still looking Charles Nathan Stringfield

I am still looking for any information on Charles Nathan Stringfield m Victoria Adeline Beasley. He had 5 children, 2 known to me--Henry Perry Stringfield,Sr. of St. Louis, MO and Rosie Josephine Stringfield (Ledbetter, Stanley her husbands names) They were married in 1885. I know that Uncle Perry and Aunt Vera(?) had 2 children one was Henry Perry Jr., he was living in St. Louis in 1966.

Charles was buried in Rogers, AR. I was always told that he was a Church of Christ preacher, who lived on a houseboat and traveled the river. He died of cancer.

Hi all.
I'm new to researching family history but our family comes from the Morgan County area of Tennessee. My great-grandfather was Oscar Stringfield who was married to Cecilia Coffman.

My uncle started tracing the family history about 20 years ago and when he died, I've had everything boxed up and recently pulled the box out. Hoping to sort through everything and see how much information I can find.

Her mother was Mary Stringfield, daughter of James and Amanda (Erwin) Stringfield.

Good luck in your further research.
I have been working on the Hixsons since we last spoke. I am in the process of obtaining the copies of the original documents for the Hixsons in MD and TN. In fact, I went to Greene Co. last year and picked up more documents. I couldn't get everything because their printers are so outdated it is hard to get a good copy.

When I decided to do a DAR supplement for Joseph Hixson, I found a major problem. Some cousin has gotten DAR to change the data on our Joseph. I am not sure how they did it, but a genealogist in Wash. looked up the records. The first three people claimed Joseph served from MD which is correct. The last person said the OUR Joseph was the one who served as a teamster from NJ and DAR took it as correct. I am in the process of trying to prove to DAR that a mistake has been made and that we have nothing to tie our Joseph in TN with the one in NJ that they have NOW accepted.

You descend from Joseph Hixson and Susannah (UNKNOWN). Most people call her a Stringfield, but have not found any Timothy Stringfield outside of her son.

They are lised on the 1776 MD Co. cenusus. They moved from MD in the early 1780's and went with the Bowman brothers to Greene Co. NC which later became TN.

My great-great-grandfather who was the grandson of the Timothy Stringfield you mentioned above, was named Timothy Stringfield Hixson, and he signed his name that way when he applied for a civil war pension as a Union soldier. I don't think anyone has ever found where Joseph and Susannah's son ever signed his name Stringfield. My great-great-grandfather was the son of Ephraim, Jr Hixson and Margaret Hixson Hixson. Margaret was the daughter of Timothy S. Hixson and Rebecca Hughes.

My finding the marriage in 1800 of James Stringfield and Nancy Simmons opened a can of worms for me. A researcher had contacted me and told me that my Mary (Polly) was their daughter. Mary (Polly)was born in 1796 and a son was born in 1794 so they could not have been the children of Nancy Simmons. The researcher had no answer for me except to say that she believed Mary was Nancy's daughter. I have never been able to find another marriage for Rev. James but believe he must has been married before. He was born in 1765 so would have been old enough for another marriage. If anyone finds an earlier marriage record for him, I would appreciate being notified. Anna

I know that this might be another dead end. but I have to try. This is what I know in 1905 Charles Nathan Stingfield married Victoria Adelaine Beasley(1869 Linton, IN). They had five children-2 living in 1905 when Victoria came back to Concord, Missouri(near Caruthersville). Two children were Henry Perry Stringfield and Rose Josephine Stingfield Stanley. Charles Nathan was buried in Rogers, AR. He supposedly died of cancer and was a Church of Christ pastor. The family story had my gggrandfather as a cousin to Jesse James. He rode with him one time and that was enough for him.

If you can help me I would appreciate it.

God Bless you and yours,
Peggy

Your James STRINGFIELD (James McKendree Stringfield) was the child of Milton Ray and Rhoda (RHODES) Stringfield. Milton was born 1802 in Warren Co., KY and died 16 Dec. 1856 in Harris Co., TX. Rhoda was born in southwest PA in 1803 and died about 1854 in Harris Co., TX. James McKendree STRINGFIELD was born 15 Oct 1833 in AR Territory and died 30 Sept. 1862 in AR. He married Delilah POWELL 15 July 1860, in DeWitt Co., TX. Delilah was born 5 March 1853 in Frankfort, KY and died 20 May 1932. She was buried in Nockenutt Cemetery, Wilson Co., TX. She was the daughter of Samuel S. and Mary Agnes (STONE) POWELL. Samuel was born 9 Jan 1812. Mary was born 10 Sept. 1820 in KY. Milton's parents were Rev. James STRINGFIELD (b. 1765 in Buncombe Co, NC, d. 24 Sept. 1834, Sangamon Co, IL) and Nancy (SIMMONS) ca. 1775, Roanoke, VA, died 23 Aug, 1835. They married in Warren Co., KY on 21 June 1800. The parents of this Rev. James STRINGFIELD were James, Sr. and Mary Ann (RAY) STRINGFIELD. The sources for this info are mostly other researchers, so I can't guarantee its accuracy, but it is a place for you to start. Good luck in your searching.

My records also show that the husband of Nancy Simmons was Rev. James Stringfield and not Joseph. Ancestry.com records agree. There wasn't a "Joseph" Stringfield appearing in Warren Co., KY at that time. Nancy was the daughter of Peter and Sally Simmons. According to an article by a desc. of James, he and his family moved to Sangamon Co., IL, in 1820, where he was a Methodist minister. "His son Milton married Rhoda Rhodes who was the dau. of Rev. Ebenezer and Mary (Starr) Rhodes." Rev. Rhodes was a founder of Bloomington, IL in 1823 and a Methodist minister, like many Stringfields. Hope this helps.

I don't see a positive response to this anywhere. I remember xeroxing it 10-15 years ago, but can't find it now . . Remember it being maybe 60-70 pages, smaller than 5"x7" pages. Believe I found copies in both the DAR library in D.C. and in the main NYC library -- 34th street ??

Will look again for the copies I made. . . Would be great if one of her descendants could scan it and make it available online !!

> > > > > > bob
I am not sure, but I think that might be my great uncle.
I have been trying to find my grandmothers family, but all my dad can remember is her siblings names, which are, Bessie, Edward, Robert(Bob), Roy, William(Bill), Edith, and Johnny. His moms name was Pearl. He thought that his grandmothers name was Blondie, and his grandfathers John.
However, Blonnie is awfully close, so that just might be it. His mom never talked much about her family, just that she was born in a covered wagon, and that they had lived in Madisonville or Murry Ky, and Tenn.
I know that her dad had gotten into some kind of trouble and they came up here.
If you or anyone else, have any other information, please e-mail me,or post it on here.
Thank You, Debbie

You descend from Joseph Hixson and Susannah (UNKNOWN). Most people call her a Stringfield, but have not found any Timothy Stringfield outside of her son.

They are lised on the 1776 MD Co. cenusus. They moved from MD in the early 1780's and went with the Bowman brothers to Greene Co. NC which later became TN.

The 1776 MD census has the first six children of Joseph and Susannah Hixson listed with their ages. I assume that those 6 were born in Frederick Co. MD.

Andrew has a later census saying that he was born in MD. My Susannah was 4 months old and on the 1850 TN census she states she was born in MD, too.

I can find NO Stringfields in MD, NJ, or PA to be the parents of Susannah. All Stringfields were in Va or NC.

Joseph and Susannah apparently were married near or in MD. They moved to TN in the early 1780's with the Bowman brothers.

Rhoda Rhodes family had several ministers, also.

Found James McKendree Stringfield buried in Tehuacana Cem, Medina Co TX. Tombstone inscription: "Methodist Circuit rider – Tilden, Pleasanton, Uvalde, Texas; Pvt Co K 24 Regt, Texas Cav, C.S.A." Citizen of the Republic of Texas

Re Milton's parents. usgenweb/ky/warren Marriage Index 1797-1870 shows Nancy Simmons married Joseph Stringfield, not James, on June 2, 1800.
