Hello Distant Relatives!

Hello everyone, I am a 28 year old who is currently cataloging my family's ancestry. In my digging I found that we descended from the Stonebraker family line (among others), which brought me here. So hello!

For those curious, I am from the Weir family line. John Weir married Susannah Stonebraker in 1845. Most of my family lives in central Indiana, though I've recently moved to Harrisburg, PA. Interestingly much of my lineage seems to come from out this way. This has been a fascinating trip down my family line. Most of us assumed we had strong Irish backgrounds, I don't think we realized how much Swiss and German we had in us.

I would love to be able to find more info on the Stonebraker history if anyone would be so obliged. Hope to hear from you!

Here is the lineage I'm constructing for my family for those interested in tracing my Stonebraker history. http://kingweir.tribalpages.com

Aaron

Hi all, I am new here too.
One of the person's I would
like info on is an Ellen Stonebraker died Nov. 1874 in
Piatt Co. Ill.
She could possibly be related or married once to William Stonebrakerwho
died around 1892, as
they were looking for his relatives for a pension.
William was once married to a Wilhelmina Kondelfer Stonebraker, living in Nebraska
and had a niece named Jane McDonald. Also could have
been related to a Seth Stonebraker. Kondelfer was her
first husband's name.

Hello everybody!
It's me again, and this time I have pictures!

The first one is Valentine's headstone, which reads:
"V. Stonebraker Agd 73 y 4m. & 26d."

The picture 'Burket1' is a view from Burket Cemetary. The closest headstone is Valentine's. On the right, the next closest headstone, is Abraham Moore, brother of Valentine's wife, Sophia.

Burket2 is another angle. VS's is the crooked one on the left. The next one to the right is AM's.

I will be putting more pictures in another message....

Emily

Joseph Stonebraker family-Louisa County, Iowa

I am researching the family of a Joseph Stonebraker who resided in Louisa County, Iowa during the 1870 and 1880 federal census and the 1885 Iowa State census. He was in Union Township in that county during 1880 and 1885..

Joseph was born about 1830 in Indiana and was married to a Margaret, who was also born in Indiana. They had two sons in Indiana, Francis and Franklin M, both born in Indiana. By 1885, Franklin was married to a Mary J. and living next door to his parents in Louisa County, Iowa.

On the three above mentioned census records, living with the Stonebrakers was a girl by the name of Margaret Dewire (Dwyer, Duire). In 1880, her relationship was given as daughter. Margaret is younger than both of the boys.

Margaret Dwyer was born in Iowa on March 4, 1865. Her parents were John Dwyer born in Ireland and Jane (possibly Margaret Jane) Bell(e) born in Iowa. She married Joseph Flynn on December 12,1885 at Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa. On their marriage license, signing that they could, indeed, get married and also as a witness was a Stonebraker. I couldn't make out the handwriting but I think it might have been Franklin, or Joseph. Joseph Flynn also was a resident of Union Township, Louisa County in 1885.

Joseph Flynn and Margaret Dwyer (Duire, Dewire) are my great-grandparents. I know nothing about Margaret's parents other than their names and birthplaces as shown on her marriage license. I would like to know the circumstances that caused her to be raised by the Stonebrakers.

It seems that this particular family of Stonebrakers went on to Page County, Iowa by 1900, which is consistent with Margaret Dwyer Flynn's first child's birthplace being given as Clarinda, Iowa.

Joseph and Margaret Flynn moved to Nebraska by 1893, I have them pretty well sorted out.

Thanks for any advice or information regarding the Stonebraker-Dewire situation. I would really like to know what happened!

Joni Vella

Sebastian Stonebreaker-Susanna Yeakley (Youghli-Deppen Myth)

My gggg-grandfather was John Jacob Yeakley (b. 1740), brother of George Yeakley (b. abt. 1737). George Yeakley's daughter, Susanna Yeakley, b. June 14, 1760, married Sebastian Stonebreaker, b. abt. 1755. Some folks think that George Yeakley's full name was George Yeakley Youghli or Juchli.

After years of rigorous study and research, including ship records, and Swiss records, and all kinds of microfilm there is no longer a shadow of a doubt that Benedict Youghli/Juchli/Juchli/Jugli was NOT the father of John Jacob and George Yeakley. According to Swiss records Benedict had a daughter Johanna, and a son Abraham. His wife's name was Magdalina Keusen. She stayed in Switzerland with the children when Benedict first came to the colonies. In records, both John Jacob and George's last name is Yeakley--no more, no less.

Also, the 'Counting Kindred' book has been proved wrong. George Yeakley, according to legal records, married Anna Laucks, and George Fegley married Anna Deppen.

I hope this doesn't upset your genealogical applecart too badly, but, for years there have been so many false notions put forth, so long, that many are now accepted as fact. They are simply not true.
I am looking for the parents and ancestors of a Samual B. Stonebraker that was born March 14 1818 in Maryland and married Harriet Nixon in Iowa Oct 24 1846. He died Nov 25, 1856 in Van Buren County, Iowa. I know he had three children: Frances, Mary B. and Samual Newton Stonebraker. I have also seen a source that said that said he was born in PA. Does anyone know anything about this Samual that can be of some help to me? Thank you

Stonebraker's in the Battle of Gettysburg

Hello, again, everyone!

My brother took a trip yesterday to Gettysburg, PA, where they have a monument to all of the PA residents who were in the Battle of Gettysburg. Among them:

A. Stonebraker
V. Stonebraker

Would anyone happen to know for certain who these two were? I suspect V. is Valentine, who was my g-grandfather's brother, and son of Valentine and Sophia (Moore) Stonebraker. He was in the 148th Regiment, was wounded at the battle of Po River, VA, 10 May, 1864, and was discharged w/ his unit in 1865. Does anyone know for certain if this is the same man on this Gettysburg monument?

Hope all of my cousins, regardless of distance in generations or miles, are doing well.

Always,
Emily

It lists her parents as Sebastian and Susanna Stonebraker, Rockingham County, VA. No other info is included.
Does anyone have information about this couple?

Stonebraker Cemetary names changes in PA

Hello to all!

I'd like to let everyone know of some discoveries I made this weekend. Those of you who descend from Hans Adam and/or his sons John and Valentine will especially be interested.

I travelled to Warrior's Mark Twp., PA and Colerain PA this weekend. In Warriors Mark, I found the cemetary where Valentine Stonebraker is buried, and found his grave. He is buried among the Moore's (his wife was Sophia Moore, but Sophia was nowhere to be found!!) The Moore's he was buried by: Elias, David, Margereta, Mary, Abraham, and Sarah. The first four all said they were the children of A&S Moore (presumably Abe and Sarah). Does anyone know exactly how Sophia is related to them?? (Sister? Aunt? Daughter?)

Anyway, in the Stonebraker's of America book, it lists this cemetary as the Methodist Episcopal Cemetary. This cemetary is now called Burket Cemetary.

Then, I travelled on down the road to Colerain, and found what once was Colerain Cemetary. Colerain Cemetary is now called Franklinville Cemetary. I could not find Hans Adam, unfortunately, but I found his son John, as well as some of John's children. In the Stonebraker's of America book, they are listed in the same cemetary as Hans Adam, so I know I was in the right place, but couldn't find him. Does anyone know of a cemetary directory? I'd like to go back up and take another look someday.

The cemetaries are easy to find. If anyone would like directions, let me know.

Emily

Greetings ~

Does anyone have a copy of Mary Ann Ward Brady's book "Ruchti, Deppen, Yeakley, Stonebraker, Fruits, Newkirk and Ward .... Maumee, Ohio 1982 ? ? ?

We are mainly interested in the section(s) covering the descendants of Sebastian and Susannah (Yeakle) Stonebraker. But would like to see a copy of the whole book if possible.

In the book The Stonebraker's in America, by Dr. & Mrs. Charles L. Eater, Jr. and Charles W. Morgan 1992 .... the author's state on page 112, that "the descendants of Sebastian and Susannah (Yeakle) Stonebraker have been nicely done by Mary Ann Ward Brady in her book ..... and will not be repeated here." :-(

Little did they realize that Mary's limited edition, now out of print, and very hard if not impossible to locate .... is a needed companion for many of this branch .... which is most likely missing upwards to 10 generations :-(

Can anyone help us in acquiring a copy of this book ? ? ? even contact info of how to reach the author of that publication, or who may have her records .... the printing
company has been of no help to us, so far :-(

Ken Hedgpeth ~ Arcadia, CA ~ USA
Admin. of the Stonebraker-L and D on RootsWeb
along with the Steinbrecher-L and D too !

Dear Russ,

I want to offer to send you the wills of two men. Both claim to be "the" George Yeakley. Russ, I took them to the Berks Co., Gen Society and left them for "experts" to look at. What I was told was that the question would never be solved by either of the wills and it is still up for grabs on which one. Some other kind of proof will be needed to prove this no mater what Herbert Yeakley would like to believe. God bless him for working so very hard on it though.
Linda--my mother was a Yeakley.

This is the obit of Jacob and Charity Stonebraker from the Crawfordsville Weekly Journal page 3 column 5. Feb 29 1872

Jacob Stonebraker and Charity his wife are dead. They both died on Tuesday morning Feb 20 (1872) within two hours of each other. There was but three months difference in their ages, being born in the summer of 1792. Had they lived a few more months longer they would have reached the ripe old old age of four score years. They had been married more than half a century, and have resided in this township over forty years. The old man's death was not unexpected,as he has been an invalid all Winter, but that of Aunt Charity was very sudden, she not being sick more than twelve hours. On Wednesday Feb 21, a large concourse of relatives and friends assembled, and with bowed and reverent heads buried this pair of worth pioneers in one wide deep grave
It was either Centre, Clearfield, Blair or Huntingdon counties. Mary Ellen was born 1828, Edward 1821. They were married 1843.

Children:
Elizabeth, Valentine, Jeremiah, Anna Marie, Tamar, William, Hannah, Mary Ellen, Almeda.

Any info that could potentially lead to my finding more on Mary Ellen would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Emily
