Is anyone doing research on the Suarez family in Corozal, Puerto Rico? Please E-mail me if you are. Thank you..
-----------------
As a student several years ago, we had to research and do a paper on our family names. I discovered that Suarez is a patronomic name (son of Suero) found in Asturias in Northwest Spain. It is also the name of a village located near Oviedo. The name was a latin modification of the German word 'suero' or 'sug-hari-whey' which means blood, race or family particularly as belonging to the nobility.
The story goes on as to the Germanic influence in Spain and about the tribe called the Suevis that populated Galicia in the north near where the name originated. By the way, we're talking about the 400's A.D. If anyone is interested I'd be happy to share the rest of the history with you.
Good luck to everyone with your search.
