Surnames: WEATHERINGTON, WETHERINGTON, SUITE, SUIT, SUITS, SUTE
I think I "may" have finally figured Ralph SUIT and Nancy WETHERINGTON out. I know he was in Grayson VA, but I just also found him as "SUTE" on the 1800 census for Granville CO NC and now this is really making sense. I think he did come from St. Mary's Co MD at some point. My ancestor was James SUIT who was probably born in the 1750's in St. Mary's and died in 1811 there. I do not know who his parents or wife were, but he lived next to people connected to WETHERINGTON and various similar spellings. On gen forum, there was a posting about Joseph WETHERINGTON's will from ST. Mary's and it mentions men named George DAVIS and Lawson DAVIS. Interstingly, they apparently lived next to my James SUIT in St. Mary's Co MD. I know that my James had sons named William B.SUIT and Samuel SUIT (I decend from Samuel.) Ralph and Nancy also had a son William Riley SUIT and a Samuel B. SUIT who was born about the same time approx as mine. Also in the 1790 census all of the other SUIT folks listed in St. Mary's with James seem to be the ones who were connected to the group that went in some point to Granville Co NC for religious reasons in the 1700's with HIGGS and SHEMWELL and some other families. Apparently some of thess folks did return to MD. Others stayed in NC. I just learned that Ralph SUTE (SUIT or SUITS) was in Granville Co in Hillsboro in the 1800 census as "SUTE." I defintely think he connects to Dent SUIT, James SUIT, etc of St. Mary's Co MD. Also, in the 1800 St.Mary's census there is an Ann WETHINTON (sic), then next is a George DAVIS (note--he is mentioned in the WETHERINGTON will on a genforum posting) and then a George DAVIS, Jr. then my James SUIT.
Then in the 1820 census, Samuel SUIT (my ancestor who is James' son) lives next door to Lawson DAVIS who is also mentioned in that Joseph WETHERINGTON will info. Because of this, I really do think that Ralph may be a brother of my James SUIT. All these names seem to connect back in St. Mary's early on. I also wondered in Ralph SUIT was named for Stephen RALPH who was in MD (Kent Co) as Ralph and many decendents named sons Stephen. (Just a thought).
