I am a direct descendant of John Sturdivant and Sarah Hallom Woodward (1). John is in the VA history books since he was involved in Bacon's Rebellion 1676. I have worked in the Swem Library at College of Wm and Mary and on line at the library and the VA archives.
I you have found out you lineage then you know John is a very common name in the Sturdivant, Studyvin, etc. spellings also. My great grandfather John Studyvin was b. 1834 in Oh and died 1904 in Cass county MO. I have all of the records on him and my g grandmother too.
My gggf is Stephen Studyvin & he was b. ca 1799 in VA. I know about him and some of his siblings but I believe his father was John Sturdivan but I do not know his wife's name.
Stephen's wife is Asenth Pearson. Her family was Quaker and she was shunned because Stephen was not Quaker. The Sturdivants and Quaker's and Pearsons & Mills & Stanley families all traveled together.
My grandson is named Stephen William Warren. He carries the first names of 3 of his grandfathers names.
I want to hear more about the Sturdivant family reunion in July. I live in the SW corner of MO but Ill. is only about a 6-8 hour drive. I will plan to go.
Is there a family association? Have you done a DNA test?
I want to but I would have to convince my brother to do it or a male cousin and they are all hard headed.
I look forward to hearing from you.
