Thanks for the info. I had viewed your find-a-grave entries, and wanted to contact you, but didn't know how. Charles & Anna had another son, Robert P. Strine (named after Charles C.'s brother no doubt.) Robert lived in Ridley Park, just outside of Phila. I lost track of him after (I believe) the 1920 federal census.
Catharine Welshans is the daughter of Conrad Welshans ans Maria Eva Ledder or Lether. Conrad Welshans was a gunsmith and lived in the city of York. Catharine was born in York in 1782 and died in Milton, PA in 1858. She was married to Mathias Strein (Strine), Sr. He was born in the York area in 1776 and died in Milton in 1862. Mathias and Catharine moved to Harrisburg (1802 - 1803), then Mifflinburg, PA (1806 - 1818), then Milton, PA (1818 - 1860's).

There are several Welshans families in the York area, which are all gunsmiths and somehow related. They emigrated from Germany in the 1730's or 1740's.

hello my name is Nicole, I saw your message. my mothers family moved to arizona after my grandfather committed suicide, i am looking for relatives... strine name isnt a very common last name, so i was wondering if by any chance we could be related??? my grand fathers name was keith edward strine... his wife is dorothy mae strine and she now lives in AZ. MY MOTHERS NAME IS SHERI STRINE. SHE WAS ONE OF KEITHS AND DOROTHYS DAUGHTERS... THERE WAS 3 DAUGHTERS THEY HAD... SHERI(MY MOTHER) GERIANNE,CATHI. MY GRANDMOTHER,DOROTHY DISOWED MY MOTHER WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG. IM LOOKING FOR RELATIVES.. I really truelly would give anything to be apart of my strine side of the family. even tho my grandma disowed my mother,i tryed calling her to maybe build a realationship with her,but she decided to not want one! im not sure why she would want a realatioship with me, i wasnt even born at the time when the whole disoweing took place with her and my mother. i dont really care what happened betwwen them. i just want a relationship with my family that i was deprived from! i have been doing alot of research on my grandfather, and found out alot of different things... i just wish he wouldnt have taken his life because i trully believe if he were here things would have been different! if you are ""cathi"" the daughter of my grandfather keith edward strine, please find it in ur heart to not give me a chance of being your niece because whatever happened in 1976. i am innocent i should be stoned for something my mother may have done. i just want to know my fsmily. i just hope u are that missing link to my search. nicole

John Strine was born in Cumberland County, PA on August 20, 1803. [This appears incorrect. Quickel’s Church records place the family in Conewago Township, York County through 1810.] The Strine family moved to Marion County, OH in 1827 and settled in Richland Township. John Strine, Sr., died July 1843, age 67 and his widow in 1845.

John Strine married Mary, daughter of John and Elizabet Mannassmitb on May 16, 1832. They had twelve children – Margaret, wife of Issac Waddel, John M., Elizabeth, wife of Salmon Boger, James, Martin, Nancy J., Mary M., wife of John M. Drake and William H. Jacob. Three children --Catherine, Peter and Henry E., are deceased. Jacob B. Culp married Catherine Strine and after her death married Margaret Strine wife of Issac Waddel (deceased).

Source

History of Marion County, Ohio
Leggett, Conaway & Company, 1883

Abstract – Biographical Sketch of Henry Strine

Henry Strine was born January 11, 1845, a son of Henry and Mary (Fleming) Strine.

The Strine family originated in Germany and from that country came John Strine, subject’s grandfather, who settled in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [This is incorrect. The family is from York County, Pennsylvania.] John Strine moved to Richland township, Marion County, Ohio in 1820. [John Strine is still listed in the Cumberland County, Pennsylvania census records in 1820.] He lived here the remainder of his life. They were the parents of 10 children – Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, Margaret, John, Philip, Henry, Martin, Jacob and Peter.

Henry Strine, Sr., son of John Strine, was born in Cumberland County, PA. He married Mary Fleming and lived in Cumberland County. He later moved to Marion County to join his father and his brother John. In 1852, Henry Strine moved to Waldo township. They were the parents of 11 children – John, Peter, George, Henry, Abraham, Sarah who married James Harroff, Elizabeth who died aged 23 years, Helen, Margaret, who died aged 21 years, Amanda, who married Henry Gearhiser and a baby daughter that died an infant.

Henry Strine, Jr. was married to Sarah A.
Samuel Strine - Ohio/Indiana

I am seeking information on Samuel Strine, my great-grandfather. He was born in 1845, and died in Defiance Cnty, OH, in 1932. I know he married Mahalia Gustin in Paulding Cnty, OH, in 1883. They had 7 children - Jennie, Anna, Harley, Elmer, Emmitt, Earl & Ora. Census reports from 1900-1930 indicate he was born in Ohio or Indiana, and that his parents were born in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York or Germany - ??? My mother thought he was Pennsylvania Dutch which would lead back to Pennsylvania, but I really have no information on him prior to 1883. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Kathy, I'm fairly certain we're talking about different Strine families - I think yours was in Elkhart, Indiana. My Samuel Strine was born in Auglaize County, Ohio, lived in Paulding County, Ohio and Allen County, Indiana, and died in Defiance County, Ohio. Father was Jacob and had a brother Peter.

Let me know if you think there is a connection. How's everything else with you?

Linda

P.S. could not send to e-mail address you sent. ??
