My link with Cecelia is via my Great grandfather and grandfather. We are related through Charles T Shelman. I believe Charles T. and Pleasant S. were brothers. Correspondence is often with Shellman to Shellman or Shelman to Shelman. It is weird that the L is used so loosely. I suspected the loss of the l came from a family disagreement or something. Charles T senior was the first born and hence given the land holdings; Pleasant was second born and hence without... But if anyone knows more specifics do let me know. Pleasant S. I believe gave rise to several boys: Marion Carter, L H., Thomas H. are the three I know, and there may have been another P. S.

Anyone related to these gentlemen, then do let me know.

I've three letters from Etowah. One from Cecelia and one from Clio and one from Charles T (the son). The Etowah house as it stood about 10 years ago was very lovely (one story, sprawl, where once the replacement mansion stood.

The portrait of Cecilia is at the Smithsonian (there was a portrait of Charles T Senior (captain) but I don't know where that has been placed.

The name Creed Stovall started me in seaching family history. William Creed Stovall that married Susan Jane Piper was my father's great grandfather, all he know was Creed Stovall. We found his name to be William Creed Stovall.

A Thomas and George Stovall appear in the 1815 Tax Records for Allen County, Kentucky. They both owned property on Difficult Creek. Only Thomas appears in the 1816 records for Allen County: he is listed as owning 50 acres on Bay's Fork. He is also listed as owning one black person over the age of 16 as well as two horses. This Thomas was a brother to Drury Stovall (my 4 greatgrandfather) who had a son William Creed Stovall. Drury was from Halifax County, Va.

Elizabeth Cooper, born Sept. 28th, 1762, and married to Thomas Stovall, of Henry County, Virginia, November 25th, 1781. They were the progenitors of the Stovall family in Georgia. (Baldwin County GaArchives History .....History of Baldwin County - Stovall Biography 1925)

Don Bishop has a very large data base of Stovalls (just google his name)

Actually, my name is Robert Stovall. My father is James William Stovall of Pryor, Oklahoma. His father was James Stovall and mother was Delight Anne Whiteley. Anne was the daughter of Annie Whiteley and James Thomas Whiteley. That couple were my great grandparents. They lived just outside of Cheatue(?)I grew up in Pryor. My mom sent me the note about Stovall that she got from a clerk friend in the town. We never knew many Stovalls.
Robert

The following are the sources cited in Don Bishop's database for information on the children of John & Dorcas:

Data obtained from The Stovall FAmily & related Lines Vol II by Lyle K Williams of Ft Worth TX & The Family of Bartholomew Stovall by Neil Thompson dtd 1993. Data obtained from The Lineage of Drury & Sarah Stovall by Ada Ruth Stovall of Montgomery Al dtd 1997.

If anyone has copies of these publications - could you look up and give me the source for the death date of John and Dorcas' son Thomas in particular. His dod is shown as 1771 - North Carolina Records shows Thomas (along with his brothers, except for Benjamin) swearing to an oath in 1778. See attached. For anyone interested, this attachment serves as proof for SAR & DAR for Patriot designation. Thomas has never been designated as such - If I can prove he wasn't dead and this wasn't another Thomas??

Any assistance would be appreciated. In trying to post my attachment it would not allow me to attach a pdf - contact me direct if anyone would like it - slschrat@hotmail.com

This is consistent with what I have. Later trips to the National Archives in Ft. Worth turned up a lot of Indian Nation records. It seemed that Susie, who was the daughter of Albert Main Johnston (documented as Sheriff, Sequoyah District, Indian Territory 1879-1883), filed a lengthy discussion of the family with authorities after someone tried to take part of his estate, posing as a family member. From all of this, I believe that the infant may be Elmer Stovall, 07 Aug 1902 - 19 Oct 1902.

You have added the date of Kibble's birth (I've only had a month and year to now).

I have never had time to visit the cemetery, as much as I would like to.

From your notes, your mother is Ida?

My search came from the photo I mentioned, which we have since come to believe was taken on Keekee Tehee Stovall's wedding day.

I would like to exchange information with you.

Jim McDaniel

I'm trying to research my father's family history and just came across your post. Juanita Stovall was my father's aunt. His mother was Clara/Claire Stovall. Clara later married Robert Davis, after whom my father is named. From what I understand, there were two other siblings: Myrtle and Richard.

Our immediate family seems to have done very little genealogical research, so I'd be very excited to see any info that would help me assemble a more detailed family tree!

Hello and hoping this message finds you well. I am a descendant of Stovalls in Missouri. I don't know a great deal except for what my Grandmother can remember. Her Great-grandfather was Louis Stovall. Louis Stovall moved to Missouri, but it is unclear, from where. Upon residing here he married a Charlotte Emery and thereafter a number of children were from this marriage. I understand, Louis Stovall was likely born in Madagascar. I wonder if this has anything to do with your "Quincy". DO you know where he is from?
