Hi, I am interested in finding out my ancestry. My dad joseph edward strobel lived in upstate ny (poughkeepsie).
His mothers name was Mary I believe. He had a sister from what I remember, but died before he was born. he was born in November of 1929. His dads name was also joseph. I can probably get a little more history to help if I dig around in some old letters.

I am related to the NY "Stroebele's". My last name is however spelled "Stroebel". Our's is incorrectly spelled. Coming from Sigmaringen, Germany in 1883, the umlat was removed and an "e" was inserted for proper English, thus "Stroebele"

The NY Stroebele family I speak of is in the Albany, NY area and the patriarch was John Joseph Stroebele, Jr., He moved from Jersey City to Albany around 1915 with wife Linda Fritchie. Today, the Albany Stroebele family is much larger.

Dave

Therese STROBEL and Frank Bauer

I'm interested in contacting someone connected with Therese Strobel and Frank Bauer who were married in Russelleville, MO in 1907. I found this information on line:
*************************
Franz W. Bauer

Much of the excellence of the product of the Capital Brewery was due to the skill of the brewmaster, Franz W. Bauer. Mr. Bauer learned his trade thoroughly as a youth in Germany, the land of his birth, where the brewing of good beer is one of the fine arts. He came to Jefferson City in the late 1800s at the request of Jacob F. Moerschel, for whom he had worked in St. Louis.

Franz Bauer was born around 1866 and came to America at the age of sixteen. He worked for a time at Evansville, then in St. Louis, and later in Pennsylvania whither he was brought to Jefferson City by Jacob F. Moerschel. In St. Louis in 1897, he was married to Miss Emma Korener, who died in 1905 leaving one daughter, Emma. Emma married John Jourdan and they had four children: Ronnie May, Ruth, Frankie and Willie. In 1907 Mr. Bauer married Teresa Strobel of Cole County, daughter of Erhardt and Johanna Strobel of near Russellville. Karl W., one of the two sons born to this marriage, graduated at West Point and became an aviator. In 1936 at the age of twenty-seven he was killed in an airplane accident. The other son, Frank, learned the art of his father under the latter’s instruction and became brewmaster for the Hollenkamp Products Company in Dayton, Ohio. He married and had a daughter, Frankie Jean.
***************************

Please contact me if you are related to this family.
Where did your Philip Strobel live in the U.S.? My wife has two Strobel lines, came from Lampertheim, Germany in the early l700's to the colony of S.C. 2 some say 3 brothers and l sister a lst cousin. By the l830's to l850's some of these Strobels left S.C. and went to Texas,Florida, N.Y. France and England, those that went to Europe later returned also went to N.Y. about l832. Some stayed in S.C. and are still there today, one branch of the family about l820's started using the spelling of Stroble. There are a number of Philips and many many Daniels in my wife's Strobel family. We do have some records on those who went up to yankee land to live.

Strobels/Phil Brueck

Rev. P.A. Strobel, as you say was a son of John Strobel, son of Capt. Daniel Strobel of the Charleston German Fusiliers in the Rev. War (we have a handwritten account of this. Daniel was a younger brother of Johann Casper Strobel Jr. and Catherine Elizabeth Strobel who married Lewis J. Carn all who had gone to S.C. a few years before Daniel. Daniel was a son of Johann Casper Strobel Sr. and he a son of Paul Strobel and Paul a son of Andreas Strobel. I have the wife's names and some of their fathers but not with me at the moment. There was another Capt. Daniel Strobel who was the nephew of your Capt. Daniel Strobel. so it gets alittle confusing at times. Your Capt. Daniel after being under house arrest after being captured by the British managed to get his older brother Johann Casper Strobel Jr. released from his chains Just before he died. He was being held prisoner by the British in the cellar of the Exchange building in Charleston (twice) because his sons were serving in the American Army, one son had released him earlier by pretending to go over to the British side. We have a copy of the book your Rev. P.A. Strobel wrote (a reprint). One of his brothers, William D. Strobel was also a Lutheran Minister. My wife descends twice from Capt. Daniel's sister. Have corresponded over the years with a number of Strobel relatives but none from Your Capt. Daniel's line. All those Charleston Strobels are your relatives. One of the members of our local Sons of Confederate Veterans camp has a Strobel line, we knew him over a year before we found out he was my wife's cousin. Will send you more on your line later. Don't usually do computers, you can contact me at 320 Howard Lane, Melbourne, Fl. 32935.

Glad to find out Rev. P.A. Strobel had descendants, knew he was married 3 times , churchs when where he served year and place he died but nothing on any children. If I figured it right, you Maxine are 6th cousins once removed thru the Strobel family twice. Many of your line are buried at St. John's Lutheran Church Cem. in Charleston. Have a photo copy of Capt. Daniel in his later years. The other Philip you mentioned was an uncle of your Philip he was about 5 when he died in l782. Your Philip was the 9th child of ll. The book he wrote was "History of the Salzburgers in Georgia", there is no family info in it.

Most of the work done on the Strobles who went to Fla. was done by Darryl Greenwood who desc. from Jacob's brother, David L. Strobel relatives have been doing research for long before our parents were born. We live in Fla. about l40 miles southeast of where the Strobles lived.
Glad you found some info on Rayford/Raiford Strobel. Briefly to show your line, Andreas Strobel d. l693 Lampertheim, Germany, his son, Paul Strobel, his son , Johann Casper Strobel Sr., His son, Johann Casper Strobel Jr., his son Daniel Strobel, his son, Daniel Strobel Jr. his son, Jacob G. Strobel. By the time of Daniel Jr. most of your line is using the spelling of Stroble. Of those who came to the colony of S.C. were J.Casper Strobel Jr, brother, Johann Jacob, sister Catherine Elizabeth, and cousin, Frederick Strobel, later brother Daniel followed his 2 brothers sister to S.C. Confusion usually is with Casper Jr.s son Daniel Casper Jr.s brother Daniel as both are known as Capt. Daniel Strobel of course both these Daniel's had sons named Daniel. Thank you, hope you have a merry Christmas also, we're dreaming of a green Christmas ,just like the ones we've always known.

KATHY,
SINCE YOUR GREAT GRANDMOTHER DIED IN 1942, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A COPY OF HER DEATH CERTIFICATE WHICH SHOULD LIST THE NAMES OF HER PARENTS. IF NOT LISTED, YOU COULD CHECK THE 1870,1880 AND POSSIBLY THE 1890 CENSUS RECORDS TO FIND HER AS A CHILD IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF HER PARENTS.
EVIDENTLY SOME OF THE N.Y. STROBELS HADN'T BEEN IN COUNTRY VERY LONG, SOME OF THE ROCHESTER, N.Y. STROBELS DESCEND FROM THE 2 LUTHERAN MINISTERS THAT WERE FROM THE S.C. STROBELS WHO WENT TO N.Y. IN THE 1830'S.

JONATHAN,
POSSIBLY ONE OF THE N.Y. STROBELS/STROBELES WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION BETTER.
SPELLING OF A SURNAME CAN CHANGE FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT FROM ONE BRANCH OF THE FAMILY TO THE NEXT ALSO. I HAVE SEEN STROBEL-STROBLE-STROBL-STROBELE AND IN EARLIER RECORDS, STRUBEL STROUBEL.
THERE ARE FAMILIES WITH THESE NAMES WHO CAME FROM VARIOUS PARTS OF GERMANY AND ALSO FROM POLAND SO ALTHOUGH THEY SHARE A COMMON NAME DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE RELATED.
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THERE ARE STROBELS (ETC.) IN N.Y. WHO CAME DIRECTLY FROM GERMANY AND ALSO POLAND. THERE ARE SOME STROBELS IN N.Y. WHO ORIGINALY CAME FROM MY WIFE'S S.C. FAMILY, TWO BROTHERS OF THAT LINE, BOTH LUTHERAN MINISTERS WENT TO N.Y. IN THE 1830'S AND THEIR DESCENDANTS REMAINDED THERE FOR THE MOST PART.
IN MY WIFE'S FAMILY, SOME STARTED USING STROBLE WHILE THEIR HALF BROTHERS KEPT STROBEL (THIS IN THE MID 1800'S).
SO I GUESS BASICALLY YOU HAVE TO TRY TO GET BACK ALITTLE FATHER THAN YOUR GRANDFATHER TO SEE WHO YOU BELONG TO.
GOOD LUCK!!!

My family arrived in New York City in 1872 and left Erie, Pa in 18775 or 1876 to come to Kansas. I assume there were relatives in Erie, but do not know. John's wife's name was Fuchs and I thought maybe some of her relatives might have been there. They came from Haid, Bavaria which is in the Sulzbachrosenberg providence/county. If you think we might be of the same family let me know as I have been to that part of Germany and have done some research in Regensburg Evangelical Lutheran Church records. So many questions our parents didn't think to ask.
Arluvene
