Hello Helen
If your Grandfather Walter Henry Stutter was born in 1880 in St Martin in the Fields, London son of Arthur Mark & Annie Martha Stutter I can probably give you your genealogy back to about 1575

I think there might be a tenuous connection here as the name Walter Henry appears often in my family tree. My side were from London but moved to Scotland due to my grandfather (Walter Henry) having too many illegitimate children. His father made him move North with his new wife, my grandmother. I'm sure the connection is out there somewhere. It is suh an unusual name we have to be related in some way. Thanks for the information, kind regards Helen

I have Stutters in my family that came from the UK. They were located in the Almondsbury, Gloucestershire area. below are the Stutters I have found so far. Some are from birth, Marriage and Death certificates. Quite a few come from tracing these people in the IGI and English Census.
My Grandmother was Annette Stutter who married Alfred John Hobbs here in New Jersey. Let me know if you think there are any connections to your Stutters.

Mike Groome

John Stutters - the first Stutter I can find.
Simon Stutter	1826 - 1886
Charles Stutter	1858 -
Simon Charles Stutter	1893 - 1893
Thomas Charles Stutter	1894 -
Arthur William Stutter	1895 - 1977
Simon Charles Stutter	1897 - 1953
Henry Charles Stutter	1898 -
Elizabeth Mary Stutter	1900 -
Lily Stutter	1906 -
Rose Stutter	1906 -
George Stutter	1860 - 1905
Violet May Stutter
Frank Stutter	1884 -
Ethel May Stutter	1888 -
Virtue Helen Stutter	1890 - 1969
Jeanette Stutter	1892 - 1894
Kate Mary Stutter	1892 - 1894
Henry Charles Stutter	1894 -
Annette Stutter	1895 - 1972
Sidney George Stutter	1897 - 1974
Ellen Hannah Stutter	1899 - 1900
Walter Henry Stutter	1901 - 1903
Mary Ann Stutter	1862 -
Sarah Jane Stutter	1864 -
Emily Stutter	1867 -
Elizabeth Stutter	1869 -
Virtue Stutter	1872 -
I too am a member of the Stutters family. I have also heard I had a grandmother that was an Indian Princess in Oklahoma. I haven't found the facts to back it up though. My grandfather's name is Clyde Stutters, there are not very many Stutters located in North America. Do you have any of the names of you Stutters ancestors?

Lisa Stutters Harrison

The Stutters.

My surname is probably from the same source as Stutter that you're looking for. It is derived from a Swiss-German word "stude" which is a low growing shrub over there. Adding the r to it gives the meaning "of the bush" and there are many ways that it has been spelled and these are two of them. I lucked out and found a couple of websites on the Internet that have traced my family back to Alsace, France to 1591 and possibly further back to Switzerland. If you find a website about the Studer Family by Gina, she does a much better job of explaining it than I can in one article "The Name Studer".
