stobaugh bible

My grandfather recently passed away and when going through his estate my mother found a family bible that had lots of stobaugh names and dates. There is a message inside that states its from great grandmother Hilda Davis. The list appears to be concerning James stobaugh (13 april 1800) and Margret Gorham (13 dec 1801) and their children. Any information I could receive would be helpful. i would also like to know how this family is connected to the Cates family.

Stobaugh Family History

I am gathering information for a web site for all the Stobaugh's that descend from Johnan Henry Stobaugh. Arrived 1792 in Philidelphia, PA. He and five of his children moved to Montgomery County, VA after the Rev War. Most of the boys and his son-in-law served in one or another of the battles before they moved. Several have DAR records. Please reply with family histories if you are interested in contributing to this web site. I really want this to be a FAMILY effort. BARB in KS

I am putting together a web site of Stobaugh's and would like to include any research anyone would care to share with the rest of the family. Just e-mail me at redrobin_67003@yahoo.com and I would be happy to answer any questions. I still need more answers to Stobaugh's in Iowa and Illinois, and of course Missouri since so many of the branchs migrated there. Also I would like to talk to any of the children/grandchildren of John and Virginia Ferguson Stobaugh
who lived for a time in Grant County Oklahoma. Does anyone know where she is buried? I descend from Abraham through his oldest son Henry. My 2x great grandparents were Isaac and Elizabeth Williams Stobaugh who came to Missouri before the Civil War and owned land in Andrews and Platte Counties.

Ann Marie (Anna Maria?) Stobaugh?

My great great grandma Ann M Stobaugh was born around 1840, add or take 5 years in Kentucky. She was supposedly born in Lawrence County. I looked up the 1840 census of Lawrence County. And there was a Henry Stobaugh there, whom was married to "Hiley Moore" according to marriage records for that county. So I want to assume that Henry and Hiley were Ann's parents. But Ann traveled later to Platte County, Missouri with other Stobaugh's and her mother according to what my grandma heard from her grandpa who saw Ann's mother, that Ann's mother was full blooded native american.

If anyone has any information that could help me, please reply or email me at rockstar_chick87@yahoo.com

Thank you!

They are listed as neighbors in the 1850 census of West Union, Fayette Co. IA. They were born 11/10/1819 and 12/5/1820 in Virginia respectively. They may be the children of John & Margaret Stobaugh. I have a few more details if it helps narrow things down. Please contact me if you have any info or leads.

I've just stumbled accross the Stobart segment of this message board and am delighted to hear that there are so many Stobarts in this corner of the globe. I am a Stobart and was born in England (I came out to California two years ago). My father's family are from the north of England (Darlington). I was born in the south and there are VERY few Stobarts there (literally one or two families). I'm afraid I know very little of the Stobart origins but would love to know what you have learned. I suspected they originated in Scotland... there are a few more Stobarts in the north than the south. If you have any origin information, please pass it on! Thanks!

Married to Nettie Maddox, killed in a railroad accident in 1906 (I think). He would be my great grandfather (my mother's mother's Dad). I believe he was born in Ponca, Nebraska around 1870. I've been told that he was an orphan on one of the orphan trains into Iowa, I don't know that for sure. Located him in the 1880 census as the son of Jacob Thomas of Otter Creek Township,Center Point, Linn, Iowa . Also have found Stobaugh's and Thomas's living in the same township in the 1870 census. Anyone having ANY information on Elbert Stobaugh would be greatly appreciated. I'm sort of stuck with him.

Dear Robert Edward, I'm delighted to hear from you. Your ancestor Rubin, was the oldest child of Isaac and Elizabeth Stobaugh, married Nancy Alloway and I found that they had William and Edward. Rubin was the oldest of eight children and was born in Kentucky before the family moved Missouri. I would be delighted to talk with you further since I lost track of Rubin and his family shortly after Edward was born. My ggrndfather was Rubin's second to youngest brother Kenos Francis who also settled in Oklahoma during the Strip run in Grant county. Kenos and Mattie moved back to Missouri in their late 50's. They are buried in Davis Chapel Cemetery just east of Deerborn. Issac's father was killed in Tennessee not long after Isaac was born. He married Elizabeth there in 1832.
Henry, Issac's father was the son of Abraham Stobaugh who moved from Pennsylvania with his father and siblings after the Revolutionary War. Abraham and all of his brothers served in the R. War. Abraham is buried with honors in 1832, his grave in Putnam County, Indiana is lost but a plaque lists him along with other R. War vets is posted in the courthouse.
Please contact me, I would really love to have any details you would like to share about your family. your 'cuz' Barb in KS.

Stobaugh

I finally got around to looking at the Stobaugh message board and am so happy to find our family. I am a great granddaughter of Alex Stobaugh. Parts that were familiar to me was that James and Catherine Stobaugh were his parents. I also knew the names of his brothers and sisters, but didn't know their dates, etc. Also know that Alexander has middle initial J. His children were George W., Bertie Elsie, and Maude Elizabeth Stobaugh. Alex was buried in Berryville, Arkansas. If anyone has anymore info, I would be very appreciative for your help. Thanks again.
James Stobough, b.1835, Va.(Parents, b.VA.)
brother:
John R/K Stobaugh, b.Va. 1831.

John is listed as the foster-father of Lee Stobaugh, b. abt, 1884.
Lee was b. into the Tharp/Thorps, and lost both parents. His siblings were reared by different families.

I have noticed a couple of ref. to Tharp on this message board, and wonder if they connect to Lee, thru his parents or grandparents.

Would be interested in the parents and siblings of John and James Stobaugh, and any ref to the Tharp/Thorps.

Regards,

Jan

Stobaugh Ancestry

Barb- read that you had some researchers who have been looking into the Stobaughs. My husband's group is said to have migrated into Arkansas by way of Tenn. and PA. We cannot find his grandfather's name to do anymore from here, so I will need some help. The father of George Washington Stobaugh died when Geo. was only 3. Then, his mother and sisters died in a house fire. That left young George and his only surviving sister, Martha A. to go live with an uncle they all called Uncle "Shep". His name was Edmond Shephard Stobaugh and his family lived around Center Ridge, Ar. in Van Buren County; they all called the area, The Gulf.
If you have any ideas that could help, please let me know.
Thanks - Paula
