My great great grandfather was Jean Stoffel who emigrated to Groghan in 1847? They came from Alsace Lorraine, France. The family ome is still standing. In the Groghan Cemmetary there are two Stoffel grave sites. I am in Denver, Colorado and have a pretty good genaology from France. My father was a Stoffel born in Farmerville Station, NY. We have some relatives in Arizona.

Hello,
I am looking for any information on the Peter Stoffel family who resided in Luxomburg twnshp, Stearns County in the late 1800's-early 1900's. I am specifically looking for information on Peter's wife, whom I believe was a sister to my great grandmother Barbara(Tanata)Miller (Muller). I had corresponded with a Nick Stoffel many years ago regarding this, but I seem to have lost the address and any information in the emails. I have found the obituary of my Gr Grandma and it states that one sister survives her, Mrs. Catherine Stoffel. In the plat map I have, there's a Peter Stoffel with adjoining land to Phillip and Barbara Miller. Wondering if anyone has any information on any of these people?

Elvira Waugh, born 01 May 1862 in Clay County, WV; died 11 May 1951 in Denver, CO. She was the daughter of Alexander Sinclair Waugh and Frances Cochran.

Alexander Sinclair Waugh, born 30 Nov 1813 in Pocohontas, VA; died 1879 in Nicholas County, WV. He was the son of Samuel Waugh and Anne McGuire. He married Frances Cochran.

Frances Cochran, born 04 Sep 1825; died 05 Oct 1905. She was the daughter of David James Cochran and Elizabeth Corby.

Residence: 1860, Not Stated, Clay, Virginia

Child of Alexander Waugh and Frances Cochran is:
Elvira Waugh, born 01 May 1862 in Clay County, WV; died 11 May 1951 in Denver, CO; married William Thomas Stoffel 23 Feb 1882 in Waugh's Mills, WV.

My g-grandfather was William Thomas Stoffel, b. 13 Sept 1857, who married Elvira Waugh in Waugh's Falls on 23 Feb 1882, West Virginia and ultimately moved to Denver CO, not California.

Hello Chris,
My husband's name is Ron Tacheny. He and his brother Art went to visit with your dad and looked at the collection. Since you stated that there are a lot of letters from your grandma Tacheny/Stoffel, I am curious, if she has ever talked in her letters about her parents and grandparents? What does your dad recall? I am doing the familytree for the Tacheny family and have yet to research a lot in Belgium, since the tracks stop currently with an Oliver Tacheny who may have been born in Gives, Belgium, since that is where his son Jean Pierre married. Jean Pierre was a brother to Leonard Tacheny, the trunk, so-to-speak of the American Tacheny family. The others remained in Belgium and Luxemburg.

Would love to hear back.

My husband descends from one of Abraham's brothers. The information on the Stoffel line that I and many contributors have compiled in in this site......go to the Pre-1800's page and click on the tree under Abraham Stoffel and wife Elizabeth. He's next to the last (Issac) child of Johann Henrich and Christianna Stoffel.

I know this is late getting to you, subscription renew until beginning of 07. Anna M. Stoffels b. Abt 1874, Oneida, NY d. 08 Apr 1952, Albany, NY m. William C. Strube 01 Jul 1896, Albany, NY. Her father (per marriage register), Hubart Stoffels and mother, Anna C. Brehm (?). This is all I know, I have hit a dead end. Hope we can help each other out.

I wish that I did have more info, but at the moment I do not. We think her mother may have been Anna also but not sure. I might have more info after 7/16. We are going to a wedding and might be able to talk to some of the other grandchildren as all of her children are now dead. Really only know where they were living when and after they got married. Let me know if you find anything.

I still don't have a solid lead on her parents' names, but the 1910 & 1920 census says that she was born in NY and both of her parents were born in Germany. Her children are William C. Strube, Edward A. Strube and Anna M. Strube (my husbands grandmother) I have their information to present. The 1900 census shows her parents being born in NY. Also has her husbands last name spelled wrong (Strubee) and on top of that the person who indexed it spelled it wrong again (Struber).

Your Grandfather Mathias himself was the grandson of Gertrud Adams, born in Kennfus/Bad Bertrich Germany ~1801. Gertrud was the oldest sister of my great-great-grandfather Nicholas Adams who lived in Volo. You may be aware that two of Mathias's brothers, Joe and Martin, married two Rosing sisters, respectively Mary and Elizabeth, who were grandaughters of Nicholas Adams-in other words, the sisters were second cousins of the brothers.

Thanks for posting the info on your Dad's branch- its the first I've seen on your Grandfather's family. I'd be glad to share what I know of the Adams/Stoffel/Rosing/Schumacher families of McHenry and Lake Counties.

Would Peter's wife be Margaret Schwab/Schwaab/ Schwalb? I have a Margaret Schwab that married a Stoffel in 1886/1887. I do not know the first name of the Stoffel only that he died and Margaret remarried in Mar 1888. It is very possible that there was a child from the Stoffel marriage as her first child of second marriage is listed as the second child born.

Abram & Betsy Stoffel moved to Washington County, VA in 1800. A son Peter Stoffel (Sr) was born July 14, 1804 near Bristol. His grand paretns were J. Henry & Christina Stoffel. Peter married Nancy Steel and lived in or near Bristol, TN. They moved to Randolph and then Jackson County, IL. I am looking for information on Peter's parents and grand parents.

Shortly after I posted the query we made a trip to the farm near Benton, Illinois and returned Sunday, August 28, 2005 so this helps explain the lack of a reponse.

I have fairly good information on the Peter Stoffel Sr. family (12 children in all) and my grand father was one of those Williiam Hansaw Stoffel born April 20, 1851 in Jackson County Illinois. Would you be interested in me providing information his family tree????

I have alot of information about the family. Mary's real maiden name was Pfanner. I believe they had 9 children, John, Mary, Stephen, Louise, Elizabeth, Minerva, Charles, William and Caroline. William is my great grandfather. I actually have pictures of Stephen and Mary. The Stephen you are referring to was married to Fannie Jarrett. He was born abt. 1857 in Ohio.
