Abigail Sugar

I have an Abigail Sugar that married Edward Jones.

Abigail's parents are John Sugar and Elizabeth Swann.

This is where things get tricky.

Elizabeth Swann's parents are supposedly at Mathew Swann and Mary Harris.

However there are conflicting accounts as to who did or did not have children I am just completely lost.

Can anyone help clarify this bit of the tree?

Does anyone out there know this name?She is soooooo hard to track down! What I have gathered so far: Married to Floyd Elmer Taylor, lived 1939-1973 (died in car accident). That, and the names of her children and she lived in the Contra Costa/Alameda area (CA). She is my grandmother and this is the only info I have!
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated!

My husband's grandmother was from Italy and she "Americanized" her name from Katarina Zuccaro to Catherine Sugar. She had a sister Odigitria b. about 1908 in Piana de Greci, Sicily. They arrive in the US via Palermo, Sicily, Italy on the ship San Giovanni Dec 3, 1910
Other relatives had arrived previously and changed their name to Sugar. If you think there may be any connection send me your email address and I'll send you my info.

My Great Grandfather's name was also Giuseppe Zuccaro, although I believe he was born prior to 1875. He immigrated from Sicily to Columbus, Ohio. My Grandfather's name was Joseph Anthony Sugar.

My husband's family has a George Sugar who lived in the Los Angeles Area! His mother's mother was shown as Catherine Sugar when she died, but her arrival paperwork shows her as Caterina Zuccaro. Contact me privately if you think there is a link.

The photo does not match the george sugar i remember, my Grandfather had the last name of sugar in his family also lived in los angeles aera.

Nope. I don't know anything else about him - only that his picture was in a box with my ancestor's pictures. So I just wondered if he was related or if he was just a friend or neighbor of theirs?

This George Sugar could have been from California. I just don't know. Most of my ancestors ended up in the Western states such as Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Montana.

the Wednesbury are of the midlands in England.

Despite checks uner all variants of the name ....no luck !!

My SVOREN's are from an area in Slovakia called Sumiac. My grandmother's name was Borbala Loucia Svoren (b 14 Apr 1888) and her parents names were Stefan Svoren & Marii Fedor.

She had a sister named Mary.

Grandma married Jan (Sugar) Svonavec on 27 Nov 1905 in Sumiac. They both came to the United States in 1909 & 1910.

The town Grandpa was from was Muranska Zdychava.

I have not been able at this point to find out much for information on the surname Svoren. Other Svoren's I have found on the internet appear to be from Scandinavian areas.

As far as I know, there are no Stern's in my line. I know that the name of the town where my grandparents were from was changed by the Austrian-Hungarian occupation to Kakasalja at the time of their immigration.

Sorry I did not answer sooner but we have been on vacation.

This may be really far reaching but it has come to our attention that our Abraham Stern's name could have been Svoren or Svorin & wondered if there is a connection? Abraham born 1848 to Herman Stern in Germany although Herman was from Romania. Does any of this sound feasible?

I am researching a Sugar family from Italy. George Sugar married Frances Locasico Child: Catherine Sugar b 15 Aug 1896 Piana Dei Greci, Sicily, Italy d 26 Dec 1972 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA She married George Guidera in 1915, they lived in Rockport, IL. He died abt 1922 and she then married Vito Masi also of Piana Dei Greci, Sicily, Italy.
I have no dates of immigration. I always thought the name Sugar was a translation! :) Now I have two more names to research!

I have just learned from a genealogist in Slovakia that my grandfather's real surname is SUGAR. Our family has gone by the last name of SVONAVEC for years.

My grandfather's name was John Andrew Sugar Svonavec and he was born on 11 Feb 1883 in Muranska Zdychava, Slovakia. His father was Martinus Sugar & his mother was Catharina Antoni.

Martinus Sugar Svonavec (b 20 Sep 1828) was the son of Martinus Sugar & Maria Sziman.

No one seems to know why the surname of Svonavec was taken. It seems odd but documents have been found showing Sugar-Svonavec.

Looking for any information on the Sugar family from Muranska Zdychava, Slovakia.

I'm trying to get information on Jennie Zuckerman. She was born in Basarabia and died in NY. She had 4 siblings: Rose (a well known seamstress), Ester, Freida, and Frank. I think all came to the US. Jennie came around 1907. Her mother's maden name was Shmuniak (sp). Don't know her father's name. She married Isidor Olkinetzky in NY and had 3 boys: Nathan Olgin, Ruben Olkin, and Sam Olkinetzky. Looking for relatives of Jacob Cukier who originally was from Austria, then lived in Warsaw, Poland, Minsk and then in Dvinsk. Born about 1845-1850 Had daughters Annie and Sarah by first wife. I believe her name was Esther. Esther died very young in her 40s and Jacob remarried. Had three children by 2nd wife: Bertha, Samual and Alice (Or Ella). He died about 1912 and is buried in Warsaw.

My mother is from Tarchin, her maiden name is Kaufman.
I have never heard of anyone else from the same town as it was very small. Does Kaufman ring a bell with anyone in your family?

A grave headstone with the following inscription was found in Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands:
"Sacred to the memory of Nathan Sugar, a native of West Bradford Township, Chester County, State of Pennsylvania U.S. of North America, who departed this life February 8th 1842 in the 26th year of his age."
Anyone have a connection? Anyone know how or why he was in the Danish West Indies?

Am interested in locating the background of John C. Sugar born in Louisiana and made his home in Sacto Ca. in the l900"s. He died of the l918 Flu epedemic in Sacto. Ca.Married to Mary Lapiana, of Palermo Sicily, had 2 children Paul J. Sugar of Sacto. and Josephine Sugar (married name Oliveri) his widow Mary later married Mariano Nappi of Naples, Italy. I believe I am of the German Seger family though some tombstones in the family plot outside Garrettsville OH us the spelling Segar. Oh, on to Sugar: did you know Zucker is a German surname and means sugar? Maybe there is some connection. Good luck. I've just begun my search.

Looking for the family of Solomon Sugar, prob originally Zuker or Cukier. Born Poland (Warsaw?) circa 1842, one of six or seven children of Abraham and Nelly (nee Pargal).He married Adelaide (aka Fanny) Cohen a widow who had a daughter Annie (Hannah). Solomon and Adelaide had two children in Poland, Isadore and Rebecca, before coming to the UK in the early 1870's.There was still family left in Poland - may have owned a leather goods store in Warsaw. Is SUGAR related to SEGER?

Dear Friends,

In the last few years I've come across family members named SEGER, SEGAR, SEAGER, and SEGOR. I've traced my family back to Simsbury, CT abt 1625. I haven't been able to cross the ocean back to their homeland but I AM PRETTY SURE that they are English in origin.

We all know (or find out) that the name we were raised with has been altered for several reasons.

However, different spellings MAY indicate ethnic or geographic backgrounds.

I know a SEGER strain from Germany also exists in the USA.

Please share your experiences with me. Is SUGAR primarily of a certain background or are they like my name (SEGER) and just one of many variations?

I'm going to post this on several of the boards that sound sorta like "Seger".
