Dear Mr. Fischer,

It was wonderful to see your note -- I apologize for the long delay in responding, but I had not checked the message board in quite awhile.

Yes, it was our family who visited yours in the early 1960s. We drove from Oberammergau, where my father was posted at the NATO School. Happy memories!

Please contact me directly: StonecipherCA@yahoo.com

Charles Stonecipher

Does anyone know about the following family?

Ebbie (Ibby, Abby,sp?) Baugh (b. about 1852 TN) married James Mofield
1869 Smith Co., TN. Cannot locate her parents. It is said by some that she was a Stonecipher and by some that her mother was a Stonecypher.
Her marriage record says Abby Baugh to James Mofield. Any help appreciated. I have a picture of Abby to share. Thanks, Susan C. Hollis hysaw@msn.com

Hello,

my name is Ernst Fischer from Taufkirchen/Vils, Bavaria, Germany.
My mother Gabriele Fischer (a born Meier) has told me that the Stonecipher family visited my village in the early 1960s. They wanted to meet their relatives from the "Lehner" family.
From the mentioned names in the posting above I assume you could be this family she has been talking about.
It would be so nice hearing from you.

Kind regards,
Ernst Fischer

Yes, they are connected. I immediately recognized the names Pearl, Fred and Maude Stonecipher as being names I heard often as a child from Millard Stonecipher, my uncle. My mother is asleep right now but I bet she can tell me how they are connected. I will ask her tomorrow, If she doesn;t know I am pretty sure Millard's daughter Patsy will.

Yes, those Eppersons are related to mine also I believe. There were a couple of John Wolfe Eppersons in my bunch. My great great great grandfather Stephen Epperson was married to Elizabeth Wolfe and several of their descendants had her maiden name Wolfe as a middle name. I would love to learn more about them too. Please email me when you have time.

None of these names are familar but I bet they are connected. My Stonecipher family started with Joseph in Bradley County. He came from Greene County, Tn. His father was Solomon and his grandfather was Henricus. Joseph lived in Bradley County in the late 1880's. He died in 1888. His son Phillilp was my great, great, great grandfather. Phillip lived in Bradley County then moved across the line to Whitfield Co. My grandmother, Pearl was born in Bradley County to Tom Stonecipher. Her sister Maude Stonecipher lived there all of her life. She was also married to a Fred Stonecipher. Almost all Stonecipher's are related so somewhere there is probably a link. I notice you are also looking into the Epperson's. There is an old link with the Stonecipher's and Eppersons. Phillip Stonecipher was in the Civil War and when he came home he was sick. He applied for his pension and had to go through a lot of paper work. One of the people that signed his petition and gave testimony was an Epperson. My husband's mother was an Epperson before her marriage. Her name was Betty and her father was John Wolf Epperson from Dalton. I hope you can make a connection to some of these people.
Linda Barnes

I hope you see this, since your original posting was so long ago! Here is info on some of the Stoneciphers from Harrison County ("H.C." below) you were interested in:

Samuel Stonecipher (born 18 Jan 1823, Harrison Co., died 15 May 1894, H.C.), on 31 Dec 1846 married Rebecca Getz (born 5 Feb 1823, Shenandoah Co., VA, died 29 May 1879, H.C.). One of their children was:

Andrew Philip Stonecipher (born 28 Aug 1855, H.C., died 2 Jul 1913, H.C.), who on 20 Dec 1876 married Marietta (Mary E.) Kitterman (born 19 May 1859, H.C., died 31 Dec 1929, La Crosse, La Porte Co., IN). One of their children was:

Samuel Oliver Stonecipher (born 25 July 1884, H.C., died 28 Jun 1972, La Crosse, La Porte Co., IN), who on 10 Oct 1903 married Mary Etta McKim (born 9 Nov 1884, H.C., died 17 Jan 1962, La Crosse, La Porte Co., IN).

I have quite a bit on the ancestry part. I am interested in connecting with living relatives and distant cousins right now. I'm trying to make connections throughout the family tree. It's been fun talking to relatives I've never met before and see what they know about the family history and hear stories of their own families. I figure you can't really enjoy the past until you get to the know the present.

Thanks!
Christie

Do you have any information on this line that you would like to share with me?

Also, did you figure out you answer and get pictures of Johannes grave - if so I would love to see the pictures.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Niccole

My stonecipher lines didn't move as far as i know, the Cheeks moved to California, about 2 generations past the Stonecipher/Cheek marriages. As far as I know the Stonsciphers lived in Marion County, Arkansas. Here is the link to the picture, Arthur William Cheek was my ggrandfather, Edith was his sister, I see my ggrandma in the picture, but she isn't named. I assume that there are at least 3 of the 5 children pictured. Arthur William died in 1924, the year my grandmother was born.
The information I got the day before yesterday from a distant cousin is Gasaway Cheek and his brother married Stonecipher sisters. I have my Trueblood lines until about 1500, but none of the Cheek or Stonecipher lines. I'm hoping to find someone who may have this line researched. I'm new to searching my lines and everything I find, it seems my mom already knows.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion/photos/stonecipherfamilyga...

In my research I've found a new relative. Thanks Ellen :)

I am trying to find any information on the Cheek family through the Stonecipher lines.
My great grandfather was Aurthur William Cheek, he married Clara Trueblood. Aurthur had a sister named Edith, who never married. After my ggrandfather's death Clara moved with her 5 children sister in law and twin sister Claudia to California. I've always been told we were related to Stonciphers. I'm told I'm decended from Gasaway Cheek. Gasaway and his brother married Stonecipher sisters.
I'd like any information I can get. Thanks

2002 was so long ago. Amazing what you learn in the years since. I took the information that Phillips father was Jonathan from information in the Stonecipher book. This was wrong and I want to correct it. Phillip was Joseph Stonecipher's son. I have the census records to back this up. Also we have a form filled out for or by Phillip for Post Master of Mills, Ga that list his middle name as Jackson. Joseph is Solomon Stonecypher's son. I hope this wrong information has not sent anyone down the wrong trail of information. I have learned just because it is in a book doesn't make it so. I have a cousin that keeps telling me over and over where is the proof. We need to remember that.
Linda

P.J. (Phillip J. ) Stonecipher was from Bradley County. He was listed in both the Union and Confederate Armys. Phillip was the son of Joseph Stonecipher who was the son of Solomon Stonecipher who was the son of Henricus who was the son of Johannes who was the son of Johann who was the son of Jacob who was the son of Christian (Christ) who was the son of Johan. We have traveled from Oberschelden, Germany with Johan to Eiserfield, Germany with Johannes then to Culpepper, Va where Johannes and Henricus came to from Germany. Henricus then moved to NC and on to Greene Co, Tn. Solomon and Joseph were from Greene Co. then Joseph moved to Bradley Co. Joseph's son Phillip was born in Greene Co. but moved with his father to Bradley. They are my line in Bradley County. Phillip had a son Thomas Warren then my grandmother Pearl.

Lydia Nix Stancil was my GGGrandmother. She is buried at Old Damascus Church Cemetery, in North Cherokee County, along with Cader B. Stancil (my GGGreatfather), their children: daughter Malinda (never married) Benjamin and Sarah Stancil Akins (another daughter), Andrew Jackson Stancil (killed in Civil War at age 18yrs.) and Thomas Jefferson & Emaline Owen Stancil. I have not found any records of her parents or siblings that is concrete. I know that she was born in S. Carolina abt. 1810-15, died in 1914 at her son's home in Dalton, GA.
LDS family records show a William Nix born 1878 with sibling Lydia born 1876.
William Nix and Susannah Stonecypher had daughter named Malinda. Lydia Nix Stancil had daughter named Malinda also. The family names all correspond. Just need something solid. Thanks for your reply Betty. Katherine
