I have an original 4”x6” photograph in a 6”x8” frame, of “Albert Hedges Studebaker”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Springfield (Clark Co.) OH, and he looks to be about 60 years old.

I found Albert Hedges Studebaker in a U.S. Passport application dated 9 Jun 1880. He was age 27, birthdate of 22 Feb 1853 in Urbana, OH. In the 1870 census for Springfield (Clark Co.) OH, I found Albert H. Studebaker, age 17, living with parents Albert and Elizabeth Studebaker.

I am actually researching the family of Angelina Belt and Thomas Douglass of Kosciusko County, Indiana. It seems that after the death of Angelina, Thomas remarried to a Sarah Swyhart on 18 September 1852 in Fulton County, IN. And from my recent research I guess (because I have no concrete proof yet) that the widow Elizabeth Douglass to be his mother (she was born 1797 in PA). Elizabeth remarries to Daniel Underhill on 24 August 1840 in Kosciusko County, but I believe they must have divorced. By 1850 she is living as Underhill with her daughter Eliza Ann and her husband William Williams (a lawyer and later a Representative for the State of Indiana) along with another daughter Lucinda Douglass. Daniel Underhill seems to have married 2 more times (for a total of 4 marriages) and moves to Kansas.

Back to Thomas Douglass, born abt. 1822 in Ohio. I believe from his first marriage to ASngelina they had a son JOhn who appears in the 1860 Census with him. Angelina has died before 1848, as she is listed as deceased in her father's will (Aquila Belt), but has heirs. It looks as though John was born around 1847. Then when Thomas remarries to Sarah they have the following children: Anna A.; James H.; Schuyler; William; Minnie E.; and Charles. I believe that both Thomas and Sarah are deceased before the 1900 IN Census as I can no longer find them.

I have a Joseph Studebaker married to Jemima Tipton.

Joseph Studebaker b. 26 Jun 1828 in Bedford Co, PA; d. 19 Nov 1896 in Kent, Stephenson Co, IL; m. 6 Jan 1847 in Bedford Co, PA. His parents are Jacob Studebaker and Catherine Puterbaugh. He married Jemima Tipton b. 24 Mar 1824 in Somerset Co, PA; 5 Apr 1878 in IL. Her parents are Noah Tipton and Elizabeth Wagaman. Their children were: Ephraim (b. abt 1848), Elijah (b. abt 1849), Noah (b. abt 1851) and Jacob (b. abt 1862). That is all I have on them.

Paul E. Studebaker, 68, Kokomo, formerly of Peru, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.
Born in Peru to Benjamin and Edith Poor Studebaker, he married Elizabeth “Libby” McCord Young Nov. 7, 1990, in Tennessee. She survives.
Mr. Studebaker retired in 1999 after 48 years as sexton of Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star 334, Converse, past master of Peru-Miami Lodge 67 Free & Accepted Masons, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, both of Peru, and Peru Maennerchor.
Surviving with his wife, at home, are four sons, Paul and wife Linda, Ronald and wife Lisa, all of Akron, Steven, Winona Lake, Donald and wife Lori, Warsaw; four stepchildren, Donna Crawford and husband Robert, Sonja Bray and husband Dan, all of Kokomo, Vicki Dewhirst, Indianapolis, Cindy Matthews and husband Rick, Flower Mountain, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Jason, Jordan, Preston, Leslie and Tara Studebaker; 11 stepgrandchildren, Sarah and Benji Crawford, Heather Bagwell, Brandon and Josh Goodman, Elizabeth and Rachel Dewhirst, Misty Dunbar, Kelsey and Abby Matthews and Hopelen Sampson.

He was born May 15, 1918 in New Carlisle, the son of Benjamin & Nellie (Teach) Studebaker. He received his BA degree from Manchester in North Manchester, Indiana and his MA degree of Columbia Teachers College in New York. Art taught in the Houston Ohio & Port Clinton Ohio School Systems, he served with the US Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater during WW II, after WW II he worked as a CPA with the ….

There you will find a brief history, a letter written by Clemens and Peder (Clement and Peter), two of the original three immigrants, and a "General Store" featuring various items, including the three volumns. The books list the decendents of Clement, Peter, and Heinrich, and other infromation about the family. They also publish a quarterly newsletter, have reunions throughout the US, and a big one in Tipp City, Ohio. Why anyone would spend time researching the Studebakers is beyond me, as it has all been done. However, they are still looking for some "lost" cousins and any information to update their files.

Hi Jennifer, I am very interested in this site as my husband Wolfgang's fathers name is Hans Stoertebecker. His father is Johannes Stoertebecker. Hans came to Australia from Germany and the correct spelling as said by my father-in-law is Stortebeker. I am trying to do their family tree and any information would be great. After marriage in fall of 1809, they moved to OH, first settling in Montgomery Co. They moved in 1811 to Miami Co. and purchased Feb. 24, 1813, land from the General Land Office which became their home. David built a fine brick house, where he lived the rest of his life. It was still standing in 1957. They were German Baptists. Photos of both and more info in Studebaker Family in America 1836-1976.

My George W. Studebaker has the same birthdate (2 Mar 1818 in PA) and same death date (22 Jul 1905). I think George died in Fredonia, KS.

However, I have him marrying Barbara Detrick on 25 Jan 1838 in Montgomery Co., Ohio. Barbara was born 8 May 1819; died 17 Jan 1848 in Delaware County, Indiana.

I posted a message that you can read elsewhere but we are related through Adam Pisor (1780) and Suzanna Studebaker (1776. I assume that they were married in the US probably in Pennsylvania since an decendant Frank Jordan Pisor (medical doctor) emmigrated to California late 1800's to Fresno, CA. A cousin found a reciprical approval to practice medicine in CA.

BETTER HAVE HIRED A HACK.

For calling the ambulance out on a stormy night, May
STUDEBAKER was fined $10 in police court yesterday
morning. On Friday night she had her friends telephone
to the police that she had attempted suicide. When the
police surgeon arrived, it was found there was nothing
wrong with her except that she had been drinking. It
was found by looking over the surgeons' record that she
had brought the ambulance out once before on a "fake"
suicide call. Judge Brady thought $5 for each call would
be about right as a recompense.

I was doing some research in the census records of Montgomery County, Dayton, Ohio and others, and I came across LOTS of
Studebakers. The Junior High that my daughters attend is named
after Robert H. Studebaker (Studebaker Middle School) here in Montgomery County, Ohio.
I will post any of the Census data I find for anyone that wants it.

Looking for parents of Margaret Studebaker born 1898 in Frederick Co., MD. She married Lewis Brightwell, 1887-1963. Children were: Helen, born 1917; Ruth, born 1921 (married Francis Jerome Esworthy, Jr.); Charles, born 1926; and Hazel, born 1927.

Skip I have a Mary Polly Studebaker who was born in 1801. She was married to John H Fitzhugh I have no date for his birth, she had 14 siblings her Parents where Jacob Studebaker and Salome Grable does this help I have more on siblings if this is the right polly
