Hi,

My name is Angela S. Straughter, I live in Valdosta, GA. My father name is Willie C. Straughter and his father name is James Straughter, Sr. There are five children born to my grandfather.

We have family also, in the Madison, Flordia area.

I would like very much to trace my roots.

Please advice ,if you can be of any assistance.

I went to High School with Ectoria Straughter. She is currently married so new last name will be Brumfield. And currently resides in Carson, Ca. Are looking for her?. And I remember Reggie as well. Ectoria's Mom was Evelyn Jones who has passed on.

any of us with the name straughter have to pay attention to each other. i don't think you're part of my line from the late 1800's but who can say about 1700??? my farthest elder is washington sampson straughter who was in florida by the 1880's; woning property in 1884 in winter park, orange county, florida. i know folks since him too, if you're interested. email me at: livingonpurpose@mail.com. i can share info on locations of straughters in the 1800s. can you share info on the white straughter's? thanks, cuz! kadija ash

Good morning!
I know very little about my Straughter line except that my grandfather's sister was "willie Mae" from Georgia and married a Straughter -- they apparently moved to either Louisiana or Florida but I have very little information other than that. Willie Mae's maiden name was "Daniel" so I am not sure if she would fit into your line or not. My grandfather's family was white, however, there was Cherokee blood in the family.

I have just returned to the Rootsweb board and I would truly appreciate any information you might have on Willie Mae married to one of your Straughters!! My Willie Mae is from Alabama and also lived in Georgia (troup county/heard county) for a time. I don't know much more about her. If you have any information I would truly appreciate it.

Hi there, my name is Joyce Stroughter and our family came from Louisiana to Arkansas and to California. I have just gotten into searching my family tree and found there are more Stroughter's than I ever imagine. My grandparents were George Stroughter and Minervia Dismute Stroughter. They had 6 sons, Otis, Sidney, Moses, John Henry, George and Charles.
I am trying to get as much information as possible on my family. I am currently living in northern California and trying to connect with family. Looking forward to hearing from some other Stroughter's.

This was my brother. He had just been promoted to SGT, however they kept reporting him as a SPC. We were both deployed at the same time, however, I'm with the 82nd Airborne Div, and he was with the 1138th.

I am another Straughter, And although my brother was taken from me, and from all carrying the Straughter name, he will live on through me until the day I pass...

My name is Spencer Straughter, my mother is Earline Straughter, her parents are Sylvia and Earl Straughter. My uncles are David, Ray, Ernest and Henry Straughter. My family grew up in L.A. My grandfater, Earl Straughter moved from Texas before he meet Sylvia. Earl has a brother, Wallace Straughter and their mother is Mary Straughter. I have cousins in the SoCal area, Reggie, Ray Jr, Maleek, Henry Jr, Keylisha, Ectoria, Bobby and Deancca. All are Straughter's. I currently live in Vegas since moving from L.A. years ago. I understood from my grandmother, who married a Straughter, was that the name was French. In talking to people from Lousiana, they say it was German.

I just started researching my family history and Our family spelled it Stroughter. I understand this is the French spelling and you are right the German side of the family spelled it with an "a". My family was from Louisana and went to Arkansas. I understand we are all related in some form. Our original owner was German and married a French lady. I have been able to go back to 1875 on my side of the family.
There are a lot of us on both sides. Keep looking it is interesting.

It has been awhile since I have been in this board. I have been able to obtain quite a bit of info on my line and would like to share with those who may possibly be related. Here goes: I have also entered spouse info

There are a host of Straughter's in the St Louis area also. Growing up I didnt get a lot of family history, then I left st louis and did 20 years in the army. My Grandfather passed away on my tour of duty and I didnt get to ask many question. His name was Osuer Straughter and if memory serves me correctly, he was from Mississippi. I am attempting to locate relatives of my great-grandfather Harrison Straughter. His brothers were George and Frankie. They were born around the 1870's or 1880's in Zanesville, Ohio. Their mother was Annie Norris.

I don't have very much in your query but I checked through some of my info and found a Willie Mae married to Moses Straughter. I don't have any when, where info. My understanding is that Moses was the son of Johnnie Straughter. Moses brothers were Clyde, Willie, Samuel--sisters were Leola, Earlean, Ella V, Mary and Ethel.

I missed the Straughter line family reunion this year in Newellton Louisiana. But I am from that line.

I am still trying to find out about the Straughters myself.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Matthew F. Straughter, 27, of St. Charles, Mo., died Jan 31 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1138th Engineer Company, 35th Engineer Brigade, Missouri National Guard, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
