I show Barbara Stover being born in 1711, but Jacob Stover and Sarah Boone not getting married to 1715. If this is correct, I would say it was highly unlikely that Jacob and Sarah are Barbara's parents.

Harry 'Gate Mouth' Jarrell

Harry "Gate Mouth" Jarrell, 79, of Fairdale (Raleigh County, WV),
passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2005.

Harry was born June 5, 1925, at Cabin Creek (Kanawha County, WV), the
son of the late Cecil R. Jarrell and the late Dora Dean Williams
Jarrell.

Harry was a member of Fairdale Free-will Baptist Church. He loved
hunting, fishing, the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Harry was a retired coal miner with 30 years of service, working last
at the Bolt Mountain Mine.

Harry was the last survivor of his immediate family. He will be
missed by his family and friends, and all who knew him.

Other than his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 46
years, Lillie Stover Jarrell; and a son, Harry Orton Jarrell Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Tenisia
Jarrell; six daughters, Demerise Smith of Bolt, Charlotte Sharp of
Marlinton, Floretta Adkins of Bolt, Loretta Adkins of Piney View,
Barbara Sharp of Marlinton and Sheila K. Moss of Mount Airy, N.C.;
two sons, Harry G. Jarrell of Bolt and Cecil T. Jarrell at home; 11
grandchildren, Mary Smith of Roanoke, Va., Crystal Moore of
Charleston, Lisa Bristow of Piney View, Christina Jarrell of Hawaii,
Jessica Sharp of Marlinton, Nicole Jarrell of Arnett, William Smith
of Stanton River, Va., Harry Smith of Covington, Va., Norman Sharp of
Marlinton, David Adkins of Beckley and Joseph Adkins of Bolt; eight
great-grandchildren, Justin Phillips of Roanoke, Va., Chelsea
Phillips of Roanoke, Va., Haley Bristow of Piney View, Fontana Blaze
Adkins of Beckley, Macey Jo Adkins of Bolt, Brandon Sharp of
Marlinton, Shamran Sharp of Marlinton and Kara Lea Moss of Mount Airy.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley,
with Pastor Bobby Carter and Pastor Dean Adams officiating. Burial
will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley (Raeligh County,
WV).

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements entrusted to Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C.
Byrd Drive, Beckley.

I want every date and place I can get. I do not post birth or
marriage dates later than 1930 to the general population but I do
supply them to cousins! My date of birth is 30 Nov 1934 but when it
got posted to the JARRELL ListServer or the general internet it would
appear as 30 Nov 19(private) which tells everyone that I have a hard
date and no further research needs to be done.

Having said that - I post my dob in it's natural form because I'm not
concerned about it.

Look online for Mastof Press. I bought my copy from them.

Here is what's in the book for Mary Stover and Israel Hind. (There is no "s" on Hind in the book, although perhaps the spelling has evolved to Hinds.)

Mary "Polly" Stover born 15 Nov 1812 in Botetourt Co, VA. Died 1834 in Washington Co, IN. Buried in Old Blue River Cem, Washington Co, IN.

She married Israel Hind, son of Israel Hind and Catherine Brown, 2 Apr 1829, in Washinton Co, IN. Israel born 1806 in Nicholasville, KY; died 30 Nov 1856 in Washington Co, IN. Burial in Old Blue River Cem. Occupation: Farmer. On 2 Mar 1838 Israel Hind and Elizabeth his wife of Washinton Co, IN sold four acres on the road from Jeffersonville to Salem to Abraham Stover (Washington Co Deed Book M: 294). Israel married, second, Elizabeth Sowder, 31 Dec 1835, in Washington Co, IN. Children:

1. Elizabeth Hind. (The book gives one more generation for Elizabeth Hind and her husband George Washington Hedrick, listing their 9 children.
2. Abraham Hind. Died before 1841. (no more info on this line.)
3. James Hind. Born c1834 in Indiana. He married Celia Brough, daughter of Emanuel Brough and Elizabth Click, 14 Sep 1856 in Washington Co, IN. Living in Pierce Twp, Washington Co, IN during the 1860 census. (no more info on this line.)

Abraham's ancestry is documented in "Stover Brethren" by Richard R. Weber, published 2001.

Col. Abraham Stover was the son of Dr. Georg Stover and Catharine Price. (Georg and Catharine were my ancestors as well.)

Abraham was born in Franklin Co, PA. His wife Amelia (Amy, Emily, Emma) Rader was the dau of Adam Rader and Mary Hotsenpeiller. Abraham and Amelia were married 30 Jun 1811 in Botetourt Co, VA.

"Stover Brethren" is very well-documented and sourced. The book also contains information about the families of Abraham's daughters, Mary "Polly" (Stover) Hind and Elizabeth (Stover) Brugh.

Joshua H. Stover married Margaret F. Altaffer on Nov-23-1840 in Rockingham County, VA. The marriage license states that she is the daughter of John Altaffer. No information is given on Joshua's father. Would you like a copy of the marriage license? If so, please let me know and I will send you a scanned copy.

I don't have any information on Joshua H. Stover's parents or siblings. I have heard also that Joshua was the brother of Simon P. Stover and the son of Daniel Stover but haven't found any concrete evidence. Daniel Stover's will doesn't have any reference to Joshua Stover or any of his family.

According to the abstract I have for Daniel Stover's will the following people are listed: son - Simon P. Stover, son-in-law John Sheets, deceased & Peter Sheets; grandson - Johnathan Stover.

Neilson was the name of the law partner of John Hubler Stover according to the Versailles business directory of 1880. Stover came from Centre County Pennsylvania, and two brothers came with him--Major George Hubler Stover who had a hardware store according to the 1880 business directory and Michael Hubler Stover. John Hubler Stover married Mary Ellen Hoover, also from Centre County PA. His nephew, Horace Greeley Stover (my great grandfather) married Mary Ellen's youngest sister, Adaline Green Hoover.

Hello,
I see it's been a while since you posted, but Garrett Stover and Zadie Lee Melton (who always insisted on being called Grannie) were my great-great-grandparents. Garrett lived in Sevier with his children Travis (Shorty), Bonnie, Tommy (who was in the Navy in WWII), and Horace (adopted from Grannie's other marriage). Shorty was my grandfather, but the only still-living member from this generation is Bonnie. Hope this helps.

I'm looking for information concerning my grandmother's parents.

My grandmother's name was Mary Leola Stover, she was married to Ralph Nutt and they lived in North Charleroi, PA. She was born on March 5, 1909 and died on February 28, 1990. (She went by the name Leola not Mary)

Her parents were Samuel Wesley Stover (b. 10/5/1885 - d. 5/25/1926) and Alice Kerr (b. 1885 - d. 12/25/1918).

I believe that Alice Kerr also had a sister Madge Kerr and that Madge was married to an Owen Barkley and had a son, Paul Barkley.

There are major probles with this query. Freddie's obit lists no
half siblings; Tessie's obit lists no stepchildren. Who is this
Harvey James JARRELL?

Later today I'll make another query covering Tessie's lineage as her
mother is Maudie JARRELL.

internet to see if someone can straighten us out on who's who and

PAX - Roger Dale Jarrell, 37, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at his
home following a short illness.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Jan. 3, 1970, he was the son of the late
Paul Jarrell, and Sharon Stover Donell of Pax, and the stepson of
Douglas Donell of Pax.

Mr. Jarrell was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and was employed
by Air Tech as a tool repairman.

Mr. Jarrell served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tessie L.
Jarrell and Harvey James Jarrell; and maternal grandparents, Everett
Stover and Margie Stover.

Other survivors include brothers, Paul Jarrell of Clear Creek,
Jonathan Jarrell of Pax and Mark Donell of Oak Hill; and special
friends, Sherri Gwinn of Beckley, Salena Gwinn and Shalen Rhan of
Pax, Melina Williams of Pax and Melissa of Sandbranch.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel,
Beckley, with the Rev. Loretta Taylor officiating. Burial will follow
in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call two hours before service Saturday at the funeral
home.

Pallbearers will be David Morton, Eugene Derringer, David and Steven
Donell, Brandon Williams and Brandon Thornquest.

Freddie D. Jarrell

Freddie D. Jarrell, 68, of Fayetteville (Fayette County WV), formerly
of Prosperity (Raleigh County WV), passed away Thursday, July 6,
2006, at a Virginia hospital.

Born April 15, 1938, at Ameagle (Raleigh County WV), he was the son
of the late Harvey and Martha Felty Jarrell.

Freddie enjoyed fishing, bluegrass and spending time with his family,
friends and neighbors, especially his grandchildren. He was a member
of the UMWA and served two terms as president of Local 1330.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
stepmother, Tessie Stover-Jarrell; a sister, Janice Comer; and three
brothers, Elgie, Bill and Paul Ray Jarrell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Muriel Smith
Jarrell; two sons, Gregory and wife, Carla, of Mount Airy, N.C., and
Ricky and wife, Melissa, of Prosperity; three grandchildren, Kellie
Draughon and husband, Kevin, Ryan Jarrell and Rickayla Jarrell;
stepgrandson, Jared Horn; brother, Frank Jarrell and wife, Wanda, of
New Martinsville WV; sister, Zelphy Flora of Point Pleasant WV;
brother, Pat Jarrell and wife, Wanda, of Sophia WV; sister, Jean
Smelser and husband, Ray, of Arizona; sister, Ann Thomas and husband,
Raymond, of Dothan; sister, Betty Jo Gray of Eskdale; and brother,
Buddie Jarrell of Clear Creek WV.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home
Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Gary Maynor and Glen Williams
officiating. Tom and Michelle Warner will provide special music.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley (Raleigh
County WV).

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral
home.

of Clear Creek, who died Friday from injuries received in a car
accident.

Born June 2, 1920 at Ameagle, she was a daughter of Howard and Maudie
Jarrell Stover.

five daughters, Mrs. Jean Kirk of Ventura, Calif., Mrs. Ann Thomas of

Hi Deb,
I am a descendent of Franklin M. Stover. He told my aunt that he was first cousin to Ida Elizabeth Stover. That would make him the son of Daniel Stover and brother of Simon P. Stover. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find his birth record. I also found a Joshua H. Stover who was convicted of petit larceny and went to prison, perhaps as many as 4 times. He appealed to the Superior Court of Virginia when he was sentenced to life. The case changed Va. law. It was found that the lower court erred in the sentencing and the sentence was reduced from life to 1 year. Aside: It mentions the first offense in the document - he stole a piece of bacon worth 37 1/2 cents.

I hope you get this message. I had no information on his wife, other than her first name. Where did you find it?

I am the great granddaughter of Franklin Morris Stover - son of Joshua H. Stover. I just came back from Staunton, VA. We did some research there. I found the acutal birth record of Franklin Stover - Joshua H. listed as father, Margaret (no maiden name) listed as mother.I tried to find a record that Joshua H. Stover was Daniel Stover's son (Daniel Stover was Simon Stover's son - Simon was Ida's father). Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. I know from my aunt, Franklin's granddaughter, that Ida Elizabeth Stover was his first cousin. My aunt told me that he often spoke fondly of cousin Ida.

I did not know Joshua's wife's last name until I read these queries. Where did this information come from?

I also found reference to a Joshua H. Stover who was convicted of petty larceny and sent to prison. He appealed - his case changed Virginia law. Does anyone know anything about this - is it the same Joshua Stover.

Any information would be appreciated.

I've learn that Captain John? Stover found the escape route the Natives were using and caught my GGgmother and sent her to the Stover family in lawrence county, alabama. I'm not for sure if Patsy's father or her husband was 7 ft tall.

I am very interesed in learning more about the Stover slaves in Lawrence County, Alabama. My Gfather name is Roddy Stover. His parents are Claburne Stover and Patsy. Patsy was a native american, who was to go to mid-west but escape the trail of tears twice. Some how she and her family were sent to be a slaves at the Stover plantation. From what I heard, her father was a chief who was 7'0 ft tall.
