Does anyone know where to find the information from George Storrs McDole's bible? I have seen it referenced, but I would like to know exactly what it says. Photocopies or pictures of the pages would also be fine. Willing to pay copying and postage costs.
George Storrs McDole was the son of Alexander & Almira Ellen (Storrs) McDole, born in 1840 in Litchfield, Medina Co., Ohio and died in Kansas in 1904. Thank you!

LuAnn Goeke

Hi All,

I'm trying to find more infomration about my 3xgreat grandmother's family in Henrico County. Her name is Elizabeth Frances Storrs and she was married to William James McCloy around 1842 (I don't have my papers sitting in front of me). I understand that her father was a Storrs and her mother a Dupre; she was born around 1818 in Henrico County or Hampton, VA. Does anyone keep the history of this family?

Margaret Storrs Grierson papers at Smith College

I have no connection to the Storrs family, but I ran across these papers when I was researching at Smith.

Anyone researching the Storrs family--there is a treasure trove of family information in the Margaret Storrs Grierson papers at Smith College. Born in 1900, Margaret was an archivist at Smith from about 1930-1965. She also had a PhD in philosophy from Bryn Mawr, so she was quite an educated person.

After her retirement, she turned her attention to family papers that had come to her through her father. She spent 20 years or more writing an extensive history of the Storrs family and its ancestors including the Cooper, Rankin and Barnes families.

From the biographical blurb: "Mrs. Grierson said she was not interested in genealogy but in the documented historical facts of these families, their movements and lives in the United States." Ha--sounds like genealogy to me!
Re: England to Utah Storrs Line.

Hi Nannadale

I was researching the STORRS family connection to my KINDRED line and came across a rather old posting of yours…

I have some information regarding your great-grandfather, George Albert STORRS.

He was married to Lydia Mary KINDRED (my half 3rd cousin 3 times removed). However, according to my sources, George was not born in Ipswich but, Lydia Mary Kindred was. My sources show George as being born in Mission, Nottinghamshire, England.

Perhaps the confusion is with Lydia’s birthplace? Lydia’s father, Edmund Henry KINDRED, and mother, Harriett LORD, were born in Framlingham and Ipswich respectively, in Suffolk, England.

This would make Edmund Henry KINDRED and Harriet LORD your great-great grandparents and would make you my half sixth cousin on the Kindred line.

Edmund Henry was the member of the KINDRED line who joined the Mormon church, left England on March 31, 1855 aboard the ship “Juventa” and made the trek to Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City on October 24th 1855.

It probably would have been in Salt Lake City that Lydia Mary met George Albert STORRS as they were married there on June 29, 1861.

Along the Storrs line I have:

Storrs (first name unknown) married Ann Susanah STORS of York, England.

They had Joseph STORRS (b. Dec 30, 1768 in Adwick, Yorkshire, England).

Joseph married Ann ABSON (b. abt. 1769 in Yorkshire, England)

They had Joseph STORRS (b. January 1799 in Bolton on Dearne, Yorkshire, England)

He married Mary SCOTT (b. March 3 1800 in Beckingham, Nottingham, England)

They had George Albert STORRS (your great-grandfather).

As for the KINDRED side, I can help you with the ancestors of Lydia Mary KINDRED back to your 11 times great-grandfather, Steven KINRED (note spelling) who was born circa 1510.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards,

David C Kindred
Toronto, Canada

I am looking for information on Storrs or Storr family that immigrated from the Bahamas to Key West, Florida between 1875 - 1885. Family names include Roderick Storrs who came to Florida in 1880 and married Marion Barnett in Key West in 1881. Their children include Norman, Clarence, Celestine and Alfred. They eventually went to Tampa Florida and then New York City around the time of WW I. They were cigar makers

Andrew fought in civil war and was discharged in Memphis, Tn. He went back to Michigan and lived there until Late 1870's. All but one of their children was born in Michigan. Their last son Samuel Jefferson Storrs Sr was born in McLennan Co., Texas. I have been unable to find them in Michigan. I know they married in 1840's but I do not know where. Andrew was born in Bloomfield NY 1820's. Any information will be helpful.

Samuel Hackins Storrs obituary, 1896, Tampa FL

The Tampa Tribune, September 12, 1896, page 2:

Samuel Hackins Storrs, of Emporia, Fla., died in the Robert Packer Hospital, at Sayre Pa., this morning, aged 68 years. Mr. Storrs was a son of Rev. Samuel Porter Storrs, and a half brother of the late A.P. Storrs, of Owego. Mr. Storrs had spent a portion of the summer in Owego. His remains will be brought to Owego and the funeral held from the residence of G.I. Hansell tomorrow, (Friday) afternoon at 4 o'clock.

The above item was clipped from the Owego, NY Times and the paragraph will cast a gloom over a large number of people in this city who highly esteemed the deceased for his many noble traits of head and heart. He will be remembered as the gentleman that was a familiar figure around the Tampa Livery Sale and Transfer Co., having been employed there in the capacity of bookkeeper.
=====================
I am not related to this family. I am simply posting a lovely old obituary found in the Tampa Tribune.

(1870-1880) Susquehanna Co., PA: Russell Stoors/Storrs (about 1844) and wife Alice (about 1851)

1870 and 1880 census of New Milford, Susquehanna, PA shows a Russell Storrs aka Russel Stoors and his wife,
Alice. They had no children with them in the 1870 census,
he was 26 and she was 19, both born in PA.
The 1880 census shows that he is 35 PA CT unkown,
she is 24 PA CT (RI or NJ). The children were:
Geroge 8, Frank 7, and Harry was 5/12 (born Dec 1879 or
Jan 1880.
Is the wife Alice Dolittle?
The record I found for Polly Alden, born about 1814,
shows she married a Doolittle, and that her daughter,
Alice married a Stoors.
The 1850 census of New Milford, Susquehanna shows that Edward Doolittle was 46 and Polly was 36 with children :
Jane 15, Sarah 12, Clara 11, Mary 1.
The 1860 shows that Lyman E. is 46 and Polly is 36.
They have a daughter Mary who was 10 and Alcie was 8.
Which then would match the listing of Polly's children names
in the source.
I found a Clarissa Doolittle age 17 and Sarah Doolittle
age 21, both single, in the 1860 census in the same area.
Which would match the children listed in the 1850 census,
except for a daughter Jane, who I have not found.

Do I have the correct families?
The source gave no name for Polly Alden's husband, except
Doolittle. It appears by this to be Lyman Edward.
The children were listed as Alice Stoors, Jane Brown,
Sarah Farrier, Mary Fuller, and Clara Bennett(likely Clarissa).
Thanks for any help.
I am related through the Alden family.
