Obituaries for Friday, March 26, 2010

CLINTON — Mrs. Christine Strickland Hayes, 90, of 92 Nathan Dudley Road, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at First Baptist Church, 408 College St., Clinton, with the Rev. Ron Cava officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hayes, a native of Sampson County, was the last of 10 children of Mosberry and Lessie Warren Strickland and was the widow of Lennie Hayes. She and her husband were the owner/operators of several general stores. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Survivors are: a daughter, Peggy Hayes Austin and husband Mel of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Larry Mack Hayes and wife Terry of Youngsville, N.C., and Johnny Lynn Hayes and wife Joy of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Sharon Austin Moll and husband David, Tara Austin Douglas and husband Mark, Kimberly Austin Bamonte and husband Billy, Jason Ryan Hayes and wife Michelle, Jennie Amanda Hayes, Meredith Anne Hayes, and Katie Lynn Hayes; seven great-grandchildren, Ian Douglas, Jillian Douglas, Hayden Douglas, Logan Bamonte, Gavin Bamonte, McKenzie Ryan Hayes and Morgan Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, March 27, the hour prior to the service, at First Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, N.C. 27607 (www.hospiceofwake.org).

The family wants to thank all the caregivers at Hospice of Wake for such loving care given to Ms. Christine.
