They made ore cars for the mines, but refusing to employ union labor, the union miners would not handle their cars and the Globe Foundry passed out of existence.
Bert Stockwell, Takomo, Washington

I am presently researching my mother, Hilda Stockwell's family tree, but am very new to this. I have a few gaps and would like to contact any relatives of Bert Stockwell, my great grandfather Clifford's brother.
Bert was born about 1868 and his family emigrated from England to America about 1901. As far as I know, he had 2 children, Harry and Doris.
In 1934 he came back to England to organise the family into reclaiming their fortune. At that time he was President of the Railroad Wheel Dog Company in Takomo, Washington. Whilst back in England I understand he remarried and decided to stay.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Albert H. Stockwell of Ashtabula, Ohio in 1876

Albert H. Stockwell, age 49, (married) of Ashtabula, Ohio is listed among the dead in a train accident.

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Train No. 5, The Pacific Express left a snowy Erie, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of December 29, 1876. As The Pacific Express plowed through the snow and crossed a bridge over the Ashtabula River, about 100 yards from the railroad station at Ashtabula, Ohio, the passengers heard a terrible cracking sound. In just seconds, the bridge fractured and the train plunged 70 feet into a watery abyss.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Ashtabula Bridge Disaster." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce
http://home.alltel.net/arhf/bridge.htm

Finding US Stockwells

Most Stockwells in the United States trace their families back to either Quinton Stockwell (married in Medfield, MA, in 1666), William Stockwell (married in Ipswich, MA, 1685), or James Stockwell (living in Haggerstown, MD, in 1763). Extensive genealogies of these three families have been published or are being prepared for publication. But there have been other persons bearing this name who came to the United States over the nearly 400 years since 1619 (a known number of 171 short family lines and individuals). A listing of these other Stockwells has now been posted on the Stockwell Family Association web site in a form that is downloadable as a PDF file. If you have been searching, without success, for the ancestry of someone named Stockwell who lived in America, you might wish to consult this list by going to the Stockwellfamilysite.com.

Graduated at the High School in the city of Port Huron, Mich., in 1861; taught school winters, and worked as a sailor on the Great Lakes, summers, until he was married, in 1868, after which he gave his whole time to teaching. In the winter of 1875-76, while acting as Principal of the Union School, at Hadley, Mich., and Superintendent of Schools in that county, his health failed, and he was compelled to resign, and seek a change of climate. After spending the summer in Colorado, he came to Onalaska, and took charge of the school there, in September, 1876; he remained Principal of the Onalaska School until the spring of 1878, when he was appointed County Superintendent of Schools, to which position he has since been twice re-elected.
Leander AND "Paddy" Stockwell

Hi again--Look what I recently received from a major Stockwell researcher when I questioned the data for Leander "Paddy" Stockwell! It is relevant to others’ research so I want to share it:
"Paddy is on the James Stockwell Line:
James-James-Jesse-Patrick (Paddy):
Patrick (Paddy) Stockwell son of Jesse and Sarah
(King) Stockwell. Jesse and Sarah married December
28, 1796, Nelson Co. Kentucky. The had: Elizabeth,
Michael, Patrick (Paddy), Lucinda and a Female child.
Paddy married Mary Eleanor Shane, Abt. 1835."

The rest is already well-documented: "They had
two children: Mary Jane Stockwell, b. Sept. 30, 1836,
Louisville, Kentucky and Moses P. b. May 12, 1839,
Louisville, Kentucky. Mary Jane married October 3,
1851, Whiteside Co., Illinois, Andrew (Charles)
Zornes, Jr. She married (2) Benjamin McMullen, August
25, 1867. Mary Jane died April 11, 1896, Waterville,
Douglas Co., Washington, buried Badger Mountain
Cemetery, Waterville, Douglas Co., Washington."
(This is my husband's line).

Thanks for all your help--your online info helped make this happen! :)

Sarah Jane Stockwell, b.Ohio, d.Iowa

Sarah Jane Stockwell was born in Ohio in 1863 according to census records. At some point she moved to Iowa and married a man with the surname Knapp, not necessarily in that order. She had two daughters by him, Hazel b. 1891 and Mabel b. 1894. On the 1900 census she is living with John Leonard and his brother Cornelius as a servant in Belmond, IA with her daughters. She has two more children Rose, b. 1901 and Harry, b. 1903 with John Leonard. John died in 1906 and she died in 1916, both of tbc. I have looked for information in the census in Ohio and there isn't a really good match. If any one has knowledge of this person, I would like to further this part of my lineage.
Hello, I am trying to find a John Engers Stockwell. I'm afraid I have very little information. He was probably born around 1917 and was, I believe, in the American Airforce and based in England (near Stamford, Lincs?) for a while during the second world war. He may have come from San Francisco. I would be very happy to hear from anyone who could help me in my search. Thankyou, regards, Sarah.

I have written to the NRPC but unfortunately they could not find out any information.

Hi all -- I'm searching for descendents of George S. Stockwell, born in 1818, and Mary Webber Bourne, born about 1822. The couple were married Aug. 9, 1840 in Middleborough, Mass. They had five children, my great, great grandfather being one of them (Frank Howard). They traveled to Idaho, Kansas and Virginia, perhaps after the Civil War. Two of their sons were killed while fighting for the Union.

I've been unable to find information about their deaths and so any help is appreciated.

Best,
Jamie Stockwell
South Texas native; Washington, DC resident

STOCKWELLs of Ham, Wiltshire

I am hoping to find out more about "my" STOCKWELLs. I have Emma STOCKWELL, born c.1833 in Ham, Wiltshire. Her father is Robert STOCKWELL (no dates as yet), mother Louisa HEDGES (b1805) of Hungerford, Berks. Emma had at least one sibling, Frances b. c1846.

Emma went on to marry my biggest family tree problem, George Henry Hanson and one of their children was my Great Grandfather. A long story, too long for this board.

I have visited Ham, and thought it beautiful, but tiny, and therefore I am convinced that any other Stockwells living there are probably linked in some way or other.

Any takers?

Carole Botwright
Bildeston, Suffolk UK

Stockwell - Harrington connection? Vermont

Hopefully someone with enough Stockwell information can point me in the right direction! William Harrington (b. 1797 in Ireland) was married to "Lydia" (born about 1796 in New Hampshire). They lived in Sheldon, Franklin County, Vermont from about 1820 until their deaths. The census records indicate that both of Lydia's parents were born in Massachusetts. I have been told that Lydia's last name was Stockwell and her father was Ebenezer, but haven't found anything to confirm this information. The few entries I have found regarding Ebenezer Stockwell and Abi Lee Stockwell do not list a daughter Lydia. Help, please!!

Thanks to everyone for any assistance!

David Stockwell 1813 NY/WI

I am trying to find the parents and other relatives of my ancestor David Stockwell. He was supposedly born in Washington Co, NY in June 1813 and died Dec. 29, 1889 in Two Rivers, WI. He married Lucinda Taylor, who was born Feb. 19, 1813 in Vermont and died Mar. 22, 1880 in Two Rivers. Most of their kids seem to have died young, so I am worried that my family may be the only surviving branch and thus no one else may be looking for them. I am hoping there is a descendant of a brother or sister out there who might have them in their family tree. For the record, all of the children I know about are: Eliza Jane Stockwell (married John Phillips), Mary Ann Stockwell (married James Magee), Caroline Stockwell (died at 16), William H. Stockwell (married E. Augusta Grade), James B. Stockwell (died at 19), and John Stockwell. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Elizabeth Stockwell/Daniel Kinney-Kenney

I have just found my direct connection to Elizabeth Stockwell, and Daniel Kinney, who married in Sutton, MA in 1727.

I do not have the "Stockwell Genelogy" book, but in trying to trace Elizabeth, it seems no one is sure who her parents were. I've seen William Stockwell & Sarah Lumbart, but I've also seen William Stockwell and Elizabeth Shaw?

Can anyone tell me if this Elizabeth's parents have been proven, and if so, who they were?

Thanks to all,
Lisa Z

Lester Washburn Stockwell was adopted by the Henderson family as a small boy. I believe he had sisters (Stockwell), would appreciate information about them and their ancestors. He was my husbands grandfather. We are Henderson by name, Stockwell by blood. I have all info about his ancestors, our family, from his marriage on. Please let me hear from anyone who might know of his sisters or brothers. I believe his mother remarried after death of husband and her name became Glendenning (sp), believe there were more children from that marriage. Would appreciate any info.
Thank you!
Theresa Henderson
Bay City, Texas
hfi-theresa@comwerx.com

Looking for ancestry of Elisha Stockwell, b. abt. 1790 in NY. He married Elizabeth E McEachron in Washington County, NY bef. 1820, prob. closer to 1810. I have more data on their descendants which I am happy to exchange.

In 1790 there were three Stockwell heads of household in Washington County, NY, Abraham, David & Levi. Since Elisha was married in Washington County there is at least a reasonable chance that he was the son of one of these three, but that is speculation.

Am having a terrible time locating John Stockwell Jr; born 1799 in Royalston, MA the son of John Stockwell Sr b 1762 in Sutton, MA
John Stockwell Sr removed from MA and settled in Hartford, Washington Co, NY. John Jr apparently was there at some point; however am having a terrible time in locating the JR in an 1850 census, with wife Lucy Gale.
Their children apparently were and NOT necessarily in the correct order:
Henry b 1829; David; Dennis; Daniel; Almira; Electa b 1834, who married Edward Cook; Eunice; Janet; Amanda, b 1839; and Laura, b 1830 and married William Saville & stayed in Hartford all her life.
Those with birthdates attached I've been able to trace, or start to trace & found them in the Washington County, NY 1850 census.
It just seems so odd that John Stockwell, Jr & wife Lucy; John being aged 50 or 51 yrs old, I've been UNABLE to locate.
According to the 1850 Index, there were approximately 26 John Stockwells in all the states; I've checked the ones in Vermont; NY; Mass and NH and NO LUCK SO FAR.

If anyone has any clues for me, I'd certainly appreciate a clue where to look.

I would be very happy to hear from anyone who could help me in my search. Thankyou, regards, Sarah.

KELLOGG, FOSTER
I am trying to determine the parentage of Eunice FOSTER, b. 19 August, 1759 who married Major Ezekiel KELLOGG, 1777. I believe she may have been the daughter of Amos FOSTER and Eunice STOCKWELL of New Salem. The proximity and dates for these lead me to believe this is the case, but I've seen no proof. Can anyone cite a source to prove this?

Lee Carlson
lcarlson@hvc.rr.com

Sarah J. Stockwell and Edmund A. Blanchard

Looking for the parents of this Sarah J. Stockwell. I belileve she was born onSept. 26. 1833. She married Edmund A. Blanchard on June 19, 1859 in Readsboro, Vt (according to info on the internet) but no one has parents for her listed. Sarah and Edmund were living (I believe) in the same house as Thomas and Phelicta Stockwell, in the 1860 census. Thomas and Phelicta are listed as paupers and Edmund is a peddler. Son of Thomas Lyman is living next door with his family. On a hunch that Sarah J. Blanchard may have been the daughter of Thomas Stockwell I did put that name into Ancestry and found her but no parents. Is there anyone who lives in Vermont and would be with-in a short drive of the Whitingham town hall and able to look up info on Sarah J. Stockwell's birth for me. She could be one of the unknown children of Thomas.
Thank you for any help you can give.
See you all soon.
Bon
Paddy/Leander and Moses

Our family lore has him named "Paddy" from Kentucky and Ohio, and I am the original source of that name shown on the internet records at FamilySearch.org, Genealogy.com, Ancestry.com, and OneGreatFamily.com. But other researchers put him as Leander, the son of Josiah of Massachusetts. I have a problem with that, but no proof--
can anyone help?
Censuses show there were several Stockwells in OH and KY, including a Josiah in Ky in 1810 and in Ohio in 1830, during which times the other Josiah was in Massachusetts. This eastern Josiah's Leander was in in NH in 1840, when "Paddy" was clearly in Ohio, and in Mass. in 1860, when "Paddy" was apparently long-dead. Marriage info for Leander and Mary Elenor Shaine/Shane has him from Illinois.
I have an 1840 marriage for Mary Elenor Shane/James Delay which connects to the Stockwells by showing that Paddy/Leander's son Moses Stockwell (brother of my Mary Jane) was definitely her son from her first marriage. But I just can't accept the Massachusetts ancestry. Can anyone out there untangle this ? Thanks--Sharon
