Sturmans of Kings Langley, Hertfordshire
Thomas Sturman (1760 - 1833) worked as a shoemaker and is apparently mentioned in the "History of Kings Langley" as having supplied shoes to the workhouse in June 1815 to the value of 15 shillings.Thomas married Sarah Underwood (1765 - 1834) in St Albans Abbey in April 1788. She was his second wife. They had a son, George , born in 1800 and I believe he was married to Loiusa Langley (1800 - 1836) at Bushey in January 1822. Loiusa died in April 1836 and George remarried at St Peters Church, St Albans in June 1837. George was also a shoemaker and leather worker but was recorded as innkeeper at the Red Lion, Waterside between 1860 and 1864.
George and his second wife, Phoebe Bail, had one son that I know about, Joseph (1838 - 1905) Joseph was a labourer at John Dickinsons Paper Mill in Kings Langley. Joseph and Mary Ann Crawley(born in 1841) were married at Kings Langley All Saints by Rev Henry Hodges in February 1861. They lived in one of Dickinson's tied cottages, 11 Home Park Cottages. Joseph and Mary had a son, Noah (1862 - 1929). He also worked at Dickinsons Home Park Mill and was employed as a Paper Stainer, later a Foreman. He completed 51 years service there.
Noah married Maria Ann Cross (1859 - 1937). She was the daughter of Uriah and Jane Cross of Ely, Cambridgeshire. They lived at 9 Home Park Cottages and had 6 children, one of whom was my grandfather.
This research was done by a distant relative but I'd love to know if anyone else has a connection here or can shed any light on who Thomas' parents were?
