Dear Michele, See my above message. I have two websites for you to peruse: (www.genealogy.ro) is good for Romania genealogy and (www.primsb.ro/internet/en/start.html) will give you a history of Sibiu. I found these two websites last week when I was trying to find Deag. I really didn't think it exsisted anymore, but I found it. It's not too far from Sibiu, so our Stoic'as may very well be related. I am researching our romanian roots for my mother. The names I am searching are Hadareg, Serbezan, Stoica, Dordea, Hang, Castia. I will be happy to trade the limited information I have for any infor you have. Let's see if we have any links. Please email me at (mknightorpdinges@worldnet.att.net) at home or at work(mdinges@adamsmark.com) if that is easier for you. Thanks, hope to hear from you soon!! Michelle Dinges

My ancestors in this family were Nastasia married to John Dordea, her sister was Rafira, their parents were Gligor Stoica and Maria Castia. Does anyone have any links to this family? Nastasia and John would've been my gr-gr-grandparents so we are looking for marriage and birth dates in the late 19th century. I am also looking for Hadareg's, Serbezan's, from the Sibiu/Deag area. I will trade info. Thanks, Michelle Dinges

Hi Janet. My Stoica is Gligor. His wife was Maria Castia. Their Children were Nastasia and Rafira. Nastasia Married John Dordea. Their Children were Maria Dordea(1885-1958), George and Anna. Maria married John Hedrick (Hadareg) (1886-1957) on 8-30-1906. John Hedrick was my ggrandfather. His parents were Ioan Hadareg and Nastasia Serbezan. They came from Deag, which is near Sibiu, and still exists, I guess. Do you know if your Eli had a relative named Gligor? Our Hadareg's were in Canton Ohio before some of them came to Kokomo , Indiana. Unfortunatley I have very little more info. but I will be willing to share. I'd like to hear from you. Thanks, Michelle Dinges

Have you copies of Naturalization records or passport info? This may help. How about a family bible.......does anyone have the Stoica bible? I would love to get copies of pages with family info on it! I'm trying to get this together for Cheryl's children...If I don't hear from you I can ask her to call Ray ~ look forward to hearing from you! myegge@earthlink.net

Stoica's of Sibiu, Romania

Hi Janet - Yes, I looked through a white page listing in Romania and realized that it was Sibiu - There are many sub-divisions of Sibiu as well (for lack of a better term) - I wish I knew more other that 'a farm near Sibiu' is where Constanine STOICA was born as in first message. I'm awaiting more info from Constantine's son (Ray)- will certainly keep you posted - there are numerous Stoica's in Sibiu - I have all of the names and addresses copied but have decided against sending out 100+ international letters to find the right one - especially since they won't speak English. Take care,
thanks for info - Michele

Stoica

Don't have very much detail on my Grandfather's emigration date; however, the town you've listed is spelled correctly as: SIBIU. My Grandfather, Eli Stoica, had many brothers/sisters. He was born in a small village outside of Sibiu...the village name was: Mohu. I visited a 2nd cousin in Romania many years ago who lived in Sibiu. He took me to my Stoica relatives in Mohu who did (still) run a farm with cows, goats, etc. They still lived as in the 1800's complete with horse-drawn hay carts on the dirt roads as well as the paved roads, sharing driving lanes with automobiles.

My Grandfather, Eli Stoica, married Maria Baba from a small nearby village, Vestem. She was an educated woman in that she had been allowed to learn reading & writing. Eli & Maria married in Romania, had 2 children there, Maria and Eli. In the early 1900's, my Grandfather Eli, emigrated to USA to earn his fortune & return to Romania.......he worked on the Panama Canal as well as in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. My Grandmother, thinking he had deserted the Family, arranged for her own passage to USA to find Eli! (sounds like a soap opera.) Grandmother had left her 2 children with capable relatives until her safe return to Romania. She & Eli hooked up again, settled in a village in Thompson CT, and had 2 more children, John and Nicholas. My Grandmother's intent was to return to Romania to be back with her children. She never did get back there & would cry about her 2 children "left behind" constantly. She always talked about going back to her homeland.

I think her son, Eli, died during WWII.....how or why, I don't know. Her daughter, Maria, married a wonderful Greek man, had 2 daughters, but she passed away from heart failure in the early 1960's.

That's all for now. Please let me hear word from someone! Many thanks.....
