Emerson T. Stoneham, 63, of Mill St., Benton, died Friday at 12:55 a.m. at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient 12 days. He was ill six months.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Harrison and Clara Hill Stoneham and resided 50 years in Benton where he graduated from Benton High School, Class of 1932. A graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, he operated Yost’s Restaurant, Benton, 15 years and was later owner-operator of Yost’s Tire Service, Benton, before retiring in 1975. A member of the Chimney Stack Rod and Gun Club and Painter Den Hunting Club, he was veteran of World War II in which he served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theatre.
He and his wife, the former E. Louise Shannon, who survives, celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary last Nov. 21.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert L. (Becky) Green, of Benton; a son, Danny H. Stoneham, Benton R.D.2; four grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Edmond (Doris) Ash, of Mifflinville.
Private services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Stoneham residence in Benton with the Rev. Robert E. Kelsey pastor of Benton Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Benton Cemetery under the direction of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home, Benton
