Paul G. Stuart, 88,
a retired mechanic for Stuart Hardware and Garage, a business he owned and operated for 20 years, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville, N.Y.

He was born July 15, 1921, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Paul G. and Arvilla (Fullington) Stuart.

He served in the Army during World War II having attained the rank of Technical Sergeant enlisting on Nov. 11, 1942 at Buffalo, N.Y., discharged on Oct. 19, 1945, at Mitchel Field, N.Y.

Paul was a member of the Otto Volunteer Fire Department for more than 57 years, the Cattaraugus County Fire Chiefs Association,
Little Valley, Cattaraugus Area Historical Society, Allegheny Mountain Engine and Inplement Association and the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association.
He attended the East
Otto United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. (Dankert) Stuart of Cattaraugus, N.Y., whom he married on June 25, 1944; a son, Owen P. (Karen) Stuart of Merritt Island, Fla.; two daughters: Dolores S. Powell of Fairfax, Va.,
and Norma Jeanne

(Gary) Andrews of Sinclairville, N.Y.;
a grandson, James Powell of Lorton, Va.; three granddaughters Michele Trammell of Batavia, Ohio, Nichole Stuart of Bloomington, Ind., and Erica Stuart of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; two sisters: Elena Fairfield of Hindsdale, N.Y.,
and Lois Wendl of Rochester, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 South Main St., Cattaraugus, N.Y. The Rev. David Piatt of Cattaraugus will officiate.

Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery in Otto.

Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Family suggests memorials to Otto Volunteer Fire Department, Jark Road, Otto NY 14766.

I am Paul G. Stuart's granddaughter. Paul passed away this morning 11/5/2009. I'm afraid I don't know much about his side of the family, other than his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Your post has actually filled in some blanks for me.

Hi William,

Perhaps this is old information, but there may be a few of your Stuart's buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, Allegan County, MI. Also, there is a lot of information available about the Stuart Chair Facrory in Otsego.

Look here for tombstone photos. I don't believe all the Stuart's in the burial records have photos up on the website.

Need help locating my 4 gg grandfather James Stuart he was a policeman in England before coming to South Aust 1838 for the police force he arrived as a sub Insoectof and was made Inspector of Port and City. In a letter he state nine years with the Brittish police force.
His son William was born in Greenwich 1835.
He along with five children and wife Sarah arived on the Rajastan
I have tried your museums and police force in general area but not Knowing locations in England have run out of ideas,

We've communicated before (I'm a gggreat granddaughter of George Wilson Ellison). I'm writing to see if you've made any headway with Jesse's parents? I also hope you might have some information for Jane D.S. Ellison, b: 1832 - such as her actual birth information.

I've discovered that there is a long connection between the Stuarts and Allisons back before Jesse and wonder if he isn't some realtion to Ann Allison who married David Stuart. The spelling might be different but it's not uncommon back then.

I am working on my own genealogy, and do my best to help others when I can. I ran across the family Bible of O.L. Stuart at an auction. I am looking for a direct descendant of this family to try and get the Bible back into the family.

There is birth, marriage, and death information written in the Bible, as well as several hand-written pages (loose) added to the section - which include the births of some of the grandchildren.

This Bible was "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1892,..." and signed on the back inside cover by "O. Stuart" September 30, 1899.

I will send digital copies of the pages to anyone interested in this family. The first direct descendant to contact me that is interested in this Bible will have the opportunity to have it. I purchased it at auction for $9.00 and only ask for what I paid and any shipping costs. (I am not wanting to make money off this .... I only want what I paid for it so I am not out anything.) I want to help get this Bible back into the hands of the family in which it belongs. Maybe I'll be lucky and someday come across someone with a Bible in one of my lines willing to do the same! If it were one of my lines, to me it would be priceless. It breaks my heart that such a valuable genealogy tool (not to mention family heirloom), could be sold at a public auction. I am hoping that there is someone out there that is a direct descendant of this family that is interested in genealogy and would appreciate the true value of this Bible. (I only wish it were my line! What a find!!)

Looking for the parents of Nancy Stuart b. abt 1720 to 1730 possibly in Virginia

I am looking for the ancestors of my 6th great grandmother, Nancy Stuart. She married Thomas Spencer. I don't have a birth date for her, but since Thomas was born abt 1720, I'm guessing she was born between 1720 and 1730. The children of Nancy and Thomas were Sarah, William (my ancestor),John, Jane, Catherine, and Elizabeth. The oldest child (Sarah) was born about 1759.

Does anyone know who Nancy's parents were?

Grandmother(2x) was Margaret from Maine she married a Charles Cook have no idea on birth death parents siblings nothing she would have been alive sometime in the 1800s, my Stuarts from Maine were also descending from Mary Stuart of Scotland(QUeen of Scots) do you have records/names from that time period, I see your looking into 1600s not 18800s so I assume you have them?

The only thing I know is my great grandmother was Margaret Stuart she was from Maine, but have no idea what she had for children other than the ones that produced me and no idea of siblings.

I am seeking information on the parents and place of birth for Hannah Stuart, born Sept. 17, 1787 in North Carolina.
She died April 6, 1869 in Schley County Georgia. She married John Reid(1782-1871) sometime before 1810, and they left NC for Georgia in 1819.

Her children were Isabella, Joseph W., John Stewart, James Allen, Alexander Columbus, Bennett J., Warren Lanier, Othniel Lamar, and Emily C. The first 3 were born in NC, and the rest were born in Georgia.

I have lots of information on the family in Georgia, but can find nothing about their NC connections--there are lots of John Reids, but none that match. I can find nothing on Hannah.

Any help is appreciated.

A couple of years ago we found out that Patrick Stuart, Detroit MI (b: 1820 in Ireland, d: 1903, Detroit, MI) was my g, g, grandfather. His parents were Philip and Ellen (German) Stuart, in Ireland. Philip was born in Scotland, but I can find nothing on his parents, nor Ellen's parents (Ireland). It's my understanding that Patrick was the 3rd child of four, but I cannot find anything on his siblings either. Any help is appreciated.

The census information give his siblings as John, Charles, Betsey, Paul, William and Albert. I am afraid there is no Margaret in that generation of which I am aware. The family lived in Norfolk County Ontario and can be found in the Canadian Census Collections from 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 in the Townsend, Norfolk (North/Nord), Ontario, Canada section.

I am trying to trace this Stuart line back to Scotland. I have from a Canadian Census that the widowed Mother of James was Robina born around 1820 died 1903. I believe her maiden name to be McIntosh, but I am unclear. If anyone has any information about this line going back I would be very appreciative.
