The Stoker religious affiliation has been a blank. The few marriage records I have found do not tell or list Minister of the Gospel. It is not until my great grandparents Stoker that I do know their religion, RLDS, joining it in the 180's or 1890's.

Gary

I am not sure how this works so if this is a repeat, please forgive me, better twice than not at all. I do not know the maiden name of "Eve" who married Baltzer Stoker. To his immigration. He arrived in Phiadelphia 12 Seo 1750 on the ship Priscilla, also signed the oath of allegience eto the king of England as required on the same day. ref is F148.E3 1967 BYU library. "names of foreigners who took the oath of allegience to Penn 1727-1775. Oh, his name on the ship "Johann Baltzer Stockel". His son's name was John significant I think. There were no female names listed so I assume either Eve came later or they met and married here.
On the religion issue, a good researcher suggested checking churchs in the PA area of that timv as frequently pastors game immigrants letters of introduction, I have been unable to do that but might be a way to find where he came from.
SHIRVTS@AOL.COM Shirley Vaughan

Gary, do you know what any of the descendants religions were/are? Catholic or Lutheran? The church that my Bolander's went to in the Fulga area of Germany in the 1600's/1700's still exists. That is where most of their records were.
Oh- I'm almost positive that my John W Stoker is the one that descends from Balzar, John, and brother to your William. Been putting all notes, email from others (you) in the line, sure looks like a match.
Seria

Gary I live in Salt Lake City. I may be going to the family history library on Friday. If I do, I'll see if I can find some emigration info on Balzar. Maybe he and Eve were married in Germany. Do we have any idea what religion this family was? A lot of records are kept by the churches (one way I found info on my Bolander line)
Seria

Sorry I did not realize that there is a Durham City John Stoker was born in Ryton, Durham County depending on which census you read and Mary Clough was born in Percy Main which is also Durham County. I feel that Northumberland is the correct place for my query as my Stoker family have lived in various parts of Northumberland and are still in Newcastle currently. But thank you for your suggestion.

I am looking for info on the Stoker family from or going further back from John Stoker born abt 1804 in Durham died abt 1873 in Durham he married Mary Clough born abt 1809 in Percy Main died abt 1874 in Durham. These Stokers were Coal Miners and it seemed to go from generation to generation until about 1900 when a Stoker went to America and my ancestor went to Rhodesia a few years in about 1918.
John Stoker gives different places of birth on each census. I looked for a baptism for him in Ryton Co. Durham but no go, same for Tynemouth which is where Percy Main falls. One of the census said Denton Burn which is in the Newburn parish. I found a John Stoker baptism there.

Newburn St. Michael and All Angels:

John Stoker, Denton Burn, born 7 Oct 1803, baptised 23 Oct 1803 the 4th son of John Stoker, pitman, native of Lanchester parish by his wife Jane Nicholson native of Ryton parish. Ryton is just across the river from Newburn

I could not find a Mary Clough/Cleugh/Clow baptism in Tynemouth, Northumberland

The marriage of John Stoker and Mary Cleugh was in Newcastle All Saints 21 July 1828.

I am looking around for baptisms of the children but really only have access to C of E records. So far nothing in Newcastle All Saints, Ryton Holy Cross, Tynemouth Christ Church, Newburn St Michael and All Angels.

Janis

Re: Stoker of Centralia, IL.

I am curious if you ever found information on the Stokers of Centralia. My ggrandmother was Harriett Eoline (Eline) Stoker Marshall, also from Centralia. I remember my mother, Eoline Harriett Marshall Harrington, speaking of two Stoker sisters that they would visit when visiting back in Centralia. The names Lillian and Mary sound familiar. I have just begun researching this limb of my tree. If you know Centralia and the Elmwood cemetery lore, the statue of Annie Marshall playing her violin and haunting the cemetery is all over the internet. Annie was the daughter of Harriett Eoline Stoker Marshall. The statue is the Marshall Stoker cemetery monument which was placed by Annie's parents after her untimely death at the age of 1, I believe from diptheria. Unfortunately, the Elmwood cemetery has not been digitized and put on line. I believe that there are many Stokers buried there. I also recall my mother speaking of Stoker relatives in Kankakee, IL. I hope to get back to Centralia some day but no longer have any living relatives there. I would truly appreciate any information that you may have gleaned and I would be willing to share any informaiton that I have or develop.

Thank you.

HAROLD RUPERT ADAMS & MATILDA STOKER

Hi
I understand that my Great Grandfather Harold William Adams, born about 1846, was married to Matilda Stoker, born about 1846, who was Abraham 'Bram' Stoker's sister. Harold William and Matilda apparently had four children Cyril, Julien, Phyllis and Harold Rupert. Harold Rupert, born about 1882, was my maternal Grandfather. Can anyone advise me on how best to retrieve information on Harold William Adams' ancestors whom I assume were born in Ireland.
Thank you
Hugh

My Great Grandfather was Frederick Stocker (pronounced Stoker) and probably spelled that way to start with. He and his wife lived in Plattville, Wisconsin. They had many children with several of them dying young. There was Anne, Gertrude, Mary C. Ellen Nora, Clara, Fred, George, Edward. Catherine died at 42 years in childbirth and he raised the children all alone. He was a shoemaker. Sorry it took so long to answer your request. I'm still learning my way around ancestry.com and I just found your message. Becky

I have many interesting pictures of the fmily...some on ancestry.com under their names. If you think we're related maybe, you'd find them interesting. Becky

I am researching Stokers (James>Joseph>George Washington>James>George Washington>?) that trace back to Boone and Hendricks counties in Indiana, early 1800's. I found a book on Google Books "Tyra Stoker and related lines of Boone and Hendricks counties, Indiana" by Mary Ellen Cole Mattingly (Unknown Binding - 1987) with a very limited preview on line. Does anyone know where I can find this book, I am not having any luck locating it? I believe it has information that may help me in my search.
