Elizabeth "Patsy" married Wiley Abraham Cariker on 3-2-1879; and Eliza C. b. about 1855. I have never found all of these children with these parents on any census but the 1850 Van Buren Co. (independence tp.) This is why it was so hard to track down their parentage. But, Annanias did fight in the Civil War (Co. B 1st Ark Inf USA) and in fact died 7 Jan 1865 in Clinton. I ordered a military record of Annanias Stobaugh, (the one says "Stobaugh, Annanias.......guardian Josephus S. Poe". This group of documents are dated in 1877, when Nancy had Mr. Poe appointed as guardian for Martha, Eliza and G. W. Josephus Poe was a county clerk in Pope Co. His daughter, I believe, married a Bartlett - Cyrus, I think. Anyway, I have those documents and will be happy to send you copies. Also, on the website of Van Buren County, I have posted all my Stobaugh info (www.rootsweb.com/~arvanbur/)
If you will email me at dstobaugh@centurytel.net, I can send copies to you.
Paula

Robert if you will send me your e-mail address I can add to your information on the ancestrial line of the Stobaughs. My gg grandfather was Isaac who was the father of the Rueban that you mention. My g grandfather was Rueban's younger brother Kenos. His daughter Sarah was my grandmother. The PA source is the original immigrant who came to PA in 1752. He and at least five of his children migrated to Virginia after the Rev War. Descendents migrated to Indiana and Kentucky. Very interested in the information on Rueban since I could not find him after his marriage in Missouri. E-mail me if you are interested in more details. B in Kansas

Re: Stobaugh Family History ... Nodaway Co., MO

I have no current information on Iva but I believe that the Jacob you mention was the son of Jacob Stobaugh and Ursula Emmons. They migrated from Virginia to Putnam Co, Indiana along with Jacob's brother James William and his father Abraham. Abraham died in Putnam Co in 1836 and was buried on a farm owned at that time by the Gorham family. His grave has been lost. Abraham was honored as a Rev war Vet. Info noting this is on a plack in the county seat. Abraham' father immigrated to this county in Oct 23, 1752 in Philadelphia,I have never found anything on Mother Stobaugh but they had at least 5 children, including Abraham, who migrated with him from PA to Virginia.
Back to Jacob, he migrated to Nodaway Co MO along with his brother in law. Oddly enough they took up residence not far from another branch of the family that had migrated from Kentucy. If this sounds like something that might interest you, email me directly @ redrobin_67003@yahoo.com.
and I will be happy to help in any way.
You wouldn't have any information about Ann Marie (Maria?) would you? Because I am directly related to her. But she supposedly wasn't Isaac's daughter.

Ann Marie (Anna Maria?) Stobaugh?

My great great grandma Ann M Stobaugh was born around 1840, add or take 5 years in Kentucky. She was supposedly born in Lawrence County. I looked up the 1840 census of Lawrence County. And there was a Henry Stobaugh there, whom was married to "Hiley Moore" according to marriage records for that county. So I want to assume that Henry and Hiley were Ann's parents. But Ann traveled later to Platte County, Missouri with other Stobaugh's and her mother according to what my grandma heard from her grandpa who saw Ann's mother, that Ann's mother was full blooded native american.

If anyone has any information that could help me, please reply or email me at rockstar_chick87@yahoo.com

Thank you!
