Specifically we're fourth cousins once removed. If you've done much Strother genealogy research our common ancestor is Richard Strother, you're a descendent of his son William, and I'm a descendent of his son Francis. You can e-mail me at graywolf64@Comcast.net, if you want to, instead of going through the messageboard.

Eric Strother

What documentation do you have that this is the son of Judd Strother? I am a descendent of his second marriage to Elizabeth Sullivan and have information on his son from his first marriage, William. Judd doesn't mention Robert in his will. I do know that sometimes for whatever reason that a child is not mentioned but I wondered about the connection. I have heard of this son before but I have never seen any documentation.

Hello,

Looking for info on the family of Sarah Jane Strother who
married the Hon. William Edwards in Sabine County, Texas. Was William Edwards a judge or statemen since he has the title of honorable?

The children were Walter or Robert Walter Edwards,
William C. Edwards,James P. Edwards and Martha Edwards.

Both Sarah Jane and her husband William died by 1860. The children go to live with Sarah Jane's father Walter Strother and his 2nd wife Prudence Gough Yeiser. By 1870 Walter Strother has died and his wife Prudence marries Jesse Weeks and lives in Navarro County, Texas. Prudence continues to care for her step-grand children until her death in 1893. In Prudence's will only William C. and James P. Edwards are mentioned of the Edwards children. Does anyone know what happened to Martha and Robert Walter Edwards?
Are there any known descendants of William C. and James P. Edwards?

Thanks for any help

Maybe someone can address these questions:

Who were Peggy Strother's parents?

Was James Mason Strother actually their son?

My ultimate intent is to untangle the ancestry of Sarah Agnes Utterback, who married Edward Malcolm Kendall in Fauquier county in 1909. They had a daughter, Mayme Christine, who was my grandson's great-grandmother. Is that complicated enough?

Thank you very much. Barbara Ball

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...

Your line goes from Jeremiah > Francis (married Susannah Dabney?). If so your Francis and my Christopher Judd (married Anne Kemp) were brothers. There's so many Jeremiahs and Francises in this line it's confusing.

I'll email you the particulars....

Historically marked Strother grave

Thought this might be of interest to Strother descendants.

In Collin County Texas near the town of Anna, (north of Dallas) stands a small cemetery called Highland Cemetery. It is well maintained and still in use. The first marked grave in the cemetery is that of:
Robert French Strother, b Nov 11, 1785 Franklin County, North Carolina; d Jun 21, 1861 Collin County, Texas.

R.F.'s burial site has been noted on a large bronze historical marker issued by the Texas State Historical Commission in front of the cemetery. Some family trees I have seen show this descendent to have died in Tennessee, however this is not the case. He is, with his son (Western Green Strother) the first Strother's to have settled in Texas (then known as the Republic of Texas) in 1854. W.G. purchased 1000 acres in Collin County, part of the Peter's Colony established by Rep of Tx in 1841.

R.F.'s ancestry is:
< Judd Strother, b Feb 23, 1771, d Dec 15, 1857;
< Christopher Judd Strother, b 1715, d 1741;
< Jeremiah Strother, b 1655, d 1741;
< William Strother (the Immigrant).

Robert French Strother's descendants (that are also buried at this cemetery) are:
> Weston (or Western) Green Strother, b Mar 28, 1816 Murfreesboro, TN, d Dec 24 1900 Anna, TX;
> James Lafayette Strother, b Aug 17, 1879 Collin County, TX, d Oct 25, 1952 Anna, TX;
> Guy Orlando Strother (my father), b Oct 4, 1916 Anna, TX, d Sept 23, 1999 Fort Worth, TX, buried at Anna.

Note: W.G., my father's grandfather was born 100 years before him, wow! And my grandfather J.L. was born 81 years before me! S-t-r-e-t-c-h those generations!! Not uncommon, look at Jeremiah and Judd, 116 years difference between grandfather and grandson!! Crazy!

There are other Strother descendants buried here as well, most probably descendants of R.F. and W.G.

I have the names of R.F.'s descendants as well as W.G.'s, but it would go on forever, these are large farm families! If interested, please post back.

Strother woman marries Blackwell in VA, c 1790

I am searching for the ancestors of one Strother Blackwell, b. in the 1790s in VA. I believe Strother is a family name and that he was born to a Strother woman who married a Blackwell, maybe in Culpepper or Fauquier Co, VA, around 1790. This Strother Blackwell later migrated to Henderson Co., TN. Do any Strother family researchers know of any Strother women who might fit into this pattern?

Re: Historically marked Strother grave - Augusta Missouri Strother

I am looking for confirmation of a possible descendant of Robert French Strother. The 1850 US Census in Shelby Co, Tn, shows Robert, his wife, Hannah, son Milton, daughter Elizabeth Tyler [widowed] and her two children, Frances and Lewis. Then there are four other children listed: "Parilu [sp?] Strother; Elvira, MISSOURI and Louisiana. Are these last four, children of Milton Strother, or of Robert French Strother?
It is Missouri in whom I am interested. Found reference in a Nicholson family tree that an AUGUSTA MISSOURI STROTHER married in 1860 JOHN M NICHOLSON, b 1836, williamson Co, TN, - either in Texas or Tennessee. They are found in subsequent census records in Collin Co, Tx. Since Robert French and John Milton both moved to this area also, I am fairly confident this Missouri Nicholson is connected to the Strothers, but would like confirmation.
Another question: How do we know Judd Strother of NC/Tn was Robert's father? Robert's date of birth is 1785, but the marriage date of Judd and Rebecca Perry is 1787. I noticed other Strother family trees list father of Robert French Strother as a French Strother of Virginia. However, I can find no French Strother of Va living in NC about the time of Robert French's birth. Did Judd also go by the name French? It seems to be found as a middle name quite often in this family! One interesting tidbit, is that a Coleman Strother is listed in 1840 Census in Shelby Co, Tn next to Robert, which seems to lend credence to the French Strother of Va theory, since he was married to a Coleman. These little inconsistencies bother me.
Any additional information anyone can offer will be much appreciated. I apologize for the length of this query! I hope it is not too confusing.

I replied to your message a few weeks ago, and you sent me the information on this line of Strother's and said you had some more information if I wanted it, and I replied back saying that I did, but haven't heard back. So when you get a chance, could you please send me the rest of the information? Thanks
your cousin.
Eric Strother

I replied before but haven't heard back from you, so I'll try again in case there was some kind of mix up. I would like a copy of the information you have, my line comes from Jeremiah Strother. I would like a picture of the marker issued by the state of Texas about Robert M. Strother if you can get one for me. I would really appreciate it. My e-mail address is Graywolf64@Comcast.net. Thanks.

Eric Strother

I'd like to see the information you have on the family tree, my line comes from Jeremiah's son Francis, so I'd be very interested in the information you have.

Eric Strother
