DoD Identifies Navy Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Eichmann A. Strickland, 23, of Arlington, Wash., died Sept. 9 from injuries suffered when the vehicle he was driving hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanya Valley, Afghanistan.

Strickland was assigned to Combat Service Support Det. 36, Iwakuni, Japan. He was a member of a US Marine embedded Training Team deployed to Afghan Regional Security Integration Command Central.

I am looking to find-out who the Aaron Strickland in the 1820 census for Tattnall County, Georgia is. I first thought it could be my fourth great-grandfather Stephen Daniel Strickland's Dad but he is said to have died in 1801 in Laurens County, Georgia so unless his death year is wrong it cannot be him. This Aaron Strickland is listed as forty-five & up, there are two males zero to ten, one females zero to ten, one female sixteen to twenty-six & one forty-five & up.

Also the other day I was looking at the census transcription for 1790 Robeson County, North Carolina & noticed there is a Fereby Overstreet listed as head of house with five males & two white females, is this same Fereby/Fairiby Overstreet that married Aaron Jr.?

Could some kind Strickland researcher tell me how each of the Strickland's are related to each other, or not?

My fourth great-grandfather is Stephen Daniel Strickland & his first wife Mary POPP(W)ELL my fourth great-grandmother through their daughter Rebecca who married Daniel GRINER & is related to the Griner's of Tattnall (will gladly share Griner information). Grandfather Stephen Daniel married his second wife Rachel SHAW Chauncey/Chaney with his brother Henry Solomon Strickland as the Justice of the Peace for the ceremony.

I am sure those in the 1820 & up censuses are related somehow but with so many names being the same in the family as a whole I am not quite sure how.

Louise Lee Lawry nee Strickland

I am searching for obituary information for Louise Lee Lawry, wife of Gordon L Lawry. Louise passed away 28 April 1993 and lived in El Paso, TX at the time. She apparently died in Norwood, Massachusetts.

Louise was the daughter of U S Strickland and Abbie Lee Trolinder, born in Texas about 1921. She was in the Women's Army Corps in WWII. Gordon and Louise lived in San Mateo County, CA early in their marriage which was probably late 1940s or early 1950s. They had two daughters, Judith Ann and Randi Louise.

Any information would be helpful.

I have not been able to find Aaron Strickland in the Census after 1860 or before 1850. He purchased land in Houston Co. Georgia after his marriage to Susan Byrd and sold it a few years later. Susan Strickland Baker's obituary mentions that her mother died when she was an infant and it appears that Aaron Strickland did not remarry. There was an Aaron Strickland who won land in the lottery of Houston Co., GA--he resided in Wayne County and signed by "X"--clearly this was not Aaron Strickland, father of Susan, whose signs by signature in his deed of 1833. The only other Strickland in Houston County, GA circa 1835 is a Riley Strickland, mentioned in a list of letters at the Post Office. Was Aaron Strickland who married Susan Byrd related to the Wayne County Stricklands? His census always states that he was born in North Carolina.

Aaron Strickland and Riley Strickland are shown as having letters waiting for them at the Post Office in the year 1836 (next issue April 19, 1836).

I cannot find Aaron Strickland in the 1840 Census—he may be living in the home of his father-in-law, William Byrd. Susan Byrd Strickland died before the Byrd family moved to Russell County, Alabama. The 1st deed I find for Aaron Strickland in Russell Co., AL is dated 1843, when he purchased land from Martin and Caroline Shepherd, neighbors of William Byrd.

Hey everyone. I've recently joined my mother in search of my Strickland ancestral roots and have discovered that I am a direct descendant of Matthew Strickland. Unfortunately I've hit a huge brick wall. I've seen where many have him listed as the son of Jacob, son of Edward, or even a son of James. Most of the messages in regards to Matthew posted on this forum are from several years back. I am lost I am looking for information on my GGG Grandparents. My GG Mother Katie Strickland was born 1888 died May 4, 1955 She is buried In Flotd County Ga. at Pleasant Hill Cemetary. She was married to Will Wiggins( I am at a brick wall with him as well)They Had 3 sons, Arthur, Lewis, and Robert Wiggins also 3 daughters that I know of Lula,Zula and Martha.

Luther W. "Luke" Strickland, 88, of Interlachen, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Putnam Community Medical Center.

He was a native of Edgar and a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He had owned Chesser Strickland Sand Co. for 35 years, having sold it in 1982. He attended the Methodist Church and loved to hunt. He was a friend to those in need. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Mae Vakcars, Eleanor Marie Sanball and Gladys Madge Vincent.

He is survived by a sister, Frances Lee Strickland, of Interlachen, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Bro. Charles Litzell officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetary. Friends may call from 5-6 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

I recently discovered the gg grandmother I have been chasing as Martha LUST was married to ? DAVIS prior to marrying William Wade PATTERSON/PATTISON, with a final marriage to ? STRICKLAND.

With Mr. DAVIS she had one child James Franklin DAVIS b. abt 1863 in MS. By Jan 1865 she is married to William Wade PATTERSON--marriage records show WW PATTISON and Martha E. Davis, they had one child William Lee PATTERSON b. 1867 in TX. The 1880 census shows she has married once again to ? STRICKLAND, now mother of Minnie A. STRICKLAND (md. a DUNLOP), and 3 month old twins Theodore and Theodosia STRICKLAND. Later census records show two HOLMON grandchildren.

I am tracing the Strickland Line from North Florida.(Concord, Gadsden Co.)
I am presently stuck on John Strickland whom I last found in the 1870 census in Gadsden County Florida, from which I got most of the info below. The dates for James M. and Joe C. come from family members/grave markers. I also found that he was married in Decatur Co., GA on August 12, 1853. source GRS 3.04 D3 1st. edition, Marriages, Decatur County, GA (1822-1899).

I know they later migrated to Wakulla Co, FL from Gadsden Co.. James M. remained in Gadsden CO. and Joe C. later returned and settled in Gadsden Co.

If anyone is interested I have info on a lot of the descendants but am interested in any ancestors. I'm willing to share what I have on descendants and would appreciate any input on ancestors or descendants. I would also be interested in any info on Lecicy Dalton.

I am a Strickland descendant due to the marriage between William Reavis and Elizabeth Strickland m. 25 Jun 1806 Warren Co. KY; I'm trying to identify Elizabeth's parents. I found some info some time ago that her and brother Josephs parents were killed early. (lost the data-due to computer crash). Anyway, my grandfather> Joseph Claude Strickland told me I was part Cherokee when I was about 9. I wasn't aware enough to ask who. As an adult I asked other Strickland family and got 3 different stories. Grandpas uncle's son (1891-1998) lived with her in Texas where she died in 1918. He told me he thought she was Dutch. O. S Strickland, a prominent contracting mason of Kay County, and William Shaul of Ponca City were killed while engaged in pulling the frame work from a stone arch bridge near the latter city. The arch fell and the two men were buried under tons of stone. The bodies were horribly mangled when found.

He raised cattle, owned the Shinbone Valley Store forever and worked 4 chicken houses (the old way, by hand). All of the chicken houses were destroyed by a tornado when I was 10 or so.

Guthrie: Amos Strickland of Shawnee has filed with the United States Court of claims at Washington his claim for $4,600, covering his loss incurred by the raiding of his ranch in Wise County, Texas, by a band of Comanche Indians on April 30, 1867. He states that the Indians drove away sixty-seven head of valuable high-bred horses and mares to the value of $3,600, for which he never received compensation. He with other witnesses swear that they followed the trail of the Indians and saw some of the stolen horses in the Comanche village, and that one valuable mare was shot with arrows and killed.

James Wesley Strickland, 93, well known colored resident of Seagrove (NC), Rt 1, the Pleasant Hill community, died Saturday at his home.
Known as "Uncle Jim" to his friends in the Pleasant Hill section, Mr Strickland celebrated his 93 rd birthdayon Aug 12 , 1945,by having a birthday dinner. He was married more than 60 yrs ago to Mrs Margaret Brown, known as "Aunt Margaret", who survives.
Uncle Jim and his two sisters,Mrs Lydia A Maness, Asheboro, and Mrs Mary E. Caviness, Ulah (NC), could remember being bought and sold in the last days of slavery and being reunited in Randolph Co.
Surviving with his wife and two sisters are seven children, Mrs Lena Foust of Greensboro; Mrs Alice Cheek, Mrs Corilla Caviness, Mrs Adeline Leak and Jimmie Strickland of the Pleasant Hill community; Quincey Strickland, of Asheboro; and Harrison Strickland, High Point.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Pleasant Hill Methodist church.

Tracking all children born to Peter and Sarah WILLIAMS STICKLAND born, married, raised their children, and died in New London, CT. Have seen various versions of possble children. I am looking for William who is living between Amos Strickland and Sarah Strickland in 1790 in New London, CT. There are two Peters listed down the page. William then moved to Cheesecoches, Orange co. NY 1800 census I belive. I know he is in Washington co. NY for the 1810 census where his oldest son (my 3ggrandfather, Jesse) is married in 1815 to Clarissa DURKEE. Jesse and Clarissa settle in Orleans co. NY where both are buried. William, his wife and the rest of their children are my project. I do believe that Henrietta STRICKLAND SEBRING MOOREHOUSE (also buried in Orleans, NY) is Jesse's half-sister. I am looking for information about Isom Strickland. He was born in GA, 23 Jul 1817. He married Permelia Hall, dau of John and Mary Hall, in Jul 1837.I haven't been successful in finding a marriage record for Isom and Permelia. They moved to FL, settling in Leon/Wakulla County, FL. He died 7 May 1874 in Wakulla County, FL and is buried in Robison Rough Cemetery. Isom is a mystery; His son, Moses, would tell his children and grandchildren Isom never spoke of his family. Any information and leads would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to find some info on Morgan Strickland, son#10 of Rial Strickland and Lorinda Gager. Family settled in Rodman NY and descends from Peter Strickland 1646 and Elizabeth Comstock

I found Morgan's obit in Jefferson County paper, saying he was born in 1838 & died in 1898 and was buried in Rural Cemetery besides his wife and children.

I found him listed on 1880 census with wife Jane b.1831 and children: Rial b.1864 and Jennie b. 1867.

Would anyone have any info on this family or know who Jane descends from.. Not able to find son Rial in 1900 census..

Any leads greatly appreciated..

Old Photo of Pearl Strickland & her sisters - Louisiana

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos. One of the photos shows four older women. The photo is labeled "Homer's sisters (Becky, May, Allie, Pearl) in Bernice, all dead except Pearl Strickland. She owns her home there; raised six children, two "flyers" sons & four daughters. When her husband died Opal was a baby. She retired as Assistant Post Office Mistress". The photo was taken in Bernice Louisiana, November 2, 1942. Pearl is on the far right. Maybe someone will recognize their ancestors.

Are any of your Strickland's from the Summerville, GA area? The only one I know of to start with is Barney Strickland born 05-01-1909 and died 01-1973. I am sure he has one living sibling, but she can't remember anything about family members or dates. Am waiting for info back from social security.

Hello, I am interested in any available informtion: My great grandafather was Leonidas Strickland from Wake County North Carolina (Raleigh)He married Samantha. Samantha was born in 1885 and died in 1910. They had about 12 children. One daughter was Matilda Strickland born in Wake County, NC. She married Thomas Donaldson from Raleigh. Hey everyone! I am researching the grandchildren of Isaac Strickland of Madison, Co. GA who married Mary Hargrove. Their son Jacob Strickland and his wife (I am unsure of this Jacob's wifes name) had 2 sons, Isaac Strickland, and Jacob "Sanders" Strickland. I have learned a great deal about them through clues from an article I found in the Strickland Scene that was written by A.M. Baxter about a trip he and his brother-in-law, Richard Mack Wheeler made. The purpose of the trip was to visit Isaac and "Sanders" Strickland (brothers) who were cousins of their wifes, Eunice and Abi Strickland who resided in Gwinnett Co. GA., and were the daughters of Henry Strickland. I am especially interested in the location of the Strickland Family Graveyard mentioned in the obit for Isaac 1827-1907. Any info on these two brothers would be greatly appreciated.

My ggrandmother Margaret Strickland was born ca. 1850. 1880 MO Fed Census says she was born in TX. She married my ggrandfather James M. Clipper/Klipper ca 1878. At the time she had a daughter Amanda D. born ca 1873. Margaret's mothers name is Mary F. Strickland on the census and she is living with them at that time. On the 1900 MO Fed Census, Mary F. Strickland (born in MO) is living in the household with James and Margaret Strickland Klipper's children. I don't know Margaret's fathers name, but the census has his birthplace as MO.

Does anyone out there have information on this line of Strickland's?

My great grandfather was Henry A. Strickland. He died around 1961. My greatgrandmother was Ivy (I believe, we called her Grannie). She died in 1959. My grandmother was Gladys Beatrice and she had two sisters. Locations they lived Abilene, Dallas, Ft. Worth and possibly Greenville. Seeking to trace family history further back.
