Irene Strohl (Eisenbach)

Hi all,

I am looking for any information about Irene May Strohl (Eisenbach) and her family. Irene was born 1914, died 18 Feb 1954. She married Franklin Earl Eisenbach and they had 3 children.

Irene was the daughter of Ira Wilmer Joel Strohl (born 28 Apr 1885) and his wife Anna Estelle (last name unknown). I am especially interested in learning Anna's maiden name so that I can continue researching that line. Right now I'm at a brick wall.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

---------------------- Trilby
Forest received a honorable discharge from the US Army on December 10, 1925, and died some years later with kidney disease. If this sounds faniliar to any, please let me know. When my mothers father died, all contact with that side of her family came to an end (Why?). I'd just like to know something of that side of my family, as Forest would have been my grandfather.

Re: Nicholas D. Strohl in PA

The Strohl family appears to have settled originally in what is now Towamensing Township of Carbon County and then immigrated from there. You might find information in Bucks County records because this area was originally included in Bucks County.
According to the book Pennsylvania Births Carbon, Monroe, Schuylkill Counties by John T. Humphrey in the Carbon County Section (1795-1825)page 38 in regard to the Strohl Family.
Records of Towamensing Lutheran and Reformed Church, Towamensing Township, birth records from 1789 are included.
Nicolaus [Daniel] Strohl was born 18 May 1798 (Northampton County (now Carbon 1843), son of Daniel Strohl. The book also mentions a Daniel and Barbara as having a son Johannes born 07 Nov 1800, probably Nicholas D's brother.
Nicholas D. appears to have remained in Towamensing Twp. having died in that township on 29 Aug 1887. Nicholas D. was married to Barbara Lenhart. Their children: Ellen (c. 1824-?; the book mentioned above lists only a Helene (probably Ellen B: 21 Oct 1824). The others born later are Sara or Sallie (c. 1826-?); John (c. 1828-1895); Lavinia (c. 1830 - 1900 Berks County); James (10 Oct 1832-26 July 1865); Matilde(10 Oct 1838-09 Mar 1919); Eliza (c.1839-?); Mary Ann (c. 1842-?); and Allen (24 Apr 1844-19 Apr 1863).

Most of my relatives are descended from Nicholas C. [Conrad] Strohl, probably a son Conrad and Rosina Strohl. Someone seems to have two more ancestors for Nicholas C., Conrad3, John Nicholas 2, and Nicholaus Peter1). Nicholas C. was married three times and had a very large family (38 children of which 31 names are known). Quite a few of Nicholas C.'s children seemed to have wandered northward into what is now Monroe County as well as westward. There are no Strohls mentioned in the Monroe or the Schuylkill County sections of the book. I do not know about Nicholas D's descendants, but you probably would want to move westward and look at Western Pennsylvania and Ohio for descendants.

Hi, Shiela, is it?
This is Evan Strohl---we have talked before.

I'm just reviewing old Strohl Message
Boards and saw your query about Elizabeth and Daniel. Have you found out anymore NEW info??
If so, would you mind sharing it with me?

I don't know if we have talked about this, but I
believe that Elizabeth (STROHL) is actually the
"Betsey, wife of Daniel Zellman" who is listed as
one of Nicholas D. Strohl's sisters, and Daniel
STROHL's daughter, on the LW&T of Daniel STROHL---
what do YOU think. I might have even sent that
to you at one time.

Do you have any thoughts about this??
Dro me a line if so. Thanks,

Evan R.

Hi Barbara,

I'm descended from John Strohl (1830-1897), who seems to be a brother to your Lavina and a son of Nicholas D "Stroal" Strohl. Brother John listed with this family in the 1850 census says his age is 22 years. Could his grave marker or the census record be incorrect? I am conviced that it's him because there's only one farm between him and 14-year old Matilda Boyer, his future wife.

There are two family trees at Rootsweb that give a couple of generations of ancestry for Nicholas D. Neither one gives references, so you will have to confirm the data - treat them as clues:

Spouse: Barbara ?
Father: Daniel Strohl(~1750-?)
Mother: Barbara Borger (~1752-?)
Paternal Grandfather: Andrew Strohl (?-~1754)
Paternal Grandmother: Maria Catherina ? (?-?)
Maternal Grandfather: Johann Nicholas Borger (1720-1791)
Maternal Grandmother: Otilla Schaffer (1725-1782)

Bruce

Hi Doug,
I am researching John W.(I believe) Strohl B 1821, son of John Nicholas B 1773. John Nicholas is supposed to be the son of Peter Strohl B 1714, but this seems unlikely to me. I feel that a generation might be missing. I'm hoping you can help me sort this out. It appears that, because the Strohls were using a handful of first names, the genealogy has become entangled. Without dates it is hard to follow the lineage. Please advise if you have info on this line. I'll be glad to share any info I have with you. Thanks, Bobbie

Christian STROHL, Hessian soldier of the AmRev.

Having checked all messages for the keywords Christian, Hessen, and Hessian, and noticed that these words do
not appear in any of the almost 100 messages, I assume
that either it is unknown that this man existed, or his
descendants have not found him as yet. In this case I am
quite happy to help a bit: See Reference HETRINA VI,
the military listings of the Staatsarchiv Marburg, Hessen.
Page 481- STROHL, Christian, age 24 (1751/52) born
at Rumpenheim am Main (south of the river Rhein near
Offenbach/Frabkfurt), served with The Hessen-Hanau Regiment Erbprinz since Feb.1776, went with the Regt. to
Canada, landed there in June 1776. In summer of 1777
his Regiment became part of the Burgoyne Army which
was supposed to move south and split the colonies in two.
British plans went awfully wrong, the Burgoyne army was
stopped by American forces near Saratoga and General
Burgoyne had to surrender his whole army on Oct. 21.1777.
This included Christian Strohl. He was kept a prisoner til
Sep. 1782 when he sold himself to a German? farmer,
who, I am not sure, may have later become his father-in-law.
This should be possible to confirm through local church
records. So if you have a brickwall somewhere and can't
find your true ancestor, and you are a STROLE or a STROHL,
do not overlook this connection.
John Merz, searching for Hessian soldiers of the AmRev.
http://home.cogeco.ca/~hessian

Hi, Sheila,
Someone just past your post to me---re: Elizabeth STROHL/Daniel Zellner-

Just some food for thought:
I have a Betsey STROHL, b. ca 1790-95, m. to a Daniel ZELLMAN. nothing else known of these two. However, the Betsey is easily a nickname of Elizabeth, and the time frame is right. Betsey's parents were Daniel STROHL and Barbara ( ? ). According to my research, he siblings would include (if I'm correct), Nicholas D. STROHL, Peter STROHL, b. 1792 (ancestor of the Nesquehoning STROHLs), and my own Johann Adam STROHL, b. 1800, early of Monroe Co; then Johann's children mig to Lehigh Co and Carbon Cos. including Weatherly, and eventually Hazleton.

Hope it helps in some way-- I think we have corresponded in the past--would you let me know what you find out, pls? I'd love to know more about Daniel's family.

Thanks,
Evan

Re: Strohl, Lulu W. (Walters) obit

Lulu is my great grandmother. She was born June 1890. Her son Donald is my grandfather and he is currently living in Easton. Lulu, Jeremiah and some of their children (Lester, Albert, Robert, Natalie) are buried in Easton Heights cemetary. Her husband was Jeremiah W. Strohl, son of Levi Strohl (by second wife Sarah), son of Nocholas C Strohl (by second wife Sarah Weiss).

The connection between Jeremiah and Levi is based on my reading of the 1910 census records for Lower Towamensing, Carbon Co. Jeremiah the son of Levi is the only Jeremiah Strohl in that census in Pa of the right age to be my great grandfather. And the close proximity to Easton makes it likely. I need to track down the marriage/birth records to be sure however.

Nocholas C Strohl of Lower Towamensing, Carbon County PA is the source of many Strohl decendents...he had something like 33 kids from three wives.

I do not know who Lulu's mother was. Most of her siblings are from Thomas Walter's second wife Elizabeth. For example see the 1900 federal census for Bucks county where Thomas,Lizzie (elizabeth), Albert, Lulu, Mary Alice, Leona Merie and Austin Thomas appear. Albert, Lulu, and Mary Alice are children of the first wife.

My grandfather Donald Strohl told me that his mother was, at one time, in possesion of the Walters Family bible. After her death in 1963 her sister Leona came and reclaimed it. It supposedly had the names and birthdates for the walters family for some time. I would dearly love to know who has that bible now.

Hi Michelle,
what sort of info would you need? I don't know much of anything about Elizabeth's family, thats what I am trying to find out.

I have a few photos of her older but nothing of her very young. Would those help?
I don't have a birthdate for Elizabeth, but she was 36 in 1910 for that years' census which means she was born in 1874.

I don't know where her family originates from nor Alvin's. So I can't help you there. But anyting we can connect would be great. Email me at lovestitchn@yahoo.com and we can do emails which is faster.

thanks
Lucy

from Northampton area. She was my great grandmother and I am trying to find her side of the family, the Strohl's as well as her husband's side, the Schaffer's from Northampton.
She was married to Alvin Franklin Schaffer and they lived at 1357 Main St. Norhtampton. PA. Alvin died Mar. 27, 1914 at age of 46 and "Lizzie" remarried someone with last name of Jackson who ripped her off of her inheritance from my great grandfathers soap factory and then she remarried again, someone named Zellers.
Elizabeth and Alvin had 7 children, Estella M. Schaffer, Lillian I, Viola L, Leon N. Martin A, and Clarence F. also an infant that was struck by lightening and was petrified.
she had no other children in her other two marriages, but i understand that the Jackson guy when he took off left her his 4 kids to raise.
Any info on either side would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Lucy Hampton

(May), in Slatington, Mrs. Elizabeth Zellner, widow of Daniel Zellner, aged 79 y. 3 m. 14 days.

So she would have been born 15 Feb 1792. I don't know if you or Evan have concluded that his Betsy and your Elizabeth are the same person or not but I'd be interested if you have. No parents are listed but this will give you birth and death dates.

Michelle

Re: Strohl Genealogy

Hi Daniel,
I'm connected to this family as well. I always thought her name was Veronika not Verona but anyway, this is how she's connected. She was the daughter of Dewalt Strohl (1805-1863) and Catherine (maiden name is possibly Strohl too, but I have a theory on that), she was born in 1810 but I have no death date on her. Dewalt and Catherine had the following children: Christiana, Veronika, Benjamin, Amelia (my gg grandmother), Reuben, Helena, David, and Catherine.

Dewalt is the son of Leonard Strohl and Margarethe (last name unknown). Leonard was born between 1750-1760. I have no dates for Margarethe.

Please email me. I'd like to know about your connection to the family with Amanda. Also, do you have info on the Eckerts? I'm connected to them too I believe.

thanks.
Michelle

michelle(at)winstanley(dot)com

HI Norma,
Please email me. I'm not personally doing research on Michael Strohl but I am descended from Daniel and Leonard Strohl. These two are possible brothers of Michael (son's of Peter Strohl).

But, I do have an unpublished history of the Strohl family written by another Strohl researcher and a way to contact him.

please email me: michelle(at)winstanley(dot)com

Michelle

Hi Jamiee,
Yes I believe we have corresponded before and I am a descendent of Amelia Strohl and Emanuel Berger.

I'm curious where you were told the Leonard is not a son of Peter. I do not have any conclusive data to support that as of yet, most of my info has been with collaborating with Even Strohl. It's a theory as of now that Leonard is a son of Peter. But if someone else has proof that this is not true I'd like to see it as well.

Please email me and we can compare notes. I believe I've gotten a lot more info since the last time we corresponded.

Michelle
Lucy,
I have info on Strohls but it's hard to connect with the info you gave. Do you know anything about Elizabeth's parents? Or her birthdate? Most of the Strohl info I have is from Carbon Co but there still could be a connection.

Michelle
