Streeter family to the Dark Ages

I just did this research for fun. I thought it might be interesting to all of you. I am Kyle Street, my ancestor was Stephen Streeter b. about 1576.

It turns out that some Streeters are descended from the surname "Strete" and that William de Strete was an ancestor who occurred 1376 as the King Edward III's main guardian.

The first recorded Strete relative in the National Archives of England was Osbern de la Strete son of Edward "the Long".

Edward was descended from an Anglo-Saxon Ealdorman named Godwin, Earl of Wessex, his uncle was Eadric "Streona".

John, as an FYI, this Leora and William Heaton appear to be descendants of William Streeter of Greene County, NY and East Grinstead, not, as I originally thought, descendants of Stephen and Ursula Adams Streeter. I apologize for the confusion.

As far as I can tell at this moment, I have not identified either a William or a Lenora Heaton relevant to the descendants of the Stephen and Ursula (Adams) Streeter. I have much research to do. Thanks for the offer.

An update to the earlier posting about Salem Streeter.

Salem was 36 when he joined the U S Army on 2/16/1814. Served as a Private in the 9th. Infantry in a company commanded by Captain Samuel Allen. This unit was formed in Massachusetts (His wife, Margaret Rogers family owned property in Palmer, MA).

The 9th Infantry was commanded by Colonel Winfield Scott who later was promoted to General in the Mexican American War. The 9th. served in the battles at Niagara Falls and Lundy's Lane.

Salem was discharged on May 17, 1815 at Sacketts Harbor, New York. According to a biography on Garrett Ives, who married Emily Streeter, her grandfather Salem Streeter died while returning home from his war service. No indication of where he died.

Based on his age at the time of enlistment he was born about 1778. He would have been 8 when his father Comfort Streeter died.

Additional children of Eri Streeter and Lucy Sikes have been identified. In the 1855 Census for Rensselaer County a Volney Streeter is living with Garrett Ives and his wife Emily Streeter Ives. He listed as brother of the head of household's wife.

The Volney Streeter that served as a Private in Company G of the 9th. Illinois Calvary during the Civil War is likely the same Volney Streeter. He resided before and after the war in Franklin Township, DeKalb County, Illinois. His wife was Mary Barringer. Married 10/12/1861 in DeKalb County. Later they moved on to Nebraska. According to C W pension records Mary E Barringer Streeter started drawing a widows pension on 4/21/1896. No doubt Eri died around that date. Mary died in Greely, Colorado in May, 1917. They had at least one child, Hattie, born about 1873 in Illinois.

Other children of Eri and Lucy Sykes were:

Eri W. Streeter who died 2/4/1831 at age 2 years 2 months. He is buried in Cutting Cemetery in Wilmington, Windham, Vermont.

Abner Y Streeter born 1827 Brattleboro, Windham, Vermont. Died 12/16/1863 in Poestenkill, Rensselaer, New York. He is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Poestenkill, Rensselaer, New York. He was married to Angeline UNKNOWN b 1831 died 9/11/1869 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Poestenkill, Rensselaer, New York. One child, named Volney Streeter, is buried with them. Volney was born April, 1854 in Poestenkill, Rensselaer, New York and died there 9/22/1857.

There is one additional female child living in 1840 census that has not been identified.

Eri's wife was Lucy Celina Sikes (sometimes listed as Selina or Silvia in census listings - bad handwriting). Her parents were Samuel Sikes and Lucy Leonard.

Charles Francis Heaton and his wife Mabel Elizabeth _______, and their daughter, Eunice Margaret Heaton b. 14 September 1921; her husband is Elwood Wynn Baumgarner by whom she had three children, whose given names I do not have, as yet.

Are you describing ancestors, descendants or relatives of these? I would appreciate information on any descendants of Stephen and Ursula (Adams) Streeter among those people you describe.

I have reviewed the Streeter Family Association's database, and I do not find a Matilda matching the information that you have identified in this message. There are 5 women with the name Matilda and Streeter, one has another first name, Louise, and one has the middle initial A. None of them has a father David. This means that she has not yet been linked to the Descendants of Stephen and Ursula (Adams) Streeter. I would enjoy working with you to find the connection.

I am descended from William Heaton's sister Clara B. Heaton 1870-. She married Alfred Chambers Scott 1891 in Ripley County Ind. One son Lee Perry Scott 1892-1954. Do you have anything that you could share with our historical commission in regards to photographs or memoirs?

The only picture that I know our commission to possess currently is a photo of Alzina Putnam, wife of Reuben Putnam and granddaughter of Roxanna.

What you have for the early 1600 on up coincides with the information that my sisters and I were able to compile. We are direct descendents of Ray Streeter. We have information dealing with the Wilson, Dudgeon, and Streeter lines. But there are also the some of their wifes lines we could follow.

My name is Dom Ramos, I am an artist of murals living in Lewes, East Sussex, England. I have been commissioned to paint 14 portraits of famous historical figures of the town, including John Streater (1620-77), the printer, polemicist and quartermaster-general of the New Model Army at the time of the English Civil War, born in Lewes and died in debtors' prison in London.

I wondered if you have been able to establish any descendants from him, as there are no known likenesses of the great Parliamentarian, so I want to make an amalgam of any descendents' faces to " reconstruct" a possible one, so to speak. If there are indeed any descendants, could you please pass on thier emails or pass mine on to them with a copy of this email? Your help would be much appreciated, and I will also send a free colour print of the finished result to any Streater/Streeter who wishes to cooperate with my project.

My cousin was Buell Streeter, son of Gray(Henry) and Mary McMahon Streeter. I have not done any research on the Streeter family but just checked the census to see if he may tie into the family of Frederick. I think his grgrandfather was Buell Streeter.

Matilda Streeter & Marvin Eells Palmer Marriage

According to the following transcription Matilda Streeter d/o of David and Lydia Streeter married Martin Eells Palmer in Lysander, NY. I am trying to determine Matilda's lineage. Plainfield, Hampshire County, MA is mentioned however I think every third person in Plainfield was named Streeter. (Marvin is my 3rd cousin 5 times removed, my bet - Matilda is a cousin of mine too.)

My grandmother on my mom's side is Nadine Streeter (Gustafik). Leola was my grandmother's sister. I am not sure if she is still alive. My grandmother passed away in 1994. She and Martin Gustafik lived in Chico California for over 30 years.

I found another post that stated he died in Marion, Grant County, WI, the same date you have. I can't find him either place. Do you have an obit or death record that will clarify for me?

Levi J Streeter - Streeters in Magnolia, Harrison Co, IOWA

Looking for more information on Levi J. Streeter born 1840 in VERMONT.
He lived in Iowa, captured and sent to Andersonville prison during the Civil War, escaped, was returned and died of dysentery. He kept a diary and wrote poems in prison, it has been lost among the family somewhere, i am in search of it.
This branch of the Streeter family settled in Harrison County, IOWA and married into the LOCKLING family who had also emigrated from the Vermont/NH area.
The Streeters and Locklings were pioneer settlers in Harrison County in the 1850's
I have been doing research on-site in Harrison (my ancestral family is all there) and have pictures of gravestones and other things if anyone is interested.

Is there anyone out there who are decendants of this couple? Lennie was born 17 Feb 1887 in Visabia,California to a Sheldon and Luella Streeter. Ethel was born 16 Mar 1893 in Okalhoma. Her maiden name was Robinson. Both died in Stanislaus county, California, Lennie on 30 Jan 1974 and Ethel on 4 Nov 1893. They had five children: Leola,Earnst, Eileen, Richard, and Nadine. I am particularly interested in Leola who married a Emery Ward Graham who was born to John Thomas Graham and Edna Marie Shero.

I would like to see the picture of Leora that you have. Since her parents died so young, she was raised by her grandmother and there was little contact (that I know of) with her family. Leora died when my father was only about 9, and there was an estrangement with my grandfather and his parents, so my dad doesn't remember her at all. I have a photo of her taken when she was about 7, and several pictures from later in life (about 1940s). Contact me offline snesnow AT hotmail DOT com.

I have a lot of Streeters in both my family and my step father's family lines. They come from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Mass. I don't appear to have the specific person you are looking for, but if know any more members of his Vermont family I can check and see if I have anything. The connection to my step fathers family is on a far out branch so I haven't seached much for them and only have the basic line, so I could have a sibling.

Hi Everyone, Silas (b. 22 May 1911 in Norwalk Huron Co. OH) died 3 Jun 1855 in Marion, Grant Co. WI. You can find very complete records at the Wisconsin Historical Soc. UW Platteville WI and they will do a search for you. It includes the widow's (Matilda)authorization for any items in the estate to be sold. There is no "death certificate" as they were not required at that time, but the probate of his will is recorded. I was not able to find a burial place, but the 1858 Land Grant is in that county and it is likely that he was buried somewhere on that land. You can also get a copy of Silas Wesley (b.10 Oct 1842) and Mariah Keith Gurtner's marriage license at the Grant County seat.

My Streeter Family

Hello. I have just found this Board about the Streeter Family. I did not know the family was this big. My Grandfather (still living an Eberly in Ohio), his mother was a Streeter. I just traced on the family through links to other listed family trees to Stephen and Ursula Streeter. My Great Grandmother was Frieda Grace Streeter (1909-1983), her father was Charles Streeter (1866-1942), his father was Edward Streeter (1837-1923), his father was Christopher Streeter (1815-1906). Now from here I hope this is correct. Christopher's father was David Streeter (1765-1854) and his father was Samuel Streeter (1730-1812), and his father was Samuel Streeter (1699-1763) and his father was Samuel Streeter (1671-1752) and his father was Stephen Streeter (1641-1689) and his father was Stephen Streeter (1600-1652) who was married to Ursula, and his father was Stephen Streeter (1570-1616) who was married to Katherine Barnes.
I hope all that is correct.

Frederick Buell STREETER marries Ellen Summers March 1880. Is listed in the 1880 census as living at #24 Maple Street, Glens Falls. For the 1900 Census, they're at #33 Maple Street and have daughters Helen B1881; Edith b 1883 & Elise Hotchkiss Streeter b 1888. 1920 census at #36 Maple Street & Ellen has apparently died; daughters Helen & Elsie are 38 & 31 yrs respectively and still single at home with father.
Frederick seems to be a Physician whose practiced at least 30 yrs if not 40 yrs.
Frederick Buell Streeter is the son of Buell Goodsell Streeter and Lizana D Hotchkiss.
Lizana Hotchkiss is the daughter of Hiram Hotchkiss and Lucinda Pierce of Whitehall.
Seeking to expand this family tree for upcoming publication. Credit will be extended to all contributors.

Am posting this as Kathy & I thought it STRANGE that our STREETER messages, posted on the Warren Co, NY message boards had been "hijacked" to the Streeter Surname board. Have never had anything like that happen before. It's good to know that we weren't "crazy" after all!

In any event, if the Streeter Assoc. should look at this, I herewith post the rest of the Census information that I did last night, that proves out what someone had posted to the Ancestry family trees; but did NOT have any dates or places associated with the names in the tree.

Having difficulty finding Buell and Lizana Streeter in the 1870 census; however, in the 1860 Granville census it's:
