She is listed in Connecticut Farms as Kerzia Sturgis.
Your Nathaniel Sturges and my Joseph Sturges are both children of Ebenezer and Keziah Bonnell (this is how her name is spelled in her fathers will). I am guessing she is buried with her family as her father is listed in the same area of the cemetery -and as I have never been able to find out where Ebenezer is buried. Joseph Sturges and most of his children migrated to Central New York in the early 1800's (they were deeded property in 1806 but I know they weren't in the area before 1820 and then they came one family section at a time over the next 15 or so years. The last of Joseph's children to move to NY was his son David (1833-ish)whom is where my line decends from.
So in answer to your question your line is apart of the same one in this thread.
Joseph had a son William Sturges who is the father of Arsenath ( so Ebenezer would have been her great grandfather).
Tammy

Is Keziah Bonnell buried at Connecticut Farms Cemetery in Union, NJ with her Bonnell family?

...

I have been looking for sources for this part of my family tree and was wondering were I could find it since I am not 100% sure I have acurate information.

What I know for a fact is that my 3xgt grandmother was Phebe Sturgis (18 Feb 1848 - abt 1886) She was born in Mine Brooks (Part of Bernards Township) in Somerset County, NJ and she died in NJ. She married Silas Blazier (1843 - 1887) born and died in NJ. They had 10 children all born in Warren, NJ.

What I'm sure about...

I have Phebe's parents as Joseph James Sturgis (11 Sep 1815 - 16 Jan 1896) born and died in Mine Brook, NJ. He married Mary Mullen (b 1 Nov 1817 in NJ) abt 1831 in NJ. I am not sure if she is there child. I know her mother's name is definately Mary.

I have Joseph James Sturgis' parents as Joseph Bonnell Sturgis (4 Sep 1770 - Nov 1850) he died in Somerset county, NJ. He married Rachel Reed on 16 Nov 1806 in Basking Ridge, NJ.

Joseph Bonnell Sturis' parent: Nathaniel Sturgis (abt 1742 - 24 Jan 1816). He was married to Phebe Burnet (7 Jun 1744 - 18 Dec 1814).

Nathaniel Sturgis' Parents: Ebenezer Sturgis (abt 1703 - abt 1776) married Kezia Bonnell (abt 1710 - 18 Aug 1759) around 1730 in Elizabethtown, NJ. She was born and died in Elizabethtown, NJ.

Is my family apart of the same Sturgis family in this thread? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Annieks,
Sorry other Sturgis's this isn't about Sturgis, pardon the borrowed space. Annie - Could you contact me about Cynthia Powell Roberts [Albert DeWalton Roberts] (b: abt 17 Mar 1868, daughter of George F. C. Powell). The connection service didn't seem to go thru, so I'm hoping this board post will alert you. George F. C. Powell had some association with or relation to my wife's great great great grandmother Eliza Fulton (possibly a son from a previous marriage or a nephew). They were all early oil people in Titusville. We have been trying to find Powell descendents who might know what the Fulton's and the Powell's have in common. We have a Web site page that talks about Eliza and the Powell's. http://www.fultonlockefamily.org/eliza_fulton.html

Thanks.
- Dean Oberg (ancestry: deanoberg1)
email: fulton1894@aol.com
I'm looking for the burial sites for members of this Civil War unit. In 1920, it appears he is still alive, living in Brown County, Kansas. It appears he was originally from (West) Virginia. Most members of this unit enlisted in NE Kansas. In 1880, he is living in Doniphan County. Any help appreciated.

Bob, I can't help with your direct question and don't have either of the two names in my extensive Sturgis (eastern shore) data base. I do, however, have a couple of Cluff's in the database that may make a tie father back in time:
John Cluff who marries Sally Sturgis, daughter of Joshua Sturgis and Joanna Guy. Sally was born about 1791.
And, Robert Cluff, who married Joanna Guy who was born about 1802. Joana was the daughter of Major Guy and an unknown. Feel free to contact me directly if I can help further at jacktar@mindspring.com
Frank Courtney
Nice to hear of a Sturgis from Rock Hill who would also be a distant cousin of mine. That line is descended from Daniel Sturgis (1731-1788) and his wife Jane Bratton (1727 - 1801) who migrated to the Rock Hill area from Maryland in the late 1700s. Daniel patented the ferry across the Catawba River in 1786. If you would like additional information, please contact me directly at jacktar@mindspring.com. Frank Courtney

Mary L Sturgis DeBruler

My grandmother told me that her grandmother Mary L DeBruler's maiden name was Lealliwall. Mary L claimed that she was Native American. I've found several news articles on Ancestry that say she was a Sturgis. Her death notice said that she had two living brothers, Harry and Albert Sturgis. She also had two living half-brothers at the time, James and Robert Stamm. I don't know why she told my grandmother she was Native American and her maiden name was Lealliwall and now I'm thourougly confused! Anyway here is all that know about her.

Born - 1869 in OH
Died - 1949 in Mount Auborn, IN

She married 3 men that I know of.

Phillips
Henry/Harry Bunce - 16 Oct 1900 in Wayne county, IN
Thomas Estelle DeBruler - 24 July 1906 in Wayne County, IN

Children

Goldie Kirk/Cook - I don't know if her father was Phillips or Bunce
Sylvia Mae Phillips Little - b. 27 August 1893 in Indiana and died in 1956

Her middle name was Lee. Maybe that's where Lealliwal came from. Also went by Allie. Anyone ever heard of her?

Thank you!
Caitlin

Samuel H. Sturgis, b. MA @1848, reporter for Boston Herald, m. Helen L. Fritz

Good Day,

Was wondering if ANYONE had any information on THIS Samuel Sturgis, after he married Helen? I found that he died in Somerville, MA in 1896, that his wife was related to the FRITZ family in Abington, MA around the turn of the century (1900). I found Samuel residing with his parents in Winthrop/East Boston, in 1850 and 1860 US Census records. He was son of Charles R. Sturgis (who worked in the Customs House), and his wife, Mary Jane. They also had a daughter (sister of Samuel's) named Sarah N. Sturgis, who was b. @1853 in MA.

I have more details on the FRITZ connection/lines, but was trying to figure out why Samuel can't be found in 1870 and 1880 census records? Might he have been a foreign correspondent, and taken Helen with him, abroad? I've contacted the Boston Herald, asking if THEY might have any information in their files. He was, apparently, a reporter just after (or even towards the end of) the Civil War.

His wife, Helen, was born in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, and is most likely a daughter of Captain Joseph FRITZ, who removed with family to Boston around 1880, while Helen had come to the area in 1870. His sons, Charles and Burpee FRITZ were founders of the Bay State Ice Cream Co, which was a flourishing entity in New England from about 1910 to 1964 or 1965, when it was broken up for sale, with creameries in the Boston area, Chelsea, VT, and Laconia, NH at one time.

Any help/suggestions/hard facts on Samuel's life after 1860 would be most welcomed.

Cheers,

Jared
Ebenezer ( Josephs father) is listed as being in Elizabethtown. I also have them in Township of Union, and two of the girls were married in Bergan, which is right next to both places. Also there is a genealogy of Debra Barlow and I think John Sturgis online, (I got a similar copy from our county historians office) showing Ebenezer being their grandson and it states he moved to Elizabethtown, NJ, which is near where his first wife ( Keziah Bonnell is buried).
Tammy

Actually David is in my direct line. His son John S. is my great great grandfather. He also is buried in Leland cemetary. He moved up from NJ sometime between 1824 and 1834. Have conflicting info on the actual date. However his brother in-law Hugh Ludlum (married Elizabeth Sturgis in 1808, NJ) deeded him property in the town of cato in 1816. He had two wifes, one of which I cant find buried anywhere, she may be in NJ. Her name was Jane Post. Mother of William D., Rachel and Hannah. His second wife, was Susan Woolworth - she was the mother of John S., Joseph, David and Edward. Of those four only John S. and Edward lived to adulthood, they also are in Leland Cemetary.

Arsenath Sturgis was the Daughter of William Sturgis(Son of Joseph & Eunice) and Martha Carrow. William was Jothams Brother. Jeremiah was Jothams son. Sooo Arsenath and Jeremiah were cousins. Jotham willed his property to Jeremiah and later Jeremiah and his wife Mary transferred the property via deed filed in Cayuga county to John S. Sturgis(who is grandson of Joseph & Eunice via a third son David). John S. Sturgis is my GG Grandfather. There are wills and deeds filed in Cayuga County showing this chain of events.

Tammy

Also Arsenath is buried in the Smith Road Cemetery in the Town of Cato
