Just read your e-mail and reviewed your info on geneanet. While I don't see a specific match, there must be a relationship between our families. How many Stucky (Stucki) family members could there be in the 1500s and 1600s?

I am from Illinois, USA. From where are you?

Johann Stucky / John Stucky Chicago?

My Great Great Grandfather Johann Stucky was married to Anna Kaufman in SD. Anna died shortly after giving birth to she and Johann's second Child. Johann was reported as having moved to Chicago and as having become a Policeman that was killed in the line of duty approx 1901.
I don't know if Johann (John) remarried or had any children in the approx 20 years following Anna's death. My Great Grandfather Peter H and his sibling were parcelled to KS to be raised by other Meno families.
I am curious as to the twenty years John spent in Chicago, and the events surrounding his death.

If you are new to research you begin with what you know, ie your parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles write or imput this infomation and then work you way backwards towards the folks who may be you immigrant ancestors from "across the water" talk to anyone in the family who will give you hints as to where your family lived before your present location. I always take a small tape recorder along and ask permission to tape so I don't have to write everything down or try to remember what was said.
Good Luck

I have just completed a two week, genealogical tour of Germany. I traveled to Diemtigen which is in the Simmental (valley of the Simme river) along with other small villages of Darstetten, Wimmis, and Weissenberg/Erlenbach. With the help of German cousins, we visited a church in Wimmis with a Stucki coat of arms in the church window. There are still dozens of Stucki's listed in the phone book for the valley.

My ancestors came from Diemtigen/Darstetten in the early 1700s to Kleinbundenbach, Bavaria (now Germany) and then in the mid 1800s at least seven members of the family immigrated to Crawford and Seneca counties, OHio, USA.

The name in Switzerland is spelled Stucki, in Germany is spelled Stucky, and in the USA is spelled both Stucky and Stuckey.

Will share more info if interested.

I've found more Stucky's in the area of OH that he moved to after MN. the LeFevre-stucky conncetion is very short - its my wife's family.

Very interesting. No Benedict in my fathers line that I'm aware of. All of my grandfathers brothers stayed in Minnesota. My great grandfather Casper Stucky had brothers, however we don't know where they migrated to. Casper came from Berne, Switzerland and lived in Berne, Minnesota. My grandfather John Godfrey Stucky lived in Mantorville, Dodge County, Minnesota. He trained teams for harness and raised Morrocan paint horses and show ponies which he took to horse shows throughout the state. He traveled a lot between Minnesota and California and was the trainer for the lilliputian ponies discovered at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Grama Ella Holtorf Stucky and grampa had a dairy in Mantorville as well at the old home place. Great cheese. The barn on the property had been the stagecoach stop. My father Marvin Godfrey Stucky has passed on but his sister Florence Reeves still lives in Mantorville. She is the authority on the history of the Stuckys and could be contacted if you'd like to find out more. I'm 4th generation and only have the old photos. Typical Swiss features - pontiac type nose, dark hair. If you check the Ellis Island records you'll see when my great grandfather Casper went back to Switzerland looking for a new wife and another trip when he went and brought the new wife back. I live in Arizona and have several Lefeve friends here and in Colorado. Thanks for the info. How are Stuckys connected to Lefeve? Also my father had a root beer stand (A&W type but better root beer) in Kasson. It was called Kasson Drive In but the locals all called it Stucky's.

I just found out that the Stucky's I am starting to research have a Minnasota connection. Here is what I have thus far. Benedict Stucky (b about 1824 Switz) and wife Mary (Schneider) Stucky (b about 1836 Germany) were in MN from before 1860 to about 1863-67 when they moved to Tuscarawas Co., OH. There are other Stucky's in that county and I was unaware of the MN link or even what county (not listed on the 1880 census I have from OH). Does Benedict have any connection to your family?

New to Board; Requesting Help and Information

Hello! My name is Paul Stucky and I live outside of Kansas City in Leawood. I am 18 and, of late, have been very interested in learning about my family history. I've talked to my grandparents and really all they new was that a Christian Stucky was the first of our family to come over to the US. In searching, I have found quite a few Christian Stuckys and have seen that name metioned on this board. I'm sorry to say though, that I really don't know when Christian cam over, so I don't know how to narrow my search. What are some of the first steps I should take in tracing my family history back to Christian, and even beyond? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Oh, here is another thing I found interesting. I saw a post about a Johann and Anna (Roth) Stucky. My mother's maiden name is Roth, as well. Please let me know if you find anything interesting, or if you need any information from me. Thank you.
