My name is Donald Stoney and my fathers name is Richard Stoney and as far as I know he came from Darrington Washington or somewhere in that area if anybody has any info I would appreciate it

Hi there,
I'm a Stoney from Sheffield in Yorkshire. My gg grandfather, Thomas, came over from Ireland around 1850. His father, Joshua, later followed. They are on several of the English census records, but the part of Irelend from which they originated isn't mentioned.
Joshua Stoney seems to be a really unusual name. There is a marriage certificate for a Joshua Stoney on the new pilot search facility of the Family Search website, but if it's "my" Joshua he is lying about his age!
If my ancestors are descended from the Irish gentry family, then it will either be through younger sons or illegitimacy. They worked as servants when they arrived in England after the famine.

Hi there,
I'm trying to find more information about my ggg grandfather, Joshua Stoney. He was born around 1785 in Ireland. In the 1861 census, he is resident in Sheffield, Yorkshire. His son, Thomas (b c1822 Ireland) moved there with his wife, Martha Conroy, around 1852.
I don't know which part of Ireland the family are from, as the census doesn't give a county.

How odd! I was looking at my old post early this morning wondering if I should try to post again. Had to get to work, so, put off further search regarding Stoney family until this evening. Then I received your message! I'm afraid I have presented all the info I have on my one little Stoney... Winnie Lou, born 1762 Shrewsbury, Monmouth, NJ., married Samuel Williams (b.1762) in Shrewsbury in 1780. I did find the name Stoney in a nearby town but could not find a connection with my Winnie. I hope you can provide a clue to set me on the right search path!

Captain Joseph Stoney and Dorothy (Dolly) VanBrakle are my 4th great grandparents, then Ann Elizabeth Stoney married John R. Walling, they are my 3rd great grandparents, then came Joseph Stoney Walling and Mary Jane Gray, my 2nd great grandparents, then James Stoney Walling and Mary Matilda Mount. James and Mary's daughter, Edna Mae Walling married Frederick J. Sickles, my grand parents.
Would love to meet you and our other cousins.

The Stoneys came to Ireland from Yorkshire around 1688. You need to read up about the fraught history of land in Ireland between Cromwell, through Charles II and James II to William III and form you own judgement as to why they came

Is there any information on a Clarence Martin Stoney b. 10/10/1883 in South Carolina? Clarence married in 1913 to May T. Chaplin b. Dec 1888 in Canada, daughter of James Chaplin and Elizabeth Beattie from Scotland. According to Census records, both of Clarence Martin Stoney's parents were born in South Carolina, but I cannot find his parents. Clarence and May appear in the 1920 and 1930 census in Oregon. I have no records linking Clarence to his family in South Carolina. Can anyone help? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I am trying to research Molly (Mary) Victoria Storey/Story/Stoney 's ancestors. I can not find any information on her parents. I know that she married Henry David Caver, I believe 22 Feb 1872 and I do have plenty of information on their children. I believe that she was born in SC. However, I get conflicting information from the Census reports which indicate SC one time and MS the other. Now I need any leads or help on researching Molly. She passed away 6 March 1908 in Prentiss Co., MS.

My Stoney family (my mothers side of the family) originated in Yorkshire, England & came to Phila around the mid 1800s. My GGGrandfather James Stoney was born in England in 1841. My GGGGrandfather was named Joseph & Married to Anne Waugh. My Aunt Frankie (Frances) is the last surviving Stoney in our family.

Thank you for writing. As mentioned on my post, I am not related to this family, but have studied them and become acquainted with some living members of the family.
I know you can pull further family tree information on ancestry.com. The farthest back I am familiar with is Thomas Porcher Stoney, who was born in South Carolina in 1835, came to California before the Civil War and died in CA in 1891. His parents were P. Gaillard Stoney and Anna Maria Stoney, nee Porcher.
I'm sorry I cannot connect that to the folks you named.

My Great-Grand-Mother was Mary Ann STONEY, b 1857 at Hotspur, Victoria, Australia, the eldest of eleven children, 7 girls and 4 boys. All born in western Victoria.
Her parents were John STONEY (b Dublin 1826 - d Digby, Victoria 1885) and Albina PENNEFEATHER (b Tipperary 1835 - d Digby, Victoria 1900)
Mary Ann married Kenneth MORRISON on 16 August 1877 at Casterton, Victoria.
They had 6 sons and 4 daughters.
Is there anyone out there connected to this family?

I too am descended from James Johnstone Stoney - the father of your one. My great grandmother was one of his daughters and a sister of the Rev James Stoney. Her name was Marion Cashel Stoney and shee arrived in NZ in 1880 with her brother whose name I have forgotten. They were part of Dr Stoney's second family. he had seventeen children all up and only one of his 12 daughters married.

I have just seen your message dated 5 january 2007. My great great grandfather was Dr James Johnstone Stoney. He had 12 daughters and 17 children with two marriages but only my great grandmother married. There is quite a bit of information around about the Stoneys, so if you get this e mail me and will be happy to share.

My father is John Gilman Stoney, his father was Marion Dwight Stoney, from Allendale South Carolina, I know the Allens and Tysons are related in some way to me. My father is deceased, he had one brother William Dwight Stoney, also deceased. They never had much contact with the Stoney side of the family, my grandparents divorced when my father was an infant, but they always received invitations to the Saint Cecelia Ball in Charleston South Carolina every year when I was younger. Any other information would be appreciated.
