If anyone knows of Carl Suhr who lived in Chicago I would love background info on his family. He had one son, Robert. I had an uncle Ben Suhr married to Patsy and they had a daughter, Dorthey. Robert was my adoptive father, but I don't know much about his background except he graduated with honors from Northwestern University in Evanston, Il. Thank you!

Hello -

Paul & John are my 1st cousins and I just started researching our family tree. Henrich "Henry" is also my great-great grandfather. I have actually been getting some info from Sandra who posted this original message. Henry is also her great-great grandfather. I would appreciate any info you have on Henry. I know he lived in Webster, NY but I do not know if he was born here or came from Germany...for some reason my dad thought our family came from the town of Suhr in Switzerland? Any help would be great...if you already gave the info to Johnny or Paul, I can try to get it from them.

Thanks,
Gerald Suhr

Gloria: Just finished reading your thread with Eric about the photo album of the Suhrs in Pennsylvania. My grandfather was Frederick W. Suhr, b 1886. He had a sisters Mary and Edna, brother Oliver. His father's name was Charles F. Suhr, b 1856 in Delmar (Wellsboro). That is the extent of my history of the Suhr family. Don't know where Charles came from or who his parents were. Could he have been related to your Suhrs? Grandfather said they came from Berne,Switzerland, but I wasn't smart enough to get any details. "Too late we get too smart". Would like to hear from you. Do you live around Wellsboro? I remember the town very well from childhood and later visits. Glenda Webster

Michael,
So good to hear from you.....apparently, we are cousins.
My grandmother, Clara (Ramm) married Emil Hackbarth....she was the oldest of 11 children born to Edward and Ausgusta Ramm. My memory of Augusta is sort of vauge..l remember going with my grandmother to visit 'Gustie'....she was blind and in a nursing home. I was about 3 or 4. My grandmother said, "This is Clarence's daughter"....and Gustie gently put her hands on my face in an effort to feel what I looked like. I also remember going to great grandpa, Edward's house with my grandmother...she took homemake soup in a metal bucket. In the kitchen was a large black and chrome, wood burning stove. The living room furniture was all upholstered in black horses hair fabric...(used in that time)...it was not comfortable to sit on.
I will be most happy to charge whatever data I have. I also have an Ancestry pamphlet with all the Abraham family and their descendants as of 1930...on the front is a picture of Carl David and Caroline Renata (Ebert) Abraham. This pamphlet has all 7 children of Carl and Caroline....which I can scan and send you. Augusta's parents were Ferdinand Rudolph and Hermina Abraham. I only have a few pictures of the family...taken about 1940 during a birthday celebration at Martha Eblinlien's house...Martha was also my grandmother's sister. It will be easier to exchange data if you contact me directly.....
jmcooke@theriver.com
I was born in 1929, daughter of Clarence and Nellie (Gibbs) Hackbarth. I have lived in Tucson, Az. since 1988...was widowed in 1991.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Joan

This is a 'long shot', but my grandmother's sister, Teckla (Ramm), b: 1887 Chicago, married Charles Suhr....(they lived in Chicago). Teckla and my grandmother were the daughters of Edward and Augusta (Abraham) Ramm. I don't have anything on the Suhr family, but do have data on Ramms.
If this rings any bells, you can contact me directly...jmcooke@theriver.com

Your dad and my dad (Earl) are brothers. Our Aunt Helen (Miller) had a family tree before her passing, but I'm not sure what became of it. I think Aunt Janet (Suhr) has it. You may want to ask your dad if he has her number.

Some names: Mary Suhr Yahn, John Suhr, Louise Suhr, Emma Suhr Padgett, Mary Padgett Cherry. There are many more photos.

Heinrich Wilhelm Suhr was my great-great-grandfather. He was born in Segelhorst and came to the US and Iowa in about 1869 with his wife and 4 children. It appears that he was the only one of his siblings who came to the US but he apparently had nieces and nephews who came to Iowa later. Would love to correpond with anyone related to this family. Does anyone know why he was the only one to come to the US when he was the oldest son? Did the others end up in Iowa because he was there? Thanks.

Just came across your posting of Suhr family pictures. If you are still in possession of the photos, I would be interested in obtaining them (or copies). My great-grandmother was Nettie Suhr, daughter of William and Emogene Harding Suhr and grandaughter of John and Mary Sticklin Suhr. Nettie died of pneumonia from complications from influenza in 1919 in Wellsboro. Sometime afterwards, her other son Charlie died. My grandfather had only one picture of Charlie and a couple of his mother. Nettie's aunts and uncles were Mary, John, Emma, Charles, Louise, and Anna. Other names to the pictures might be Nettie's siblings: Eva, Jess F., harry, Midlred, William B., Herman, and Robert.
